Very famous brand in Malaysia... our pro team used the A9X.
Everytime when I watched UA-cam video and when they said you'll never get a very good carbon bike with carbon wheel and Di2 below USD5k... I always comments and recommend Polygon Helios A bike.
Their A7X with 105 Di2 even more value for money.

according to their website, polygon uses a mixture of 2 carbon fibres with lower and higher tensile modulus to build their frames.
what I found interesting is that they seem to use carbon fibres from a big player, the Japanese chemistry enterprise "Toray".
I'd love to see a real check of the carbon fibres used.
please vote this comment up so Cam and his colleagues might check the carbon frame more in detail.
I'm really curious, because polygon doesn't state in particular, which fibres they mixed and at what ratio.

Been riding the A8X for almost a year. I love it. The only issue I also faced was the seatpost sliding down, but I'm 180 lbs. It took me a while to realize they included an extra collar made of steel to lock the seatpost for heavier riders. Problem solved.

My gravel bike was a Polygon Bend R5 for about 1 year (review on my channel too- recent video). For $1500 USD, you got GRX800 series 1x groupset, dropper post, carbon fork, thru-axle, 800 series brakes, etc) Can not beat that deal for a gravel bike. I’ve since moved a lot of the components to a 2023 Trek Checkpoint SL frame (much lighter carbon frame), but the bike served me well. Nothing but good times!

Hey Cam, you've nailed it in the head when I say I've done the exact same calculations with this bike. I have this bike here in Korea, and I've been absolutely loving it because of how well it shreds through the asphalt. A lil fun fact about the wheels, I've been looking around for a decent wheel to upgrade for the future, and I've searched up the specs for the Ultegra C50 wheelset and realized that the specs are almost up to par with of course, minor differences, which is an amazing value proposition. If anyone gets a chance to purchase this bike I highly recommend it.I'm pretty sure if I muster up the courage, I'll do a video of my own!! Great video as always Cam!!👌👌

@Mark Erickson Latonio they're great for the price! For a pair of wheels that come with a bike at this price, it's unbeatable, considering it's made in-house brand. They're not the lightest but it sure hell beats having shallow, alloy rims weighing as much as the 50mm carbon rims haha

Mountain Biker here - Polygon is very well known in the industry for their great value at entry-mid level. Ive really been scoping them out for an entry into road because my two hobbies, surfing and MTB are a struggle after it rains. They seem like they know their stuff and then for sure know how to penetrate a market. Id love to see you check out the Strattos from them, because it seems like an even more insane deal (albeit at bit less high end)

I have the Polygon Strattos SD8, endurance/climbing road bike with Ultegra set and I love it. It's not a well-known brand here in the US, so I bought it to be unique. It's not the bike it's the rider, not until you produce a PRO watt/kg output, then it could be the bike holding you back😂

  • @Canadian666

They are very dominant in Malaysia due to UCI pro team sponsorship, but their road bike sale network is basically absent elsewhere outside Southeast Asia. You may found their MTB in US/Canada sport chain’s bike department…..Their racing grade road bike are as good as other major brands though. However I truly prefer less people knowing the brand to avoid price hike…and yes they are quality carbon frame made in China.

Bought a Helios A9X (full Dura-Ace) from Bikes OnLine 2 weeks ago. Nice bike and a bargain for $7,500 (with Dura-Ace crank power meters).
    Good points -
    * Latest 12sp wireless group-set, good brakes, UCI frameset, paintwork is excellent, fantastic price, fast delivery.
    Not so good -
    * Saddle is a bit heavy (cr-moly rails)
    * Seat post slippage!! Found an alloy collar in the box to fix this - but it must have been a Polygon after-thought as it wasn't mentioned in the assembly instructions video.
    * Wheels are a bit on the heavy side but seem quite good quality.
    * 28mm Schwalbe tyres (tubeless ready) were very heavy at 350gms each (I mainly race crits so slipped on some 23mm Contis and saved 200 grams from my rotating mass).
    * I don't like the 11-34 cassette ratios (prefer closer ratios - it needs a 16 tooth sprocket and get rid of the 34).
    * Convoluted saddle bracket setup. One of the threaded holes in the cylinder that slides across the top of the seat-tube wasn't properly threaded. I had to run a M5 thread tap through it to fix the problem. Not a big issue for me, but it would be for someone without mechanical skills.
    * Tried to update the DI2 through the E-Tube app - a nightmare! Installation failed, wouldn't reset and then I couldn't change gears at all! Shimano web-site was hopeless; but found goods 'hacks' on the internet to get around this (thank goodness for You-Tube!).
    Overall -
    * It's really is a nice bike and great value.
    * Warning...It comes in a box and you really do need at least an average level of bike mechanical skills to put it together and to set up the DI2 (or have a friendly mechanic who could do it for you). Keep in mind that Canyon bikes at this spec level also come in a box...and cost twice as much!
    * If you have a warranty issue - you can't just drop it back to the bike shop around the corner! If it's only a minor problem and you have the skills to fix it, that's fine. But anything major and you have to pack it up and post it back to the supplier (what a hassle!). This is probably the main reason the bike is so cheap.
    Fless

During the covid era when bike components were in high demand, people in Indonesia would buy complete Polygon bikes just for the groupset because it’s cheaper than buying a groupset from scalpers. They would then assemble the groupset on a different bike frame (usually from more well known companies) and throw away or resell the Polygon frame.

I want to love those Vision bars. They were what came on my Bianchi. Mine came as 42 cm / 110 mm, though, and after a year and a half I want. to switch them for a 40 cm / 100 mm set, but that's a lot of spare change to drop to get your hands an inch closer together and a centimeter closer. If I do buy a new set, I'm putting the larger set on my gravel bike because that's too much money to let go to waste. Hope you got the size Neil recommended the first time on your bike.

      @CamNicholls  Рік тому +2

Ah, I know the pain. Similar issue with all bikes in my size coming with 172.5mm cranks. That is a major consideration for off the shelf bikes, they don't necessarily come with the right bars, cranks, and saddle. Although saddle is normally an easy fix. Yes, I did speak with Neill and he's happy with my decision on this one. Cheers,

A 8000 comes in at $6200 from 99 bikes and is backed by a large brand/local bike shop support. Better wheels and same groupset. Doesn’t come with one piece cockpit (arguably an advantage?) The 9000 comes with the exact same cockpit as the polygon.

Its not the same building a bike from scratch and buying a ready built one as the factories have a total different buy price on the parts.

@@RetiredAdventurers Out of the box, the only complaint I have was the wheelset, which was poorly made, I guess you have to save cost somewhere. Other than that it is quite an excellent all rounder bike, comparing it to my Willier GTR, I honestly can't tell which is better, but look wise, it does look sportier than the willier.
As for weight, after some upgrades, I managed to lower it to just under 7.7kg, with bottle cage & pedals. Which imo is quite good for a fully hydraulic disc bike. So I really can't agree with people arguing that disc brake bikes are heavy.

Both the Ultegra and 105 chains undergo a Sil-Tec low friction plating process that’s designed to make them run smoother and require less maintenance, as well as increasing the durability.
The only difference between them is that the 105 chain has this treatment on the roller link plates (the inner ones) only while the Ultegra chain (above) has it on the pin link plates (the outer ones) too.
