gotta consider myself really lucky to not have found this song before. It's an awesome feeling when you still have yet to discover new Elliott songs. ;)
The opening notes have always reminded me of the James Bond theme music. I know Elliott loved the Beatles, and McCartney did the opening song for one of the movies, so maybe this is Elliotts take on it. The title fits.
@@mymayapapaya You're right. I just think he could have been an amazing film score composer given his natural talent for arrangements. The song 'Bye' is another great example of that.
I've always thought of his catalogue as the collection of "The Long Lost 5th Beatles songs"... The guitar, piano, arrangement, and voice (not so much the lyrics, but the voice) are all HUGE tips of the hat toward Harrison, Lennon and to some extent McCartney.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Here's another one like see you in heaven that just drives me insane because it's SO AWESOME and you can almost hear his voice and you wait for it to come in and it doesn't and it's just FUCK
i never got the bird :c not yet anyway - still havent finished the roses around his portrait yet. i'll try to keep your request in mind when i have the money to finish it.
Yep-it's sad to think of the loss to music in his case as in many others,Hendrix,Cobain,Lennon etc,but maybe, like with Nick Drake, what is left behind cant be sullied in any way...
@jakjac08 i always wanted a tattoo of that bird, also. which i sitll might get. but i already have his portrait and the letters XO on my right ring finger. one more elliott tattoo wont hurt, i guess. heh
so what is the story behind this? how do we know for sure it's elliott? yes, it does sound like something he could have recorded, but it's hard to trust everything on the internet.
Elliott Smith Is dead. He is a victim of his own hand, his on again off again girlfriend, or the LAPD. Take your pick. You must see past your love of his music and see him as a person, a human being that you might meet. A friend of a friend. Someone, perhaps, that you might not even like if you got to know. I know that if I dreamed perfect music like he did a sad but all too human thought would buzz in the back of my mind at all times: " Does this person really like me, or do they just like my music? Do they even care about who I really am, or are they just happy to be seen with me? If I were a bum on the street, a broke junkie, would this person give me a chance? Am I all alone? Is it even possible for me to have a genuine friend now that my music has brought me fame and money? Fuck...Where is my Xanex?" I have tried to see past Elliott Smith the Famous Musician and I have tried to see past the 'Elliott Smith that guy who is writing down my thoughts in 1997 before I even have them why wont he stay out of my head?' and I have endeavored to see him as someone I might meet. I am sad ( but strangely encouraged and relieved ) that I have found aspects of his personality that I find....irksome. I get the feeling he is like me. He is like others that I have met and disliked for lying and being judgemental. On the surface he seems to be a really nice guy, but like all humans, he lies. I've caught him in a couple from watching interviews with radically conflicting answers to the same questions. He judges. He is quick to write people off because of differing opinions on ultimately trivial mattes. Finding out the ugly aspects of someone you admire can humanize that person and give you a stronger understanding of who they are...and who you are as well. But..yeah...Elliott Smith is Dead.
he was flawed as we all are... just listen to 'everybody cares, everybody understands" he dropped friends for trying to help him get off drugs and alcohol, he is not truly dead though imo if he is still loved then he lives
Lucas Smith - Why must I see him as you do? You post like Elliott Smith owes or owed you something... Honesty? Like you said... He is dead... He doesn’t owe you...
gotta consider myself really lucky to not have found this song before. It's an awesome feeling when you still have yet to discover new Elliott songs. ;)
Me too⏳💊
I think I vaguely remember it from the figure 8 tour
@@nicholasfaith8999 You are unbelievably lucky to have seen this cat live.
Same here. Big fan but never heard this.
Even his unreleased songs are amazing.
why would you expect them to be sub-par??
TonySarandrea215 because, tony sarandrea, most people's unreleased songs are SHIT, ergo they don't release them.
+onemorebrando in his case he died before he could release a lot of songs he meant to release
Everything he touched turned to gold.
Aw
The opening notes have always reminded me of the James Bond theme music. I know Elliott loved the Beatles, and McCartney did the opening song for one of the movies, so maybe this is Elliotts take on it. The title fits.
the opening of this song screamed BEATLES at me....yet it is still totally Elliott's song.
Man I wish Elliott had become a film composer. This definitely sounds very cinematic. A very cool track.
Well, they did use his songs in movies but I think he’d have been great and that and anything he chose 🌸
@@mymayapapaya You're right. I just think he could have been an amazing film score composer given his natural talent for arrangements. The song 'Bye' is another great example of that.
Incredibly beautiful, morbidly beautiful, prismatic, lush, harsh, absolutely fucking brilliant.

