So, the only option is to kill? He is running away, and shot in the back. If a tazer is a deadly weapon why are they using them. Two cops need to kill a man with a tazer? There are people with guns that don't have the same outcome. Police ideology is bullshit. It's a fear based excuses. Learn hand to hand combat skills.

Who, having his car and ID, could’ve been leisurely picked up the next day when he sobered up. Who grabbed a taser that the cops himself deployed... and who always have insisted is non-lethal as they liberally blast restrained and cuffed individuals. People usually don't like being arrested...thats why most complaints are made, and thats why most of the time when they are reviewed the officer is not reprimanded, because the officer did nothing wrong.
Edit: Yes, I know at first glance it looks bad when an officer has complaints filed against them (on some occasions it actually is), BUT you have to look at WHY the complaint was made and what actually happened. You can’t just jump to the conclusion that an officer excessively uses force because there is a complaint made against them. PEOPLE DON’T LIKE TO BE ARRESTED and will look for any way to get out of it (like filing a complaint).

not true...filing a complaint does not help you get out of an arrest or trouble.....filing a complaint means you felt they acted inappropriately....if you're an employee and your employee records shows that there are many complaints on you then what does that say about you?......in any profession it means your methods are not called for,,,so why would that rule not apply as an officer.....filing a complaint is not as simple as making a phone call....in many cases you just write a letter (such as a complaint on a walmart employee) but filing on a police officer there's forms to fill out, you have to go in personally etc...it's a bigger process....its not a simple process so people are not just going to want to go through that trouble for any little thing.....it does mean something if there are a bunch of complaints filed on you.

Officer Rolfe should not have been fired and there should not be any charges brought against him. He was defending his life. Brooks (the criminal) resisted arrest, stole police taser, ran, didn't stop when ordered, shot at Rolfe, Rolfe shot back in self-defense. If the criminal had tasered Rolfe, he could then have taken the police officer's gun and killed him. Stop trying to make this racist. It was not. The two policemen had more patience with criminal than anybody in this world could have. Criminal started this, police ended it as they are supposed to. Do you think that police don't think about the criminals that they killed every day of their life? Leave the police alone and let them do their jobs. If the criminal had been white we wouldn't even have known about it. Rolfe was fired to appease the black communityi. Enough is enough.

@ SuperCushcush, The intentions of these two officers were clear as day. To ensure the safety of the public by making sure a drunk driver did not get back on the road, and holding him legally accountable for the poor decisions he made that evening. They were nothing but professional and respectful. The man initially showed no aggression, and neither did the cops. There is too much uncertainty as to what the man would have done if the cops had let him go. Maybe he might have stayed sleeping in the parking lot until he sobered up enough to drive. Maybe he might have decided he was well enough to drive, got back on the road and kill an innocent person. Maybe he might have gotten home safely, only to repeat this crime and kill someone next time. We can debate all day long about all the possible outcomes if he was let go. But, there’s no debating that if he had just complied, he would be alive today.

But in a five-part series, Reuters documented more than 1,000 incidents since 2000 in which their Tasers have killed people. Peter Eisler, who co-reported the series, joins Hari Sreenivasan from Washington." and an untrained person who was drunk and holding it...made it more dangerous...

Another scenario, say he is able to get away from both cops or somehow able to tazer both, or tazer one and fight the other one then get away and harm and kill some other innocent person...that would be another whole different story on Why or how the cops let that happened...
This is getting ridiculous, regardless of color a person should not resist arrest let alone be felon/ criminals and expect to be treated decently, most people get what they are looking for either bad or good, regardless of race or color you can do of yourself a better person go to school or not, but educate yourself and do good simple as that, don't steal dont comit crime, cooperate when you can and you should be good....

Cops are told not to aim for the legs for multiple reasons. Firstly, aiming for the legs of someone who is running is not easy. Do you see how that works? Secondly there is a major artery that runs through the legs that, if not treated right away, can lead to the shooting victim bleeding out. This is what happens when your knowledge of police procedures is entirely based off of movies and tv shows.

The drunk driver was warned the officer will shoot if he doesn’t stop, he didn’t stop!
All of a sudden, the police department now investigates? Get real. They are afraid of another protest and shame on them for not support the officer. Hyper Rabbit It’s not about the lethality of the taser, it’s the ability to incapacitate someone. Simply put, this whole situation could have been very different if the officer had not shot but the taser shot had been accurate. Then, the suspect could have taken the officers gun, shot both officers, and possibly killed more. The officer shot to avoid this situation, which is obviously highly unlikely, but in the midst of a chase in which the suspect has already struck an officer and taken a weapon, panic can set in. Manslaughter? Yes. Murder? That’s not nearly as clear cut.

