In the Shuichi mastermind AU, Shuichi would also be jealous of Kaede because her parents are very kind and supportive of her, unlike his parents

    • @victorcobane6644

Omg, imagine that universe's Shuichi, not only setting up Kaede's murder case and eventual execution because she poses a threat to him, but also, upon noticing that she's falling for the character he's playing, leading her on and making her fall for him, only to make the pain of dying hurt more, all because he's infinitely envious of her family life. And he finds a way to make her realize he's the mastermind seconds before she's executed, maybe with an reference only she'd understand, and she has to deal with feeling betrayed and stupid because the boy she fell for was just using her the entire time and is actually running the game she hates most, ugh, imagine the feels.
Admittedly, for that to work, you'd have to consider Shuichi/Kaede canon, but I do.

In a weird way, if Kaito was the Mastermind, and his execution remained pretty much the same as his canon one, it would make a great bookend - the final execution being the same as the very first one seen

He would serve better as a double-traitor for an AU mastermind like the mastermind thinks Kokichi is working for them (like Sakura in DR1) but really Kokichi is on his own side which is to end the games no matter what. He isn't aligned with the survivors but does help from the shadows, nor is he aligned with the mastermind but acts like he is in order to get close and gather all the evidence he would need to bring the game crumbling down.
I would say this Kokichi would be more self-preserving and whilst he would care for the others, they would be more then likely stepping stones/pawns for him to end the game since he could explain away any guilt over their deaths as 'they signed up for this, this is what they wanted' type thing as he would keep his memories.

I really liked the idea for Kaede. I think maybe another element that could be used for that scenario is that every new chapter can add a new in-game theme to the soundtrack. And then at the end of the game, it can be revealed that all the tunes the player was listening to/jamming out to/crying to were actually the pieces she was composing as she got further and further in the game.

12:49 Kaede’s mastermind execution could be called “The Requiem of Kaede Akamatsu” as “The Requiem” was the final song Mozart composed before his death, however he never finished it before he died, just like Kaede’s “masterpiece” from the killing game never coming to fruition after she was defeated. In fact, it’s fabled that Death himself commissioned Mozart to compose The Requiem

I'd like to believe in the alt universe where someone else was the mastermind, Tsumugi still cosplay as different Danganronpa characters but never talks herself. And in that universe, she's the most popular alt mastermind because "Wouldn't it be cool if every Danganronpa characters would be the mastermind?"

  • @SiblingsOfWar

Something interesting for Shuichi, what if he failed to get Kaede to kill in chapter 1 and someone else took the fall? Later chapters can be him frantically trying to get her to kill or killed. Then in chapter 5, when Kokichi and Kaito literally make it impossible for him to know who killed who, he's shocked when Kaede manages to solve the murder that he just gives up.
In the back of my mind, I do see Shuichi getting Tsumugi to work with him. And the reason why Kaede didn't kill was because Tsumugi left too much evidence behind that she killed Rantaro XD it shocked Kaede because she thought she did it all along, but Kirumi could have made enough connections and observations the two over looked (like there were two shot put balls taken instead of one, how Rantaro was holding a pad and knew from the blood splatter on his hand that it was overlooked, how she knew five minutes in the bathroom throws enough attention on Tsumugi being the culprit, and more that could convince Kaede it wasn't herself that killed Rantaro). Shuichi, while hiding his anger, goes along with it only for Kaede to cleverly throw Tsumugi under the bus (maybe figuring out that cospox is just a bluff).
The story can still use Kaede as the main protagonist, not knowing she's getting under Shuichi's skin. Maybe she can learn about Maki being the Ultimate Assassin second trial when the motive videos are distributed. Then Kokichi let's the secret out, pisses of Kaede who's about to rip him a new one...but everyone is too stunned with Maki's skill.
Back on the mastermind au, just imagine the sheer devastation on Kaede when she learns she fell in love with the mastermind of all people.

If suichi is gonna be the mastermind then kaito and kokichi need to survive and fake the death in the hanger for two reasons.
One, I just love the idea of Suichi be a clumsy af mastermind like kaede managing to pin tsumigi as the culprit by falling through the secret door or something and then survives throughout the rest of the game, then kokichi survives Miu's attempt to kill him, steals the exsials, lies about being the master mind and kidnaps kaito. And while carefully watching the security footage for the hanger, opps the screen went black and, omg there's a dead body how the hell am I supposed to explain this one! Then the reveal that no one died and that 3 hour trial that suichi just sat through was for nothing, idk I just love that.
Two, the absolute betrayal! Kaito would be devastated, he helped suichi so much and trusted him and it turns out he was just a spoiled brat that tried to kill them all, and kokichi would just die on the spot. Kokichi has extreme trust issues and out of everyone he trusted suichi the most because of his ability to always get to the truth so having suichi laughing at how naive all of them are, he would probably just start genuinely crying.

I think Keebo is a good mastermind in my opinion. We know that Keebo is TeamDanganronpa's property, but in my AU Keebo is just like in his backstory, a robot created by professor Idabashi. But in this AU, Keebo has a glitch in his software and that make him want to learn every emotion as much as possible. At start he learn things like happy, then angry, and then sadness. But he didn't satisfied at all and want more emotion. And he start make trouble so he could feel emotion.
But its still not enough, so he try to create incidence that result of his dad's death. He felt loss, but its still not enough. So he create a killing game so he could feel tons of emotions. He kidnapped people and with professor Idabashi's techologies, he can erase and plant fake memory of these strangers so they can't remember who kidnap them.
I imagine at the final trial Keebo explain his motivation and everyone who survive shock to hear it. But Keebo is defeated and in his final moment, he said that he finally felt emotion regret.

We never really get an explanation as to how they came to be (especially since it can be assumed V3's set in the present time). If Professor Idabashi can make a robot that can feel emotions and desires the ability to feel them as much as they can, who's to say he couldn't invent torches which give you false memories lol.

