THANK YOU, ESSENTIAL WORKERS! The highways in LA are way more empty right now. So I figured that was the perfect spot for an essential workers tribute. I wanted to create some good news in a space that would usually be impossible to use as a canvas. Can I pull off a huge mural on a 4-lane highway? Will there be cops? Definitely watch past the cops part because it's worth it :)

Hey best pal-y! I’m your musician, comedian, internet buddy. I’m dedicated to giving you music & comedy & fitness awesomeness every Thursday. Thanks for joining me on my adventures and being a part of this band of outrageous friends I’ve got :)
- Ali
I'm for real about doing one-on-one video calls together, Pal-ys!!! Hit me up right now and I'll coordinate and text you back soon: 310-564-0799
You are the best ... you might have more fun doing something video-wise with the University of Memphis "Mighty Sound of the South" marching band during band camp. (my son will be a freshman there this fall). Message me via your Patreon if it seems cool.
The number doesn't work for me :( I'm not good at video calling but I just wanted to thank you for making UA-cam videos :)
Yeah I think texting only works for us and canada. You know your most hardcore fans are overseas.
Ok haven't finished video, but so far your project is awesome!
What a perfect time for my phone to complete break
She’s like a sim who’s like maxed all the skills, fitness, art, piano, guitar. The list goes on lol
For real like what can’t she do
lmaoo
A perfect description
She seems to be able to do anything she wants....just endless talent
Agreed
I don't feel clickbaited. You accomplished art.
when she was like "im not super human" I was like... yeah i dont believe you
Sometimes I make unauthorized changes to roads, like adding bike lanes. The key is to dress up like you are a Caltrans employee and set out cones. Helps if you have an ally standing there with a a clip board. Most cops won’t even notice you.
lol
Look like you belong and most people won't question it.
Ali, as a fellow creative, I appreciate you showing a video of a project that does *not * go according to plan. So many projects may fail, but the art truly is in the process of creating. Much love to you, pal-y.
Lesson for you..... when doing illegal graffiti... it needs to be quick!
And if it’s going to be big you need to get more people that would help you do some illegal art....
@@tangerinesunshine8824 time to hit up Banksy LOL
Fact. It was not illegal.
She was using chalk. There's case law saying she can legally draw on public land.
@@cluelessbeekeeping1322 I’m sure there will be a law about standing in a live carriageway
Ali, you should have worn a high vis vest, people let you get away with anything when you're wearing a high vis vest.
All you need is a clipboard, a white hard hat, and a reflective vest. For sure. Good call
"Yes hello officer. I'm Ali, from Corporate. Oh you didn't get the memo? Well that's unfortunate"
Me: *sees title of video*
Me: "this seems like a bad idea"
Me: *clicks on video*
Me all the frickin' time.
Seems like you could call any local hospital, speak to marketing and get permission to do this in a parking lot as big as you would want. they probably would even want the news to come out for the coverage. it’s such a cool story.
Watching you fail lets us off the hook to try things that might not work. Its easy to do simpler things to get to a known end result that are less interesting
Ah yeah! I'm glad you see it that way! I wanted to show that I'm not superhuman. (Essential workers are)
I loved this video.
@@alispagnola I know it's a bit late now, but when doing stuff like this in public, wear a hi-vis vest, a construction helmet and have a clipboard. A couple of road cones can also help for safety reasons.
It's a quite well explored phenomenon that construction workers are invisible. Well not literally, but most people ignore construction workers. I mean who in their right mind is going to fake doing public engineering work?
Keep up the public art. It makes a lot of people smile and right now we need every smile we can get.
Police officer: you can't be doing that
Ali: Ali. McNally. Look at my art. Bye!
Not a fail! That was a great idea and effort. Be proud of yourself, and drink more water. And for the love of god, buy a new tape measure, and maybe a modest toolkit for home lol. We love you =)
Dangerous, police, *and* a (cough) *successful* (cough) company sponsorship?! *a mood*
Shhhhh! My mom doesn't know what that site is and she's just happy I can make money with my art
Nothing wrong with a good Christian website like Adam and Eve. Glad your moral compass is pointing true North!