If you watch the whole thing, he enjoyed The power he had over Rayshard. He made fun of him several times. Hey, we the people don't get weeks and months before we get charged. You aren't foot soldiers guarding prisoners. You are fellow citizens with a job. You don't deserve to feel more protected from violence from us, than we do from you. Yet you do.
You have all the guns and Kevlar. We don't. We aren't The Policed States of America. Where did you get that idea? Where did you get the idea that when you murder someone, you should get weeks before you get charged? Maybe you should walk it back while the air is so charged, instead of keeping on KILLING BLACK MEN while people are protesting brutality!
As for a tazer being a deadly weapon, then why the hell is it being used at all?! That means, he used deadly force on Rayshard for resisting arrest in the first place. That means all of the people we've seen get tazed for nothing more than a curfew violation, were being hit with a weapon of deadly force.
Argue that. You don't get it both ways.
Tazers are cruel and unusual punishment, and officers are using them for convenience or fun, more and more. They should be illegal af.

Actually, he was completely polite and professional. He followed police procedure that has been established as being correct and effective for decades. I recognized the exact same DUI field sobriety tests as I was trained on them well over 20 years ago. Why are we blaming police for Mr Brooks escalating the situation with violence? I tell you what, go to any country around the world, get yourself arrested by the local police, resist arrest, assault the officers, steal a WEAPON from one of them, attempt to flee, and then turn and shoot at them. Go see how that works. By the way, put your affairs in order first because you will only come home in a pine box. This had absolutely nothing to do with race. This was not about the DUI charge. Mr Brooks made this into a violent incident, and he kept making dumb and foolish choices, and he paid for it. No, he didn't deserve to die. Deserving has nothing to do with it. It has to do with consequences. The training the police are given is not tailored toward a million and one different scenarios. It is tailored towards common and most likely scenarios. Anyone with half a brain knows that when you get violent with police, they will respond and exceed you level in order to gain control of the situation. It IS Standard and basic police training, the same around the world. If you assault them they will assault you back and arrest you. Resist and they will use more force to get you to comply and to subdue you. If you commit violent felonies and present yourself as a threat (which Mr Brooks DID DO), then they will treat you as a violent threat. Congratulations, you just won the Darwin Award.

@Kelli Barnhouse I know. But if you watch the full body cam ua-cam.com/video/4O2IReqaYqw/v-deo.html (look on the left view in slow motion at 42:00) you can see Brooks deploying the first shot at the officer and then again when he was running away and turned around.

So, by that rational all the police that have been shooting protesters with rubber bullets, pepper spray pellets, and bean bags in the face should also be shot and killed for it. Correct?

The former legal advisor shown here said that in 40 years he had never seen an investigation done so quickly and charges brought on so soon. But 40 years ago we didn't have have so many cell phones with video creating ability to capture these events. So allegations of police brutality took much longer to investigate not because investigators are rushing to judgment now as he suggests, but because now we have the facts instantly available and documented on video. Isn't it interesting how they like to argue that the police only have a fraction of a second to make a sound decision based on the information right in front of them, yet we are wrong when we can determine in a fraction of a second what we saw on a video was a murder?
Also it was said that the legal advisor would testify that TaSers were lethal weapons. Now if that'is the case then why are police officers allowed to employ TaSers against members of the general public whom they do not wish to kill knowing that they are lethal weapons? Do we need to add TaSers to the list of banned maneuvers such as chokeholds, or are police unions only claiming that they are lethal when it is convenient for them?

It comes down to two things, training and compliance. Rightly or wrongly cops are taught that the tazer renders you incapacitated it is used to subdue someone by rendering them unable to move. If a tazer is used on a cop the cop will be at risk. The thought being that the cop is arresting while someone using a tazer on a cop is fighting. Cops are taught that every time they are on a call they must not allow any of their tools to be taken and used against them, it is a deadly force situation.
The second issue, compliance. Compliance by tazer is an attempt to gain control of someone so they can be handcuffed, generally the person being arrested isn’t allowed to gain control over the cop.
I would also add that police are sent out to enforce the law, citizens aren’t. If you kill someone there are no questions about you legally doing your job or not. If you charge a cop based on your viewing a video you aren’t even thinking about the laws that enable him to use force. In Georgia and most states a cop can shoot you if he is aware that you just committed a forceable felony, are escaping and may be a danger to other cops who come into contact with him or a third person. The law is the law, that’s why even with video things have to be investigated. The question isn’t did he kill the man, it’s did he have a legal right to kill him

Exactly, they can use them willy nilly, but the moment someone uses one on them it justifies lethal force.

Meanwhile, in most civilian jobs (real jobs...) you get 3 complaints or writeups and you're gone!; why are we so lenient with leeches like this and any other abusive cop?. It should be 3 strikes and you're out. It's not like they are hard to replace...
