There was a reason Elvis is called The King. He was gifted with a very beautiful golden voice.
By this time in his career, Elvis was polished to a brilliant shine and he knew EXACTLY who he was and what this performance meant. The ONE and always.
It was 1.5 Billion people who watched this concert, there was a total of 3 Billion people living in the world in 1973. Half of the entire world watched Elvis. No other entertainer till this day has ever captivated such a large audience.
Has anyone ever seen the official viewing figures for this show? Back in 73, I doubt there was a way of knowing.

Elvis The '68 Comeback Special and Elvis Aloha From Hawaii are my 2 favorite Elvis concerts. I've watched both concert videos in their entirety numerous times over the years. "I Can't Stop Loving You" was originally a #1 hit song for Ray Charles in 1960. Elvis took this classic song and, being the great interpretive singer that he was, made it his own.
95% of songs were those of other performers I think.
Yep he did the song better than the other prior performers ...much better. Like Blue Suede Shoes for example.

His and entire crew ( band & big band & backup singers ) performance is the TOTAL PACKAGE. Ya have the character of Elvis the voice the dress the jewellery ...the body movements and facial expressions and his big smile at the conclusion...
In this concert he starts off serious as he does in all his concerts...and with every song he gets more and more relaxed and then starts to have fun with his band mates / backup singers and fans....
Remember getting the DVD of this special and was totally blown away !!!
Even with all the footage we have of Elvis ...we crave more footage....more of Elvis...he's like a drug.

What am I saying....we have the film fan footage of Elvis in his many concerts & the tv / movie specials BUT hey let's all board the gospel train bound for heaven ...because Elvis is there putting on daily specials ( heavenly concerts for fans to hear )

Elvis did a great job in pulling himself together for this show. Sad that very little he did after this ever came close to this show. When all else are forgotten Elvis will live on.
You can see the Elvis had a blast doing live shows. I think it was even more fun when something went wrong on a show and they could joke about it.
You are so sweet.......good reaction.......but....please don’t take your eyes off of his endings as they have so much satisfaction from a great performance. The last 3 seconds of that song gives the viewer a look, a smile, and chills. If you are wondering why he was grinning at the beginning of the song, Glen Hardin his pianist played a much frequent trick on that particular entrance. Only 7 strikes of the keys--and Elvis drinking water was caught off guard and had a choice-do I start or say I wasn’t ready (which he has done before). He only had a split second to decide so he went for it. The whole band knew what happened as he glanced and smiled their way. A running joke for that song. Now, fast forward to Big Hunk and watch what he does with THIS glass of water. During the interlude he is looking straight at Glen while he has a piano solo. Glen is smiling with anticipation for what he knows is coming. Near the end of his solo, Elvis throws a wide stream of water toward Glen, dropping the glass which bounces on stage and begins his vocals laughing his ass off. What kids, huh? You gotta watch it a couple of times to see the brilliant payback of all time on the Elvis Stage!!
The 1974 Memphis version is stellar. The ending is awesome

I also hear; Not only was this Elvis' greatest performance, But I also hear he did this one concert all for charity. He didn't make a dime for it. But I also hear he even bought the first ticket. They wanted to raise $25,000 and they raised $75,000. Hearing something like this, only causes you to love the man even more.

I was said that 1.5 billion watched this concert the world population at the time was 2.8 billion to into account not everyone have T.V sets at the time. The Ed Sullivan show 82 percent of T.V were watching the show because elvis was on it

Elvis had pathological stage fright. He couldn't be st the show waiting to go on. He usually arrived just five minutes before he went on.

Love the song, but like some other musicians, they don't show or feel the emotion of songs. Shouldn't be smiling or laughing during sad songs or songs of sad content. Pet peeve of mine. 😉 ABBA's piano player does it all the time.