Himiko lost her master and hadn't realised it yet, believing they are fighting some evil thing when in reality they are dead. After realising their master is dead she went into a depressing phase where she mourned over their death, unable to perform magic shows her ultimate title was on the line. That is when one of her closest friends, Rantaro, who also found out his sisters are actually dead, helps her feel confidence by trying to make her accept that her master is dead as his sisters.
But Himiko didn't want to accept that truth.
She felt anger and resentment for finding out the truth, that death is just around the corner for every living thing and it terrifies her to bits. But when a particular death that is probably important to the cause of her motivation, she realised that death isn't actually around the corner but a button that is slowly being pressed at different speeds. With this newfound theory, she done her shows and collected money, doing charities and becoming a well-known philanthropist all so she can gain connections. She started planning a game for her to play, all to see if these buttons could be pressed even faster when forced.
She chose the most important people in the world, Rantaro and her included, and put them in a school where a cage is over the property. She advertised it as a reality show when really it's a message to be sent to the world about death.
Himiko erased Rantaro's memories of him and her together as friends, as well as him finding out his sisters are dead. Himiko was also hesitant to erase her own memories so that she doesn't slip up, but to also forget that her master is dead. But she erased it anyways and played this game blind. At the end, when Himiko is revealed to be the mastermind, she remembers everything and has a breakdown. Apologizing since she gotten close with the people in the game. She just wanted to believe that death wasn't the end for a person.
I think Himiko would be a bit of a sympathetic Mastermind, although the story would be a little different since instead of the world ending it would be connections to each other.
Especailly connections to Rantaro since Himiko probably requested him to help her start the game so she made him have connections with the participants. Further making him look like the mastermind when in reality it was Himiko forcing him.
The reason why Rantaro let him get bossed around by Himiko is because Rantaro is still mourning the loss of his sisters and sees Himiko as a little sister or something...

The more I thought about it, the more Naegi and Taka have become my favorite masterminds, thanks to your videos. (Even if Chihiro and Chiaki are still pretty high-up.)
But Shuichi just tops them all in my opinion, just because of the sheer shock value it would have created by destroying the most recurring trope in DR. So I'm curious to see what you'll say about that.
Also, if you're interested, I created a wheel that utilizes both the Student Council and the DR0 characters for one of those "rewrite the series" video, by adding some strict rules to the rewrites to make them possible.

On the Fandom page, it mentions how tsumugi was a member of 52 as well, and how she could have either been the mastermind, or a participant turned into the mastermind. I think that an inversion of the story with tsumugi as the ultimate survivor and rantaro as the mastermind would be cool, especially if he was given the option to rewrite tsumugi as his sister. Given how she was with him until the end, it would be really creepy to see him talking about something she doesn't even remember.

  • @phantomlord77
    @phantomlord77 2 роки тому +82

The Rantaro one I think Himiko would be a better sister figure as she's young, naive and does need protecting at least in the beginning . So it could trigger like a big brother instinct in him plus I could see her depending on how much the personality is the same from before the audition tapes could just be forced to audition like she's only doing it cause of her parents or friends are all doing it and she honestly doesn't even like Danganronpa and Rantaro can tell. He sees her as someone who lied the entire audition using vague wording or maybe even coping some people's answers. But the DR crew put her in for that reason an innocent character that would go through growth like he had last season with Tenko and Angie or be a kill that would tug on the viewers heartstrings. The despair at the end of her friends beings fake would drive her to maybe want to forget about everything entirely thus she might want the personality change and it would be up to the main character to talk her out of it arguing that she should live in memory of them instead of Rantaro who wanted to die cause his friends were fake.

Your Mastermind Rantaro ideas are so good! His circumstances would definitely make me empathetic to his cause but the betrayal of knowing the protagonist character was only being used by him the whole time would hurt SO BAD. It almost makes me wish that it was V3's actual Chapter 6 plot twist.
You could even have dual masterminds with Tsumugi and Rantaro pulling the strings together. Two Masterminds would make it much easier to manipulate the students in moving along the plot Team Danganronpa have set out, maybe with Tsumugi in charge of the girls and Rantaro in charge of the guys. Sticking with your ideas of his motives behind being the Mastermind, imagine having Rantaro confess his anger and despair for his classmates while Tsumugi simply evil laughs from her stand...

@@yeahbutwhy8788 Yeah, 100%, especially if you stick with the idea that all the students are actually superfans of Danganronpa and willingly volunteered to participate in the killing game. Having Rantaro believe he's got a higher moral ground compared to the others, only to discover he's stooped just as low (if not lower), would be an extremely interesting journey for his character.

In this idea, the trial’s results are inconclusive so Shuichi applaudes the killer and lets both the killer and Maki free for creating the ultimate case while determining to kill the others. Kaito horrified determines to figure out the mastermind which the mastermind agrees to as to keep the mystery going

I have to say my favorite might be Rantaro, it’s just so fascinating and I think it really makes use of the whole memory and personality manipulation and “fictitious” people that the game introduces. I feel like it’d be really fun both as a reveal and as something to foreshadow maybe with exactly how Rantaro would talk to Kaede before the reveal.

milkakira on tumblr made comic that involved a poll idea where Shuichi and Tsumgui were *both* behind the killing game, however, Tsumgui was a pawn in the end with Shuichi revealing that he had her execution planned from the start.
He asks the remaining students what they feel be it sadness (Himiko), rage (Kiibo) or betrayal (Kokichi). He interrupts Kaito when he starts to speak because Shuichi helped write his lines.
Another twist is the reason Kokichi is still alive. He placed 1st in a fan poll that let the fans decide who lived till the end.

A new series that would be interesting to see you play around with could be something of a "Shuffled" idea.
Some examples could be "What if the casts of each game were switched (DR1 cast in the DR2 setting, DR2 in V3's, and then V3 in DR1's setting)?" Or "what if the motives from each game were shuffled around" how different would that make things?
Another au video series could be "How different would the story/character interactions play out if the killers and victims were swapped?"
Lastly, and this one could be a bit more cursed depending on your luck, but you put the casts from all the main games into one randomizer. The first 16 (8 boys 8 girls) you land on become the new cast of Danganronpa Trigger Happy Havoc. You can either randomize the roles (protags/mastermind/rival/etc) or craft out how the story would play out yourself based on who you have to work with!