This art work definitely counts as "saving lives". I can't speak for everyone, but being isolated makes it hard to keep myself sane, so having such amazing people like you definitely helps this whole ordeal feel less terrible. ❤️
It was a lovely thought. I lovely idea, and all out great effort. The ONLY criticism I'd have is TRAFFIC CONES ! ! ! ! ! ! Hell, you're breaking the Highway Dpt law anyhow, ( most likely because you're covering the striped lines - even tho it may be with a quick removable paint - trust me, I deal with code enforcement stuff all day long on that, and I'd bet the powers that be wudda shut you down on that alone had you asked permission firstly ), SOOoooo. I'd say next time - about 10 - 18 inch high cones cud do the trick, and TRY to keep you a bit safer on your exploits! .. BUT, be that as it may, even your Sketch on the road was really cool. I thought too at first you wudda just done it free hand without the grid to begin with, as a Dash-N-Draw item, so Cheers for the LONG effort to lay a grid down first. You're one original and unique person. Your positivity is what is NEEDED in these nutzoid times. Never change, and THANK YOU for doing what you do, JUST BE SAFER !!!!! Hugz from one of your loyal viewers, SammyC ;)
What if... there was a way of projecting the sketch onto the ground like the Bat Signal? Just an idea. :)
Love the design. Maybe a local advertising company would put your art on one of their digital billboards? Doesn't hurt to ask around.
This is so cool!
I’m in New Zealand and I have been making little murals in front of my house for the essential workers and I think this is such a nice message and that the essential workers should get all the love 💕
Cops didn't think so
@@alispagnola Nooooo don’t think thatsttttt you are AMAZING 👍
@@alispagnola From the way they seemed in the vid ( taking the pics and such) I think they were more concerned for your safety (cuz that's their job) than not wanting you to complete your artwork.
Awww. You tried so hard!
The effort to make a successful mural is underappreciated. I know because I’ve painted them.
Thanks for the like, Ali Pal-y! 🧡🖤💖
I think you can still complete this task...forget the chalk outline and use stencils. You can prep safely and maybe, hopefully, you can complete it quickly. You might have to freehand the heros silhouettes, but I think it can be done.💪 Also, maybe orient it so oncoming traffic can see what it says...who knows, your positive message just might make someone's day. 👍🏼
*gets stopped by police for drawing in the middle of the highway* *makes a friend instead of a lawsuit* only ali. i love it
You absolutely are a superhero, and you're my hero. Being a 42 y.o. mom and a therapist working from home for months - your channels are my only source of positive, wholesome and fun outrageousness, and I'm thrilled to be a part of it (vicariously).
I love how you did it upside down too btw so when cars see it, it isn't right side up. Makes it more outrageous
I think its just for safety
The next time you try this, go at night when there's even less traffic, make sue you have lights and safety cones to re direct any traffic.
I have my fingers crossed that somebody from Universal sees this video somehow and reaches out to you. Or pretty much anywhere that is highly visible in LA.
You are what we call in my family " the right kind of crazy"! Love the content, keep up the awesome and outrageous videos!!
I absolutely love everything you do!
Hay Ali, I'm a relatively new pali all the way over in the UK. Just wanted to say i could see how upset and bummed you were at how the painting part went but that video was not a fail. Love your channel and your energy and commitment to producing creative projects.
ISTG Ali Spagnola is the most underrated youtuber ever! She does all this crazy and fun stuff that nobody even notices!
Omg I love your energy. Cheers, and awesome as always.
you tried, and took the results in stride. most people (myself included) are so paralyzed by the fear of failure that they don't try, so you know what? this is still a huge win
I am sooooo impressed with the passion and enjoyment you seam to have when you are working on a project, it's just FREEEEKING amazing. This is the reason I watch your vids. Stay safe...keep on keeping on....
Let's goo you're videos give me life 💯
This is why i follow you. You are wonderful and real in a fake world! Stay safe; we would HATE to lose you!!!!!!!!!!!
Failure only happens when we do nothing. You did not fail. You just achieved a different result than you originally planned. Your attempt was inspiring regardless of the final outcome. Thank you.