One of my favorite pictures of Elliott. Great song, too.
This is AMAZING. I have almost every Elliott Smith track except for this one. How did I miss this?!
he would've been a fantastic composer. i feel like i could hear this in a blockbuster movie
rip elliott (August 6, 1969 - October 21, 2003) u were a beautiful man and soul, and u will always live on!! love u xo
never heard this and I'm like "WOW"
+Zack Freitas me too! :) he is so awesome ...just when you think you have heard everything something else pops out....what a 34 years....,
Zack Freitas his music has that effect on people
I've always thought of his catalogue as the collection of "The Long Lost 5th Beatles songs"...
The guitar, piano, arrangement, and voice (not so much the lyrics, but the voice) are all HUGE tips of the hat toward Harrison, Lennon and to some extent McCartney.
this explains why i love this man
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Here's another one like see you in heaven that just drives me insane because it's SO AWESOME and you can almost hear his voice and you wait for it to come in and it doesn't and it's just FUCK
this would be tough in a movie
Genius composer...Miss so much Elliott Smith !!!

Makes me think of what could have been.
I'm getting beatles vibes from parts of this
this is different, i like his chill instrumentals like this and kiwi maddog
Fabulous 😊😊😊👏👏👏🎶🎶🎶🎶
That's a great pic for this song.
This must be Elliotts finest assassin pose.
Quality,as usual-in my eyes, this man can do nae wrong.Love love LOVE.

Holy Moly! A song I didn't know!
Got that bird tattooed on my ribcage on what was supposed to be my 1 year wedding anniversary. I adore it! but not as much as Elliott
U can so tell that he was a big Beatles fan,i think his electric guitar playing is Harrison/Neil Young-esque-anybody else feeling that?
sounds like something that should've been on Abbey Road!! Elliott Forever!!!
This would make a good 007 song
Can you imagine if they had him do the song for one of the Daniel Craig Bond movies? He would have knocked it out of the fucking park.
Verdadero genio
wow. had never heard this
@SgtSanchez sweetaddy I guess... the titles of the noise tracks were yay!, the assassin [also known as kill f*ck], o so slow, and
melodic noise
thanks - I was actually wondering if you could link me to a better photo of the bird on the pillar :)
Definitely reminds me of The Beatles
i never got the bird :c not yet anyway - still havent finished the roses around his portrait yet. i'll try to keep your request in mind when i have the money to finish it.
i wonder what this would be like with lyrics
I wonder what Kiwi Maddog would sound like with lyrics
you should do it!
I hear it too. but this is really outside of the bar, even for Elliott.
I forgot about this song, used to listen to it a lot. Isnt this from some album he did with peter krebs?
It would have been an awesome song with the lyrics. I thought the same thing with See you in Heaven.
Aaaaaahhhh so cool!
I could almosy hear lyrics coming ....unexpressed.

hey @mymayapapaya; how did you come to label this song "the assassin?" i didn't know this song had a elliott-given title, and it is a perfect one
saba462 it's been so long that I don't remember, sorry
No worries, thanks for the reply. I will leave it titled as 'Basement Demo Instrumental' ( =
Love it.
i can imagine this with lyrics...
fwark it would've been an instant classic, still amazing with out lyrics =D
Wow, this version is a lot better than the one I have. Where'd you get the title, though?

miss you rain. hope you are okay
As far as i know this is from his last, unfinished album.
the piano melody is kinda similar to the ending of distorted reality
ya know the guy in your avatar looks like a young bob dylan.
onemorebrando it is
he knows. he was just being a smartass.

+mymayapapaya this is true. They say that you die twice. Once when your body dies and once when your name is spoken out loud for the last time.
Lucas Smith - Why must I see him as you do? You post like Elliott Smith owes or owed you something... Honesty? Like you said... He is dead... He doesn’t owe you...
Elliott Smith is dead. King me
A little like son if Sam.