So in my social studies class we’ve been learning about Terrorism and if Angie was the mastermind this would actually be a very perfect example of that. A definition of terrorism my teacher gave us was “violent acts towards a group of people to cause fear or try to get them to follow a certain belief or political opinion.” Killing game, that’s a pretty violent act against a group of people. And with her whole chapter 3 arc of her converting around half of the group to her little Atua cult that definitely would check out
Edit: also the fact that Angie was somehow always on the correct side of the argument during the debates seems a been too coincidental

    - "Or at least their wallets are moved." LOL. For real though, the Kaito scenario you put forward is pretty compelling. I always thought despite everything there was still that toxic positivity and even toxic masculinity (...I don't think I'll ever recover from him punching a grieving Shuichi, at least he apologised later but STILL), so it's interesting to see a version of this character where these flaws are brought to their extreme. Also yeah, Shuichi and Maki reacting would be gut wrenching.
    - "The other primary interest in this AU is for us Saimatsu shippers who just love to feel pain." DAMN RIGHT. But... wow, I love this. If this was what happened I'd love it. Would also be a great deconstruction of the glorification of the "suffering artist". I think I mentioned in my pitch for her as a mastermind I focused on her wanting to make everyone smile, and she is using the killing game as a twisted way to bring the Ultimate Hope into existence (sacrificing the lives of these people to create the most uplifting story ever), but this perfectionist artist who forces herself to suffer and experience despair for the sake of creating more art speaks to me in a different way (and also cleverly incorporates her talent). Also... her making everyone kill Shuichi like with Junko's proposition in the first game BECAUSE she loves him? It's like you're TRYING to win me over.
    - Angie's a tough one for me. I'm biased because she's one of my least favourite characters, specifically because I feel like she feels like too much of a racial stereotype of Polynesian (or at least Pasifika) people, but the idea of "Atua" being this bigger bad is... interesting to me. My thought was that to give Angie more depth if she HAS to have so many stereotypical traits like the weird spiritual devotion, sacrifices, casually skimpy look, etc, it would make sense if she was being manipulated by someone who is kind of a cult leader in their own right. Like, you could make it commentary on how missionaries and stuff kinda forced religion on a lot of Pasifika people as part of colonialism? This guy could be a total scammer just manipulating people, but he could possibly use the real Atua aspect and appropriate it to seem more persuasive or something? And I mean, if V3 says anything, Danganronpa isn't afraid to dish out social commentary, lol. IDK, Angie's a character I just really struggle with, like I'm not even Pasifika myself and I'm still uncomfortable at how stereotypical she is.
    - You say that maybe Team Danganronpa maybe made the 52nd game to bring a survivor to despair and create a mastermind for the next... just saying, what if this is part of TSUMUGI'S backstory? IDK how it would work and I know this is about Rantaro, but it's an interesting thought. Anyway, Rantaro... wow, that's a pretty fucked up scenario. Someone driven to despair and then participates in the next game and goes through with it just for revenge. The whole liking Kaede and then planning to rewire her entire mind to make her his "sister" is super creepy too (and people think Korekiyo is creepy about his sister, lol). It's a unique motivation too I think, someone driven to revenge and then basically perpetuating the same thing he did to others, it almost makes me wonder if this is how Team Danganronpa would continue the killing, creating an endless cycle like this.
    - Okay, Shuichi's pretty interesting, especially incorporating the backstory of his parents. The idea of him also being a spoiled rich kid is amusing, too. As for how you were to execute it while still being the protagonist... well, Kaede showed us they could cleverly pull off an unreliable narrator, so Shuichi doing this for the whole game would be very intriguing. You might have to modify Kaede's role a bit if you don't want this to be repetitive (unless her instance foreshadows the even BIGGER deception from Shuichi in a way). Would also show just how many corners Shuichi is willing to cut to get his way as the spoiled kid, I think. Like, not only is the meta aspect of him actually being a doofus in the game prompts clever, but he could also be relaying info to and communicating with Team Danganronpa in the process, who are relaying this info to him. Moments where we assume we just cut to later, eg sleeping at night are actually moments where Shuichi is up to no good orchestrating events. But yeah, interesting scenario, and fun vid in general!

OH Korekiyo got me thinking... what if he's a survivor in the Rantaro mastermind AU? I feel like him living could be an interesting parallel to Rantaro, someone obsessed with a sister who doesn't exist and willing to spill blood to be with them. Could be especially interesting if he still murders too (I'm thinking someone else kills Angie or whoever is in her place, and Korekiyo doing the seance later absolves him of being the blackened, which is kinda what I hoped for but yeah lol), to have them both have blood on their hands. I think it could also give Kiyo a bit of a redemption story as well, and he ends up siding with his new friends in the end instead of Rantaro clinging to what he feels he needs (if Kiyo really has a sister as well, you could keep the grooming aspect too and her not really caring much for him in the end).

I LOVED your take on all of the characters and the different way they could be masterminds. This is not exactly a common one, but I think Kirumi as the mastermind would be very interesting. I think it would be a bit similar to your Sonia and Taka theories from your previous videos. Since Kirumi has shown to be quite intelligent and manipulative I think she would make a great mastermind. Also finding out that the sweet motherly maid who was determined to constantly help othering being the mastermind would probably cause a lot of despair for the characters. It would be a pretty similar reaction to when the cast realized she was a blackened, but more extreme.
In this AU Kirumi would actually be the prime minister. The killing game would be filled with people with criminal records (probably responsible for more serious crimes), and serve as a “trail for redemption”. Everyone’s memories and personalities would still be altered to give the allusion of the participants having a second chance at life. The participants could possibly come from horrible situations that made the public sympathetic towards them, so Kirumi used the killing game to see remembering a life in better circumstances would change whether not they would be a murderer. If they kill someone Kirumi could justify their death by saying that the person was irredeemable because despite them having memories of being in different circumstance they still decided to kill. When a victim dies Kirumi could justify it because the person was already a criminal anyways. They were not entirely innocent.
Her motives would be very similar to her motive video, in the since that this is how she will protect the population of Japan. This killing game would be used as a warning against destroying the peace in order to create a safer Japan. Kirumi could also use it as a way to get rid of criticism since the killing game is used as a way to see if the participants are worthy of a second chance. Obviously if they killed in the game it would mean that they would just go back to crime again if she let them go. Those who survived the killing game proved themselves worthy and are not only able to leave, but they will have their records wiped clean. Kirumi would give them a pardon to their crimes before the game. She might even use this as a way to get the “consent” of the participants, to show that they all agreed to join and counter the argument that what Kirumi is doing is wrong because she basically kidnapped them.
Kirumi would participate in order to show the public that she is not some psycho that does this for her own enjoyment. Whether or not her memories would be altered as well I’m not sure. She would show the public that she is unable to give in to the urge to kill, no matter what. If her memories are not altered she would rarely use her perks as the mastermind to aid her. She could still easily become a victim like anyone else. If she kills then she will be punished like any other blackened. She can’t do what Tsumgui did or what Junko attempted to do.
Sacrifices were made but all for the good of Japan.