Bummer. Unfortunately there's all these rules and stuff...
That was awesome! I have a suggestion if you try it again. Maybe using a Banksy technique of stenciling. Its may reduce the need for grids and you can spray tempera paints if they are thin enough.
i love your videos they always make me want to go and try new things and be spontaneous
Yayyyyy be Outrageous
But...you didn't fail. You still brought notice to important people...you made a new friend. The only failure comes when we don't try. Thank You for your effort and your good heart.
All I have to say is... frogger irl🐸
Because.......
I appreciate al of your hard work
I don't care about the"clickbait"
Clickbait means looking for something that is not there. HOWEVER YOU MADE ART. And it is fabulous.
Ali I just wanted to say thank you , That your Mural is so inspirational because you said it best yourself “In this little sliver of Humanity’s History, I was able to do something impossible, and that’s representative of the essential workers out there.” Thank you for being so inspirational -from an “essential” (I work for starbucks) worker
This video proves that no good deed goes unpunished. People suck. You’re Awesome.
I mean if anyone wants to do clickbaits, copy her spirit. Its so amazing and pure
A few pieces of advice from a truck driver. Wear are reflective vest, put out some reflectors or safety triangles, have to face it so on coming traffic can see it LOL
Update: Talk to text is garbage for grammar and getting the words right.
love it Ali! don't be hard on yourself! it would be cool to see it finished though. id totally watch a redemption video where you either do it on a wall near a hospital or somewhere where essential workers would see it, or do it on paper and put it/hold it up outside a hospital. i keep seeing tiktoks with similar ideas and my cousins are nurses in NY. they really love that type of thing and it makes their day. side note, im an essential worker and if someone did this outside my job it would make my day too. hell you could make little flyers of that art and put them outside/ deliver them to lots of essential places, grocery stores, pharmacies, food places, hospitals ect.
That large of a project done in such a short period of time needs a template type process. Make a large template (in sections) then chalk the pavement using the templates
.
Wow! What an amazing idea! Yeah the mural is great but I mean the zoom call one on one hang outs with fans! What? Why haven’t people been doing that sooner? Great idea Ali
Even though so many things wasn't going right, you never gave up (even if the mural was not completed) You are amazing! I would have given up on the second day!
This was an unusually suspenseful episode. The suspense element is, “How much longer until Ali gets run over by a truck?”
I dont understand how you're able to play any instrument....able to draw/paint etc. You do it all! It's SO amazing and RARE. You're so lucky for having multiple talents like this...by far one of the most artistic UA-camrs/people I've ever seen! I wish I could just think of something in my head & make it come to life the way you do. 👏👏👏
what bugs me most is that it was facing the wrong way
Had to do that so my back wasn't facing the oncoming cars. Also the downhill was better to get a shot for my time lapse... Also it kind of bugged me too
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who realized this!!
This was actually my favorite video to date! You rock
Maybe high vis vest, traffic cones, and stencils just in one lane so you can get in and out quicker?
The first third of all your videos are spent saying how unmotivated I am to do what you are doing. Then... BAM! I’m pumped! This was pretty cool.
I know it can be a challenge to create something exciting to be proud of. You at least showed us that perseverance to complete it was a Herculean effort even though you failed at the task. But you tried! Be glad that you tried! A lot of us know that taking action can be hard but I am impressed by your tenacity. You did your best (and then some!).
Ali this was awesome even if you didn't succeed it is so cool you tried and you are totally a superhero in my books
There was no fail. The intention was sincere and genuine. Nice attempt, great work!
This isn't click bait! This is awesome! Amazing for giving it a go and trying!
Your mural may not have fully made it onto the highway but it did make it onto each of our hearts. Haha
Me: How can you use a chalk line without someone to hold the other end?
Ali: It’s rough with one person, but I’m just going to keep going.
Mad props, Ali!
I've been watching your videos continuously for 3 days now and I can't stop laughing. You're really awesome. please keep making such videos
I would just like to say...
HOW ARE YOU NOT FAMOUS YET????!!!!!
