Keeping a vehicle deemed a total loss by an insurance company is usually a bad idea. 1. If you now have a salvage title, your vehicle is borderline worthless 2. If your vehicle has repairs , they will likely be more than the insurance settlement. Then you’re out of pocket 3. Most reputable companies won’t work on it. The ones that do are often shady. Example. Your car is worth 4000, you have estimated 3000 in damage. Insurance pays you 3000 as settlement and let’s you keep the car. When you bring for repairs, they take it apart, suddenly repairs now cost 5000, and you’re stuck with a shop holding your vehicle, in pieces, and you’ll be 2k out of pocket to get it back.
Case by case. Some of the stuff the deem a total loss is anything but. Sometimes Its worth the amount they knock off the settled amount other times it’s not. No cut and dry answer.
@@NobodyUR it’s deemed a total loss for a reason. That reason is financial. If a customer wants to take that risk, it’s on them. Sometimes it works out. Usually, no. What usually happens is the vehicle that is worth 5000 but has 4000 in damage, the customer will find a shop that says they can fix it for 2000. Then once the vehicle is disassembled, they “suddenly realize” it’ll be 6000 to repair. When the customer refuses, they demand payment for “the work they’ve done so far”, which includes 10+ labor hours of disassembly, admin fees, etc. then if the customer pays those fees, now they have a disassembled car they need to fix…. I do this for a living.
I have a car that has front end damage but is perfectly drivable just all cosmetic and has lots of years left on it most likely. it's not a gas guzzler and is valued at $1000 so I think i may be one of the exceptions. The longer I drive it the more money I save. I dont much about this stuff though

You forgot to mention to NEVER accept the first offer from the insurance company. If they feel your car is worth $5K, do your homework and collect examples of comparable vehicles selling for more in your area and present that data. If you are not at fault, the at fault driver's insurance company should pay what it costs to replace your vehicle with one of similar age, mileage, condition and options.
A tree branch fell on my truck and the repair shop priced the repairs so high the insurance company declared it a total loss even though my truck runs fine and only had a few dents and a broken windshield. The shop claimed it needed a whole new top and other things but it doesn't. My husband can fix it himself, but thought the insurance company would do it since we paid for it every month. Our truck is paid off in full. I feel that they were trying to hijack my truck !!! So they take it, fix it up and make money from it !!! I knew there was some kind of game to these insurance companies !!!!
A few years ago my car was deemed a "total loss" even though the damage was only cosmetic. The front and rear bumpers needed replacing, as well as the hood and trunk lid. The engine was replaced a year prior as well. My car runs great, there was no way I was letting insurance write off my car (which was fully paid off). I took my car back, did not send in my title (why would I, it's my car!) and took their settlement check to get my car fixed by a local shop. Everything that needed replacing was replaced and 3 years on, my little car still runs great. I even moved states and I've had no problems since. Don't let car insurance companies take your car!!

When people do let go of the car and insurance pays out the owner, what are the options for that person? Going and buying a new vehicle or financing a new vehicle?
Why not just tell everyone what a F-ing rip-off the insurance companys are. "They" Total out your vehicle and say it's ONLY worth some little cheap ass amount (that They pull out of some wholesale/ car Dealer book) Meanwhile the market value to go out and actually buy another one just like you had is 4 times the amount they want to give you. Good example.... 93 Dodge Cummins 4x4. Insurance says 2500 bucks The market says (if you can even find one) 12000 to 18000 IT'S BULL CRAP.

Well I work for an insurance company and i disagree. The 3 things that determine your car’s value is miles, options, and condition of the car. If you beat the sh;t out of your car, drive it 300,000 miles m, you’re not going to get a lot of money. Most people don’t know the value of their car. Also insurance is a business, every dollar we pay out on a car is coming from someone so don’t argue with people who are at fault about the value, the insurance company is about to triple your rates and get all that money back. (Even if you switch companies it won’t matter because we all share information and they are going to charge you a lot too).