Honestly, if they hadn't pulled the whole chapter 5 thing, I think Kokichi would've been really interesting as the actual Mastermind. He is the literal embodiment of the game's theme with him being associated with truth and lies. And I've always been really fond of characters who are kinda playful and occasionally the punching bag(because it makes both the players and audience underestimate them). The reveal of that character you underestimated actually having a super serious side and being in charge of the whole thing is always fun too. If the 5th trial had gone differently, I could see Kokichi finally opening up to the others and revealing that he's finally going to start trusting in them and getting to reconcile with Shuichi. Just to reveal it was all one big act during the final class trial.

Okay so I just saw the Rantaro one and I thought: I have a great idea children.
So Incoming Rant thing. It’s gonna be long, so here’s the warning.
Pretty much, Kaede (protag convenience I guess) is, in this universe, really good at piano. She was forced to watch the season Rantaro was in and practically fell in love with his gf because gay Kaede rights.
She also really likes their relationship and is really sad when she dies, so she makes a recording of her, and she makes a piece to honor her memory.
Team DR is touched by this because it’s the first time they’ve actually seen a character with an already acceptable talent *and* a good personality to hook the audience, so they take her in.
Obviously they force Rantaro to watch this, and he’s forced to hear how much Kaede hates the game, but she is forced to watch and audition by her twin sister as a joke, not knowing she’d be accepted, and is *heartbroken.*
He finally can meet a real person who he can sympathize with, and now she’s at risk of dying to a horrid killing game. Also she reminds him of his sisters so that’s a plus ig.
When they meet, Kaede tells Shuichi and Rantaro about how much she hates the mastermind, and how she’d kill them if she could, but because of a lingering doubt of killing the wrong person she can’t. And this makes Rantaro feel a bit bad about being the mastermind, but reminds himself that the rest of the cast, excluding him and Kaede, chose this. They deserve every terrible thing that happens to them, and he’s reassured he’s doing the right thing.
Eventually, Kaede gets very close to Tsumugi, who dared to audition to be in this game. Obviously Rantaro is displeased that someone would ever have the audacity to “manipulate” such an innocent flower in a field of tainted grass. Now, what’s a great idea to eliminate this threat to this ‘flower’ he wants to protect? Kill it. He deliberately sets up a targeted motive that would force Tsumugi to kill someone, and she does, killing Shuichi, because she didn’t know any better.
Forgot to mention that Rantaro is still pretty chill on the outside, he’s just a complete emotion-driven psycho on the inside, sorry :/
Anyways Kaede is heartbroken by this, she made the fatal error of getting close to someone in a killing game that’s slowly turning into the masterminds personal Kdrama. Rantaro is pleased because he got two ‘villains’ with one stone, and next on the chopping block is Kokichi. Kokichi annoys Rantaro. Always treating everyone like they’re below him while he looks like a fucking rotting grape vine. And he tries to get him killed. Obviously Kaede notices Rantaro’s dislike towards Kokichi and confronts him, believing him to be planning on killing him. Rantaro denies this, excusing it by having a bad day and Kokichi making it worse.
Rantaro realizes that if he ever wants to rid himself of this nuisance he’ll have to let the dr team choose a motive so he has no involvement with it. And he does exactly that, creating motive so he doesn’t have to be involved. During the trial, Kirumi asks if Kaede had something to do with it. Rantaro, for the first time onscreen, panics and rushes to defend Kaede. But Kaede replies that she was with Gonta, trying to teach him how to play some basic songs on the piano. Eventually process of elimination leads to the reveal that Angie is the killer of Kokichi. Angie reveals that Kokichi had told her that, if he escaped, he would make sure her and all of her people would suffer for ‘the horrid shit they’ve done’ because he’s a little shit like that. Angie is horrified. And, believing it was her own will, kills him. Not to escape, but to ensure her people were safe.
Third trial kills off Kirumi and Himiko, with the culprit actually being The victims, who collaborated to make a trial where their friends wouldn’t have to die. Chapter 4 makes the culprit Miu like god intended, but Miu kills Gonta when she intended to kill Rantaro because poor Gonta didn’t know what Rantaro had put them through, and he wanted to defend his friend. In chapter 5 Maki mercy kills Kaito so he doesn’t feel the pain of his sickness any longer, and in chapter 6 Kaede discovers Rantaro’s true reason for protecting her, to overwrite her persona with that of one of his sister’s, and is just broken by this.
She goes through endless suffering only to discover she’s only here to fill the space of someone else, and all her friends’ lives were falsified. Even if she lived without her personality being erased, escaping with everyone else. She’d have to live with the guilt that she’s the only one who had anything, or anyone, to go back to. The other’s had nothing. Rantaro tries to assure her with the videos of them auditioning for the game, saying that they deserved it because they willingly chose to be a part if it.
Kaede snaps at him, instead. How dare he be swayed by a few videos. Feel no guilt for subjecting their friends to killing, all because pf a few words they said about his friends.
She argued that he had no right to force the ones that died through this mess because they weren’t the same as when they auditioned. These were human lives, lives that would probably have grieved his friends’ deaths with him. And he chose to kill them off instead because of the personalities they *used* to have. Not the ones they did have, the ones they used to.
Rantaro chooses a different way if swaying her. He sets up a compromise. If they all choose not to vote, then they can spend the rest of their lives safe from the harm of the outside world. They would also have to live with no killing. But Kaede’s persona is replaces with one of his sister’s.
Or, they can vote the mastermind. *But.* He says that if he gets executed then so will Kaede.
Everyone is at a dead end. Both ways Kaede dies in some sense, and there is no hope. On one end, they can live together without having to kill and Kaede doesn’t have to be executed, but she’s practically replaced by a whole other person and Rantaro is still living. On the other, they can all escape, and Rantaro is killed. But Kaede dies with him because he’s the mastermind and he makes the rules.
Then Kaede has a stroke of genius. Rantaro said that *everyone* had to vote for one option for it to work, so she asks the room “What if we just split the voting?”
Rantaro’s asks what she means and Kaede explains that “You said that *everyone* had to vote an option. If half of up vote to kill you and the other half doesn’t, what then?”
This is a genius plan, because this idea prevents Rantaro from choosing one because it had more votes than another. If half of them vote Rantaro, and the other half don’t, what happens then? Does the outside world choose from there? Does everyone get executed instead? Nobody knows for that moment because that mastermind didn’t think of that possibility. Monokuma then says “if there’s an even vote, you all can leave and Rantaro gets the crushing”
This solves one problem, but leaves open another. At this moment, there is only Ryoma, Tenko, Kaede, Keebo, and Rantaro. This is an odd number of students, meaning they can’t have an exactly even number of votes.
This forces them to ask for help from the viewers, because they can be the only tie breakers.
In the end, Ryoma, Kaede, and Tenko vote to execute Rantaro, reasoning that Kaede can work herself out and it’d just be harder to live with a shell of your friend. Keebo and Rantaro vote to stay in the school, reasoning that they might as well keep everyone alive for as long as possible. The outside world is left as the deciders. Will they voter to stay, effectively preventing future killing games from taking place? Will they vote Rantaro, which kills both the protag and the mastermind? Or will the distribute it evenly, letting Rantaro get the boot to hell and the others escape? It’s all based on chance, since nobody knows who’s gonna vote who.
When the votes are processed, there is more votes to kill Rantaro and Kaede than not. The survivors excluding Rantaro are devastated. Kaede’s sister is devastated. Monokuma is devastated because the viewers are devastated. They get executed. But miraculously Kaede didn’t forget her plot armor and Tenko manages to save her before she dies.
Rantaro tries to run after her but is gravely injured because the one thing he sucks at is staying alive. Kaede, Tenko, Ryoma, and Keebo ig get to leave. Rantaro is injured, practically crying for help, or at least to be put out of his misery. But they leave him to pray that the ambulance (how convenient) waiting for them sees him. They do, and they help him because it’s their legal obligation to or smth idk the law. Obviously in the hospital Rantaro is scolded for agreeing to something so stupid, and letting his emotions get the better of him. And he’s like “I know… I know..”
Kaede, at home, is apologized to so much by her sister for getting her into that mess she nearly evaporates, and she decided to bring the survivors (minus Rant) into he house bc they besties now. Keebo sees a roomba is has no idea what it is because Keebo problems. Tenko tries to not die from seeing to cute women at the sane time, and Ryoma plays with their cats because he deserves the world.
Oh and Rantaro leave the hospital in debt and trying to find Kaede because he’s like a Nagito stan; not knowing when to give up.
The end. Holy shit there’s probably like five plot holes in this story I made but I’m done with it. Swear this shit took me a whole hour to write.
Hope you enjoyed, and side note that in this universe Kaede’s design in that beta one where she has the tophat with the ahoge sticking out because it’s cute and I love it

