    For those who might not have noticed. Even ignoring advantage, it is usefull to spend Void Points to take blow's to avoid loosing fatigue, because if you loose all of yur Fatigue you become inapacitated, leaving you unable to fight back. Which means you loose, death or capture are a near certainty on a battlefield,while a lost honor duel can come with any number of consequences, heck even a loss in a tournament might be cost you more than the critical blow might. If you take the blow however there is a good chance you may be able to keep fighting for another round, which might just be all you need to secure victory, if not flee to fight another day.

    About anxieties, or anyway adnvantages and disavantages. They are written in 2 parts, the first one that needs no roll, and the second one related to a rolls. For the anxieties, you gain 3 strife only if you make a roll related to that disavantages.

    At the start of the game seems pretty clear to me. A game is when you sit down to play. Like when you say hey do you want to play a game of battleship? Or when you go watch a game of your favorite sport.

      A game of battleship or your favorite sport can be played, from start to finish, in a single sitting, match or session. There are gamers that have been playing the same game of D&D or L5R for years (I'm one of those people). So to me, that's a game. What you're describing is a 'Session'. In fact on page 282 it specifically calls it a 'Session' in a heading and in the text it calls it a 'Game Session'. Is a 'Game Session' the same as a 'Game'? That is for the GM to figure out, based on their preferences. As of yet there is no official errata on this.

    Hi I'm a year late but I wanna say thank you for these videos! I've been wanting to play L5R for a while but never felt confident enough to go from pathfinder to L5R and these videos are helping me a lot. Also if you see this, do you remember where you got that shirt? It looks so cool

    Great job on these!
    Also, I recall the 1st Edition of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay using that type of Void/Hero point system, called "Fate points". It came out in 1986. Although I'm not sure if West End's D6 system had it before their 1987 Star Wars rpg. I heard their earlier Ghostbusters RPG (also 1986) used a prototypical version of D6, but never saw that one myself. Don't know if that specific Point mechanic was in it.
    Hell, there was probably some small-time, largely unknown, game that first implemented it a year before those and nobody knows!

    I'd love to see a video on how magic works in 5e. I hated magic in 4e.

    The value of the Iniciative is (air+water)/2. If air=2 and water=3 it will be 5/2. = 2.5. Iniciative is 2 or 3?

      Unlike D&D which always rounds down, in L5R you round normally, meaning anything .5 or more goes up.

    Your gripes with L5R are exactly mine. I think mechanics are poorly reasoned. It feels like one person was writing a more DnD style system, another was trying to make a Whitewolf style system, and another person was trying to make the older Roll/Keep system fit in there too.

      Like a mix of previous L5R Roll & Keep, FFG's in-house Genesys/Star Wars/WFRP3e system, and as many changes to typically recognized RPG nomenclature and structure as possible. I like the prior two, but that third word-flipping bit caused a rules interpretation scare. I can see interesting things somewhere beyond the chaos, however.

    if i want more action in my table,could be interesting use Edurence: earth + fire * 3 or 4?

    • @DeadUnicornClub
      @DeadUnicornClub  Рік тому

      That would be a very interesting change to the rules to keep combat going longer, if that's your jam. There are also rules on p288 there are rules for 'grittier games' which makes things more intense.

    Are values rounded up or down, such as gaining Void points equal to half your Ring when it’s 3?

  • @Larol_Kip
    @Larol_Kip 3 роки тому +1

    I don't really understand why a PC would choose to spend a void point to take a critical hit. Is there any reason to do so, other than for roleplay?

    • @DeadUnicornClub
      @DeadUnicornClub  3 роки тому +4

      When you fatigue exceeds your endurance a character is incapacitated and cannot make checks (i.e. roll dice) other than for defense. So a character may want to take a critical hit instead of taking fatigue damage so they can counterattack on their next turn.

  • @jrock-hk7rm
    @jrock-hk7rm 2 роки тому

    Why would a player spend a Void Point to take damage on purpose? Is it to cause more damage to the target at a compromise?

    • @DeadUnicornClub
      @DeadUnicornClub  2 роки тому +1

      As you gain fatigue you'll become incapacitated and thus not be able to attack. Instead of taking that fatigue you can take a critical strike and stay in the fight longer.
