I think he is just trying to rationalize why he quit that he initially made the right decision but lost the desire to be the best. The lesson there is that you need to learn that you will burn out so pick something that ease with your style when you have already dedicated a huge amount of time to your style because we have so much in us to learn. so I am going back that he made the wrong decision for his moment in time , he should have gone for the easier route, and why he couldn't switch back? I feel like he is trying to rationalize again.