i know it would be very predictable if kokichi was the mastermind, but i have my own ideas on how it would be if he actually *was* the mastermind. ill just share these ideas cuz why not-
now, its basically a stereotype in all mastermind aus that the mastermind acts very differently from how they act pre-reveal and post-reveal. what if we applied this to kokichis usual manners? while sure, he is unpredictable so we dont know what his actual personality is, imagine what he would act like after the reveal. maybe he was forced into the mastermind role? maybe he *didnt* like the idea of murder? so he suddenly act very nice, like how many imagine his pregame self to be like. like, imagine he would say like “i didnt want any of this! i dont wanna be the mastermind!” that would be unexpected of him, and since the mastermind should be unexpected, it would be perfect. that would also explain why he lied about everything, possibly including his personality. *he didnt want any of it*.
i think it would be an amazing twist to see kokichi ouma, the person who we all expected to be a psycho if he was revealed as a mastermind, to be actually very kind. it would also break up not only the junko enoshima thing, but it would also be nice to see a mastermind who was against the idea of murder. kinda like chiaki, except she wasnt really the mastermind but just the traitor but STILL-
idk this is just how i imagine it, you can all headcanon and imagine what you want. this is just my ideas and interpretations and shit :>

What about a Maki "mastermind"? Kind of like Angie, she's not the true mastermind, but rather the cult she serves is.
For a backstory, it could be very similar to her real one, except she was always more caring, like her friend. When the cult took her under their wing, they quickly realized she was much too soft, and tried to work with her for a time, but all their attempts failed. Realizing she couldn't be salvaged like she was, they decided that the only way to speed her growth along was to make her feel such despair that she'd eventually grow completely numb to the idea of "death". Thus, they came up with the Killing Game, basing off an event that had happened a long time ago with Junko Enoshima.
In this universe, Junko and the Tragedy were both real, and this cult was formed in the aftermath of the apocalypse. They'd already recruited multiple good assassins, and operated much like Fenrir, even going so far as to owe their creation to Mukuro. Using this as a base, they manipulated Takumi into joining them (along with threatening Misaki) and Maki followed not long after. Takumi, remembering his goddess Mukuro's sister, came up with the idea of forcing Maki and other Ultimates into a Killing Game, offering to be the mastermind to keep Misaki safe. Thus, Maki was forced into it.
I think it would play out mostly the same, except eventuallywhen everyone begins to suspect Maki of being the true mastermind, Takumi remembers how Misaki offered to let him end her life for the greater good and reveals himself to be the one behind the whole thing. At first, Maki condemns him, saying how terrible he was for only going through with this to harden her, but after he reveals it was to keep Misaki safe, she likens it to her own experience with her friend and begins begging everyone not to kill him. He tries to tell her to let him die, asking her to give him this last chance to redeem himself, but she refuses, saying that she, Shuichi, Himiko, Keebo, and him were going to leave together and save Misaki.
Ok this turned into more of a Takumi mastermind, but I think it would also work to promote one of Danganronpa's less well-known spin-offs (for real tho go read Killer Killer it's amazing), but also this is feasable since Takumi and Misaki's statuses are unknown and it's implied they're still possibly alive, so this would give a satisfying continuation/conclusion to their arc.

