@@hillbillyrv well…. I have a Atwood 38535 thermostat for an Atwood 2334 dclp furnace so we bought the Dometic Kit with control box 3316230.700 but find out the AC control we have belongs to a Coleman , control box 8330b633 so I don’t think the new control box is compatible. I am beyond confused and frustrated. 😩
This video was a lifesaver! A friend was able to diagnose my AC issue but hadn't had time to return and install the board and thermostat. Using this video and one of your others with a drawing of the wiring diagram, I was able to change out and get my AC up and running in about an hour. I followed this video step by step pausing video to complete each step and everything worked perfectly the first time. Thank you again and keep making videos!
That's great. Glad We could help you Whitney.
Do you remember which video had the drawing of the wiring diagram?
Thanks in advance
Thank you for explaining and showing how to upgrade to the digital control from the analog control. I watched the video showing about all the different wires first. And then found this video which walked me thru the process. I got it hooked up, and it works. Thank you!
Awesome. Glad I could help.
New to the RVing. I had just bought a used 1998 Dodge Phoenix RV Van with a Duo Term Dometic Air Conditioner installed on top. The previous owner passed away & his widow was selling the camper. The previous owner had taken the inside cover for the A/C down to replace the 2 air filters & had for some reason disconnected the control box. All the parts were still in the Dodge when I got it, but had no real idea how to get it back together. Thanks to your video. I now have a much better idea. Thanx for posting.
Glad I could help Phil.
Thanks so much just hook my up today. Was wondering where the instructions were.
No instructions. Don't figure
Thanks again Alan
Thank you for making this video. I was at a loss switching out my analog t-stat and control box to digital. I was able to figure it out with the help from your video. Now I have ice cold AC in my RV :-)
Great Texas pinball. Glad I could help. I hope you remembered to subscribe and all that jazz. Thanks
Very informative video. Plainly spoken and explained. Thank you. I have to replace one this weekend.. Compressor is Staying on by itself.. Bad relays. Please keep sharing videos
Thanks James. Good luck !!!
You saved me $900. You are the man. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video
You are welcome.
Very helpful video. You are right about no instructions. After watching your video I feel good about doing it. Thanks
You are welcome. glad it helped
Thank you, that was a great video!. I bought my new box as a plug & play & you’re video saved the day!!! Very easy to follow, thanks again
Cool. Glad it helped Denver.
My brother has one of these and the compressor runs all the time the breaker is on. Replaced thermostat (analog). Same problem. Compressor runs even with cool wire removed from thermostat. Any suggestions. Loved this video and impressed how you worked over your head so long.
Thank you for this informative walk through! Diagnosed and installed, almost on the first try. Make sure to completely plug in the thermostat cable and if the furnace doesn't lite, switch the leads in the control box. Interestingly, the install revealed pinched wires to the furnace from a roof repair by a "professional".
Glad you enjoyed it.
Great video! I appreciate the help!
You are welcome.
Great videos. Thanks
Awesome thanks got my ac running now, thank you very much! This was my first time lol 👍👍👍

Great video easy to follow. Thanks
You are welcome Paul

Glad I could help.
Thanks for the videos. They were both a great help.
Glad I could help
Thank you so much for this, I really needed help and this did it
Cool
Very helpful. Thank you again.
No problem
Thanks for the guidance, I would like to see you do a video on how the signal moves through the thermostat to the control box, my guess is it senses a different mv value for each desired function.
Thanks again
The only thing I can say about that is "it's magic", because I have no idea how that works.
What did you do with the blue furnace wires that you put terminals on? Thanks great video
Does the power supply feed need to have his own power source apart from the AC unit?
I'm stuck have the same Dometic unit you were working on but when I jumper the 115 AC voltage to the fan speeds and comp still nothing...is the unit bad or what would you check next
I removed my coleman-mach ac and t-stat after it had it's third leak and replaced it with my Dometic Duo Therm AC and thermostat that was working perfectly from another RV. I connected the five wires from the wall to the Dometic t-stat but at the ceiling only 4 wires emerge. There is no red wire. That's my first problem. My second problem is in addition to the 2 blue wires coming out of the control box, I also have a two wires, blue/black and a white/green hanging down. Soooo, after watching your video TWICE, I think my best option is to use the existing t-stat wires, and simply upgrade from analog to digital. What do you think?
You are still missing some important wires. 12 volt positive and ground. Coleman gets these at the T-stat and Dometic gets them at the control box.
I purchased a 'used' RV and discovered a toggle switch hanging down from the AC vent cover, seems the previous owner was quoted a replacement AC cost for a bad controller issue (compressor always on). I changed the controller to a digital unit and purchased the CT thermostat, regretted ever since. Most new thermostats are programmable but Dometic digital CT is not and is not compatible with any third party thermostats that are, if I had stayed with the analog I might have been able to use a programmable thermostat I replace my furnace thermostat with.