As I was watching this, my heart was breaking a bit for you cuz I really wanted this to be a success. But this is definitely still art. It’s art that supports the important people in our communities. I don’t feel clickbaited.
Ali, your courageous attempt for such a great cause offers further proof of the old adage that "life is about the journey, not the destination." Your journey is so positive and hopeful, thanks for being and sharing you!
I actually was upset that it couldn’t happen maybe you could try it again on like a public road maybe?
Thank you Ali. Love the work you do.Your skills in this video might be necessary in LA given current events.
Ali being Ali ... which is AWESOME.
It think it's totally awesome! Thank you!
You simply Rock as a human being. I pray you longevity and joy.
Such a cool video. Sorry you had to go through all the stress for it. Is there a way to make a big stencil of your design (or a few overlayed on each other) to get it done somewhere else?
Love you Ali. So talented and so cool at the same time.
How long will it take for you to get a permit? Also maybe you can do based on historical archiving (the time we are in now). It is also I think the wrong way. As a road distraction, it would be less so if on coming traffic would see it in the correct orientation. Like the HIGH way pavement signs. Might have someone who can help. No promises.
That was totally click bait. And I love it. Not a fail. A true work of art.
I’ve seen maybe 10 of your videos and liked them quite a bit. I thought this was the best by far. Loved everything about it really. 👍🏼👍🏼
(Especially 7:55 😂)
Ali, you are awesome. Keep doing what you do. I love you, all the way from Texas.
You are an amazing human, Ali and I didn’t see this video until that thing you posted telling us to check it out but the message is clear and you are wildly interesting to watch!
Ali, if you still want to do the sketch you had planned and have essential workers see it, you could do a banner drop.
If you have the time, energy and budget your banner could even be much larger than 2 car lanes.
Here is a challenge for you, what is the biggest piece of art you can make?
its the thought that counts! Way to go Pally!!!!! #AliDoesItAgain \m/
Wasn't at all a clickbaitt. Wink wink. Just stay POSITIVE. LOVE THE HUSTLE..
Fun, thanks. Failures, the plural noun. (Fail is a verb.) I suspect that if you went to the area Caltrans maintenance facility dressed in your usual attire, you might’ve been able to have them close the lane and the adjacent one with cones for a day.
"What’s up Best Pal-y McNally? I’m Ali." XD
I started watching Ali for about three four months now and I can’t get enough of her she’s so entertaining loll I would love to work on a project with her
I clicked and was NOT disappointed! Effort and a legit try also counts! You are SOoOoOoO COOOOOOL ALI WE LOVE YOU! Thank you for all your AWESOME videos!😃💖❤🧡💛💚💙💜😘😘😘
Omg... Click bait.... I love it 😍 your awesome Ali, never stop being you...
I love that you shared this "fail" video. There is still a story and ultimately that's what you're doing, sharing stories.
I love the framing and awareness of the UA-cam video as the artwork. Like just from an art perspective. That’s very cool.
Awesome stuff! But next time use Orange cones to mark off and divert traffic...
I think you are a truly amazing person, keep being 100% you!
If you would have named this video anything else BUT a question, it would've been click-bait. You asked a question, you attempted a thing, and we found out that the answer was almost...
You're golden, Pony Boy
I love your positive energy!
keep being you and creating awesome content Ali! love your positive attitude and creativity! stay safe and stay amazing.
Hahaha this was so funny and sad at the same time. Btw You are sooooo talented! I never new you could draw too! I watch your channel usually for music cover "if done by" videos. But you just seem to get more interesting and amazing as I watch more.
i've been watching your youtube channel for a while and i just found your tik tok and i was so excited about it because i had no clue you had one!!! i love youuuu
Awww yeahhhhhh!!!
Great idea, but you need a small crew to help. Another thumbs up video.
Ali! I love you and I’m crying! Your so humble and gracious. I love your videos. Thanks for spreading joy during a time that’s been really difficult for everyone in one way or another.
Jesus Ali you are nuts! But damn. Respect!
Thank you for being Awesome! 👍😍
A sponsor that makes you feel, uh, adult.(and I'll leave it at that).