I think having 2 masterminds might be a fun twist, maybe one would be killed(or kill themself becase They relise how screw up this is) in the game and leaving the 2nd one Really sad becase They accualy cared for each other or the other one acting like junko and getting Really happy. The 2nd one would make a Really sick character and the first one might make the other characters fall into despair when its reviled that not only 1 But 2 characters They cared for acted like that.

I actually once had an idea for this involving Ryoma and Kaito representing the black and white sides of Monokuma respectively. After all, with them being the biggest pessimist and optimist of the cast respectively, nobody would think they could ever work together. In reality, they would be like a yin and yang, their personalities balancing each other out. Ryoma would pursue despair's sadness, while Kaito would pursue despair's happiness. Ryoma would make himself the blackened in a very complicated chapter 5 case involving the possibility of two victims killing each other. On the other hand, Kaito would continue the game afterwards, and create the motive Ryoma would need to become a blackened without looking like a mastermind. Then at the end of the game, Kaito would reveal the actual truth, and be executed with a smile on his face. I called them the Darklight Duo because alliteration and wordplay that makes sense.

This will probably be lost in the sea of comments but I have to say this idea thats been around in my head for a long time. In DRv3 why did they make Tsumugi the mastermind and not do more with her especially with the TV angle. The Flashback light can insert new memories and they had to find evidence to prove that the memories were false. Why didn't (for drama sakes) they make Tsumugi the mastermind AFTER the game started. Had a special flashback light made for whoever the producers of the game felt would best make the mastermind rather then her being a plant from the beginning. The mere thought of your brain being scrambled like that is terrifying and would sell a simple point. ANY of them could have been made the mastermind. It was just Tsumugi's bad luck, or the others good luck, that she was chosen to fill the role. Especially with the implication that they could have just been normal people who chose to be in a death game. You know if it wasn't Tsumugi pretending to be them. That Cospox thing is still sketchy as heck. Sorry for the rant its just been in my head for the longest time.

Another Kaede AU that occured to me is her being employed by team DR like Tsumugi is, but where Tsumugi is a fan of the show and representative of both the producers and consumer of modern pop culture, Kaede by contrast is of the mindset of a classical artist. She wants to create the best season not out of passion for the franchise like Tsumugi, but to demonstrate that her talent is wasted on commercial television. She is the artist who feels restrained in their vision by management, and restrained by where life has placed them.

Oh, so I was thinking how Kokichi could be an alternate mastermind, since he's my favorite character, but running into trouble since one of the only things we can say for sure about him is that he hates death, murder, and the killing game most of all. How would Kokichi ever be the mastermind considering all of that?
So then I thought, what if Danganronpa had been receiving a lot of in universe controversy and pushback lately, maybe it was just getting too gruesome or something, and the people fighting to end Danganronpa all came together as one group under the Ultimate Supreme Leader himself (this time with a group that really did have over 10,000 members!). Team Danganronpa just tries to laugh it off at first, but the Anti Danganronpa coalition is gaining more and more support, and even threatening to begin lobbying government with the money it is amassing.
So Team Danganronpa comes to them with an offer. They will end Danganronpa for good IF the next season rakes in the most ratings and controversy the show has ever seen. They can pick anyone they want to be the mastermind and run the show, it just has to be so entertaining, so shocking, so Danganronpa-y that more people than ever before watch it.
This is tempting to the Anti Danganronpa people because while lobbying and protest may work, there is still no guarantee that it will, whereas there is notarized legal work involved forcing Team Danganronpa to disband and cease production of Danganronpa, IF the new season is the most successful one. It sounds almost too good to be true.
So, taking the bait, the Anti Danganronpa people (maybe they are called DICE in this universe) assign their fearless leader as the mastermind who calls all the shots for the new season, as, if anyone can cause entertaining chaos, it's Kokichi Ouma; he begrudgingly accepts the duty. They believe that Team Danganronpa thinks toping its old ratings is impossible, and this will just make DICE hypocrites, but DICE have faith that Kokichi can do it.
He does a great job, and ratings are soaring, and by the fifth trial, it's all but certain that Team Danganronpa will have to disband. Kokichi is brimming with pride, even if he does feel guilt for the lives lost to get to this point, as he has finally ended the killing game he hates so much until... "backstage" he notices some documents. Team Danganronpa are actually planning to reform under multiple different names, and just have smaller scale, slightly different killing games. After all, legally they're only bound from making Danganronpas as Team Danganronpa.
Kokichi is horrified that, with his help, the killing game is not only multiplying, but he HELPED PROMOTE IT and now it's more popular than ever.
Not to be defeated though, Kokoichi calls the 6th and final trial HIMSELF, and explains the situation to the survivors. Afterward, he teams up with Kaito, who has survived to this point in this AU, to give the speech Shuichi gave at the end of canon V3 to convince the public to give up killing games, and with the combined force of both of their charisma put together, it works.
The public realizes that killing games are wrong, and Kokichi and the other survivors leave, with their head held high, knowing that they ended it, even though Kokichi still feels immense guilt he will be processing his entire life due to his role in making this season happen.
I know it's not great, but I did the best I could with the character constraints, and I hope someone found enjoyment from this. Thank you for reading!

    My Mastermind Kiibo AU
    (Spoilers just in case)
    Chapter 1:
After finding out the truth that Tsumugi is the one who killed Rantaro and framed Kaede Tsumugi has no other choice but to confess.
She then told Kaede and everyone that she wasn't even the mastermind. She was just a part of the team behind the killing game and they won't give up so easily. Tsumugi was executed with rocket execution since the team didn't make an execution for her because she was supposed to make it far. while the rocket crashed, Pieces of the rocket flew towards the students but Kiibo shielded everyone, causing his antenna and body to break. Fortunately, Miu Fixed Him.
Chapter 5: Kaede Saves kokichi from the poison arrow and Gives him the antidote. she ended up killing herself to save Maki from becoming the culprit, transfering the protagonist role to Shuichi. in the 5th trial Kokichi plays the villain so Everyone will vote for him but it fails as Shuichi breaks his mask, making Kokichi to finally confess that he lied to himself. Kaito was cured from the Ilness by the audience votes ending up with a trial without execution since the Culprit is already dead and Monokuma was already Tired.
Chapter 6: Monokuma uses Tsumugi's cosplay powers and tells the truth about the killing game. That everything that happened was a lie and Kokichi knew about it from the start since he was immune to the flashback lights, causing everyone to fall into despair. However Kiibo wasn't ready to give up hope thanks to his inner voice.
Then, Monokuma tells him the truth. Not only he's the mastermind, he's also the audience surrogate. at first Kiibo was shocked but he still wasn't ready to bring or fall into despair. after everyone rejected hope and despair Kiibo started to feel strange, the audience were controlling him through the cameras. Now the audience is in full control, trying to make the survivors to choose between hope or despair. They wanted Danganronpa to continue but Shuichi, Maki, Himiko, Kaito and Kokichi stood their grounds and together, they ended Danganronpa. Kiibo manage to take control on himself for the last time, destroying the academy, Killing Monokuma in the process by activating self-destruction.
Even though Kiibo was the mastermind of this killing game against his will, he was still cinnamon roll who wanted this killing to end.

My crazy idea for V3 masterminds is that I'd love to see half the cast involved in the Danganronpa TV show in some way, both knowingly and unknowingly. Obviously Tsumugi could be a leader/costume designer for the show. Kirumi would be a perfect stage manager/producer type. They could keep the idea of her doing *anything* for authority. Miu being the Ultimate Inventor would build the sets and executions with Angie helping out with the more artistic side. Kaede could do the music. Shuichi could be the one to craft all the mysteries and investigations. And Rantaro could sit in on all the auditions as an Ultimate Survivor to handpick the cast. Then maybe only Tsumugi and Kirumi are aware of the fictional show while the other cast members have had their memory wiped of their involvement. That would also create a schism in the final trial between the "masterminds" who built the TV show and the normal auditioners/victims of the game. I feel like V3 missed out on so many opportunities when it came to the whole TV show metafiction aspect. They also easily could've done it so that Junko is an older showrunner now with the middle aged Ultimate Despair by her side as the main producers. I'd love to see what they all look like as adults with thriving careers. Imagine business Junko showing up to lay down a good helping of despair.
Also, I've always liked the theory that Danganronpa was being canceled as a TV show and that's why they allowed the cast to beat Tsumugi at the end. They could play with the idea that even their escape, their "free will" at the end was all a marketing ploy to make the end of Danganronpa the greatest finale ever.

Like he’s actually WAY smarter than presented in game, maybe his reveal showing him but he seems calm and slightly impressed at who’s made it this far and not over the top chaotic Like Junko (if he starts losing maybe he starts to lose his cool), maybe he wears a full suit with shoes thats spider themed as he trapped everyone in this “web” of a game and instead of insects he owns arachnids instead. He speaks in full proper sentences that sound very professional and it’s just a shock to the remaining students

When i heard your idea for rantaro it was so cool i love rantaro and i was extreamly sad when he died he seemed like such a nice guy that could even be more like our kyoko in the game but truly for his mastermind au i thought of something very different so in the 52 season he used a loophole and in the first chapter he killed everyone except for one person he just went on a murder spree and well you can't do a trial with 2 people so they both "won" and well what i thought is the special thing is that rantaro had his own personality and truly like more than a half of his sisters adored danganronpa and even wanted to sign up which he didn't allow(ofc as a big brother should) and well after all of them went missing he was searching and searching everyone even his parents gave up but he couldn't it was too hard for him and that sent him to a deep rabbit hole after a while he saw the poster for signing to the 52 season and in his eyes he had nothing to lose so he signed up his audition was just his back story and he ended it with something like "that would sound like a good story for a more redeemable mastermind ha don't you think?" And well the danganronpa team really liked his story but they thought its better to put him as a protaganist they didn't rewrite him at all nor did they intervene with his actions and well when he entered the game he realised he was the protagonist and that made him think(he knew only the basic rules and one time he asked one of his sisters why isn't just someone kill everyone and than his sister answered that whenever one of the participants asked such a thing that rule was added to the season) he used that knowledge and kept it to himself he played the protaganist they wanted he made close bonds he wanted to be the best protaganist even if just for little bit for his sisters but than when the first motive came he decided that's his time one of his close ally was very similar in appearence and personality to his youngest sister at the start he thought he would end her first(because he doesn't deserve seeing someone so similar be alive when he does usch a thing) but than when the time to work his plan came he couldn't he skipped he took a cold weapon and started his genocide his brutal approach and cruelty left danganronpa team and the watchers speechless the people he liked most he killed very fast and showed little regret but compared to the others that was a bunch and well when he was walking full of blood to the last ones room she opened the door with a smile when she heard it was rantaro she was terrfied by his appearance his cold expression made her fall she backed away but she was cornered in her room and rantaro was ready to deal the blow when confetti popped out of nowhere monokuma appeared and explain that they both won and well one of them will escape and have his life back while the other will stay as a sacrafice before the girl even processed monokuma's words rantaro said he will be the sacrafice he was expecting death he wanted to go to the other side and see his sisters other than that danganronpa told him he will be the mastermind of the next game and in exchange team danganronpa will search every where for his sisters and they said that they will like him to flip the script again they gave him the basic script of the game and showed him the auditions and told him that the real protaganist will die and be replaced and rantaro will be their helper just like the girl was supposed to be his they also gave him the script of his season which told him that in the last chapter there will be a fake mastermind and in the middle of that trial he will shoot this fake right in the head on of the people he liked in his game he killed with a gun that he secretly stole and gave him a quick death the person didn't even know rantaro killed him that hurt rantaro but just slighty most of his humanity was gone even for himself he is just a monster and well he was told the protaganist will highly resemble his oldest sister(means kaede) that pushed his guilt and pain as they told him as her helper he will need to protect her and be her true friend that hurt him more than anything he didn't want to lose someone who would be so close to his sister he fully agreed as a mastermind was what he said to the danganronpa team the truth was that he won as a protaganist killer and he wanted to win as a mastermind in here mostly is the same except that rantaro is much less suspicious he still is talentless but when he meets kaede and suichi he quickly befriends them explaining every of his little remark and being extreamly close to kaede because he wasn't told the real chapter one the description he got depicts a very similar case to the normal one except that here the victim is kokichi but rantaro all heartdly thought kaede will be framed as the first killer so he kept her extreamly close and made her stay from suichi he was scared suichi will bring to kaede's killing and well he hanged out with her and in such suichi alone found the door and planed his plan to capture the mastermind but than while he was reorganizing the book shelf he understood that capturing the mastermind might not do a thing so he acted like kaede did in the og and kokichi was planning capture the mastermind after finding the secret door by luck and well the despair in kaede's eyes when suichi is excuted is immense that was rantaro's first time seeing an execution but he didn't think of that through the whole excution he asked kaede to close her eyes and he hugged her the whole rest game is the same except the standing for kokichi is kirumi which asked kaito to end the killing game and tenko was tge on who murdered hushi after seeingher teacher in the video and in standing for tenko is himeko(sorry but personally I'd prefer himeko dying and rantaro being a survivor any day of the week) so in the chapter maku kibo and rantaro and kaede ate faced with the fake mastermind and after tsumugi explained all where kibo's stuff starts as everyone are drived into despair rantaro pulls out the gun and shots tsumugi right in the head a fatal blow he told the others he wants keep kaede and end the game again with 2 people remaining but he couldn't he doesn't want kaede someone who truly became his frined who made him feel like a person and not the monster he saw all this time he threw away the gun and asked kaede how can they both win rantaro doesn't want to die a loser if anything after tasting victory in his game he wants to feel it again he confessed to the others of everything he told her how much he was scared she will die in the first chapter and how she makes him feel and how he tried so hard to keep her safe i imagine rantaro begging her to not hate him begging her to not think of him as a monster as that would destroy him fully and after that team danganronpa without rantaro's knowledge show everyone kaede's audition that horrifies kaede and everyone else and than monokuma shows a special deelivery package for rantaro there will be photos of all his sister's corpses that broke rantaro even tho he knew there was no way he had a lil hope and it was completely broken and i see monokuma asking those he really want to keep leaving with a fake knowing all his real sisters are gone i see monokuma giving rantaro the gun and kaede stops rantaro even tho his betreyal broke she saw he was manipulated rantaro isn't a good person but she believes he wasn't pretending with her and he doesn't minding it aiming the gun to his head and when he was about to shoot kaede confesses that she likes him more than a friend that shocks him he deactivates kibo and asks if she says the truth she says yes for what he has done monokuma gives him a punishment but than he decides that he will win only by team danganronpa losing so he rans away with other and they try bringing kibo along and amamatsu live happily ever after yay and maki there(this is so long i feel like i just want amamatsu im such a stupid shipper but i couldn't stop myself)

An idea for the kaede mastermind au. During the killing game instead of the usual music given in executions each is given a unique piano piece getting more and more complex as the killing game continues representing how kaede’s despair causes her music to become better and better and during the six trial after offering the “kill Shuichi and stay safe” vote to drive the others into despair she has the full song placed into each execution driving the characters to relive and eventually face their trauma of the said deaths. As a way to hint at kaede’s involvement as the mastermind after an execution during the fifth trial a character can bring up how haunting the music has been during the killing game

I have ideas of alternate masterminds too.
    -Miu
    -Korekiyo
    -Kiboo
Miu: to create monokuma and the monokubs and the exisals, you need to be very skilled in inventing and miu is After all The ultimate inventor. Also she looks like junko a bit. Motivation: i can imagin her never had any attention from anyone in her live. Not even from her parents. She acts confident and superior to hide her insecurity. She wishes to be loved and rememberd and leaving a legacy. That's why she agread to participate in the 53 killing game as the mastermind, so she can maybe be rememberd as one of the best masterminds in the series and getting the fame and love she deserves. Also she whould make both an funny and great villain and whould maybe be excited about her execution as she whould not only be rememberd as one of the greatest masterminds of danganronpa but also the last one.
Korekiyo: My headcanon whould be that korekiyo and his sister's family are the one who created danganronpa. My headcanon whould be that his sister is the producer of the danganronpa Franchise and to Help his sister korekiyo participated in the 53 killing game as the mastermind. And when he is revealed i Think he whould also bring his sister in it and together they whould reveal the truth and try to Destroy their hope. I whould find it interesting cause of two reasons: Reason.1:we whould have two masterminds
Reasons.2: they whould be more calm and collected masterminds and i whould like to see those kind of masterminds in danganronpa as this whould be refreshing.
Kiboo: My headcanon whould be that kiboo was a robot created by team danganronpa to be not only the viewers's eyes but also be the mastermind behind the killing game. Kiboo did it cause he was to give what the audiences want, but as time goes on grew close to the other characters and slowely Feels some regrets for his actions. I like this cause we whould have gotten then a sympathic mastermind.

it be funny if Shuichi was the mastermind still done chapter 1 the same maybe even was really being a good detective who didn't like to use his mastermind cheats but had a fake out execution for Kaede even though she really did kill Rantaro in chapter 1 and that the only reason she lived was that Shuichi as the mastermind was attached to her and used the Necronomicon motive to get her back into the game and that she was the only one it would work for which is why he arrange for Angie to die when she was about to bring back Rantaro. have him stay out of the seance and use that time to do the ritual as Korekiyo mentions that it could be the transfer student
( he could have been very angry with Kaito for pushing everyone that would support bringing back Kaede into the it can't be real team and rejecting the motive which is why he gave Kaito his illness). and that the choice for hope would have both him and Kaede executed as the only reason she had not been so early was Shuichi's support as the mastermind and Shuichi himself being Kaito's blackened as he poision him which kill him before his execution did ( make the 2 killer rule include that the blackened would be the second killer if the first killer was the second victum)
also as well as only two of them getting to leave and the rest would be in the next killing game baring himself and Kaede who would be executed. but with despair they could all live togther their forever after all that is what happens in any of the games where the despair is the choice that is made and that they would just have to accept that they be watch as reality show stars the rest of their lifes.