We live and we learn. Right?
I have a..????...u didn't say any Thang how the heater work off the new box
Works great.
I have changed mine out the problem I'm having is when it get to temperature when turns off the fan will go off but the compressor will no go off I have to turn off the braker for it to go off then turn the braker back on. Before I changed it over that was what it been doing. So changing it over did not fix my problem so now not to sure just what it could be
That's a good one Phillip. All of the controls and relays are in the control box, so I don't know what it could be either.
Ok thank you
Nice video
Thanks Bart
Your video was really helpful. Unfortunately after doing everything we find the fan remains on until we turn it off at the thermostat even after the air conditioner has reached the thermostat setting
Sorry about the slow response. I have been backpacking for the last week and just got back to civilization. The fan should cycle on and off if you toggle the fan to AU (automatic) on the thermostat.
All Seasons Mobile RV Service thanks very much. Yes, it was a matter of learning how to use the thermostat 😀
I am glad the video was helpful. I feel like I could have done a better job on this video, but I am learning everyday. Don't forget to subscribe and share with you friends. Thanks again
I just did the exact same swap and also replaced the upper unit with a brisk air ll. I got the a/c running fine but I couldn’t find a wiring diagram showing which wires to hook up to for the furnace. Seems I have 4 wires to choose from. Red, 2 whites, & a black. I guess I’m gonna have to plug & play. I just hope I don’t fry the control box. Thanks for your video. I was hoping I would find my answer in it but I couldn’t see which wires you used for the furnace.
Usually the furnace wires are separate from the T Stat wires. Look for 2 to 3 wires in a cable all by their selves. When you find the ones that you think are the right ones, just touch them together. The furnace fan should start within 10-15 seconds. I hope this helps
The 2 wires you are looking for would have been hooked to the 2 blue wires on your old control box.
Thanks. I’ll try that. The 4 wires I’m talking about aren’t in the t-stat bundle. They are thicker gauge wires. I’m pretty sure it’s the red and white ones. They were connected to the blue wires. Does it matter which plugs go where on the control box?
Does it matter which port to hook the wires to on the control box?
The 2 connectors on the control box for the furnace? No they will work either way. The safest thing to do is twist the 2 wires that you think go to the furnace together and see if the furnace starts.
what gauge wire is ran for 12V Power & Negative from fuse panel to control box on A/C Unit if putting in a thermostat for the first time ???? I hoped I could use 18 gauge Thermostat wire and didn't have to run anything larger .?
The factory usually uses 12-14 ga
Great video so i cut my main breaker off did not test my a/c voltage and assumed it was off got a nice spark when taking it out of module. Everything else was disconnected from module when it happened. I cut all power off at the campsite breaker. And wired the a/c power back to module cut power on my furnace works but ac will not come on any ideas. I only have a cheap multimeter 7 function not sure if I can use it to test the ac voltage to see if it’s getting power.
The spark was from the AC power or DC? You say the furnace works so I can only assume that the DC power is ok. Do you hear clicks in the control module when you turn T Stat to air conditioner? If so, it is some problem with the AC power. A cheap meter is all most people need. You will just have to figure out where you are losing power.
Here Kitty Kitty Kitty😂😂
Thanks for the vid, hate these new digital devices, after owning many trailers, the latest two with this crap system has been nothing but a head ache. My latest trailer with a Dometic system has no high speed on the AC, was working fine the night before, fired it up next morning, hardly any air blowing, cool, but not enough air. So I called Dometic they sent me brand new setup free, I put the new thermostat on the wall, nothing. I then went up and replaced the capacitor on the AC, have yet to fire it up to see if it works, if not then it's in the control box which Dometic sent me also. Will head over in the morning to my storage spot with my generator to see if the AC will work with new Capacitor. After watching your vid, now I'm thinking the box.
I hope you got it figured out timmy tool. My computer has been in the shop since last week. just got it back today and saw your comment. Yes probably control box.
@@hillbillyrv good to know, still haven't had a chance to check it out, now that it's cooler here in AZ my laziness has kicked in!
I know this is an old video, buy you wouldn't remember what the digital setup you replaced the old box with do you?
Single zone Dometic control with thermostat.
@hillbillyrv thank you for reply...yes the 1 I have now is 3104998 and it's analog and obsolete.... i was wondering if you remembered the replacement model number
@@williamvanhouten194 Go to www.hillbillyrv.net and go to my Amazon store. I have a white and a black one in there.
Buen Trabajo , te puedo preguntar una pregunta ?
Is there power coming out of the control box to the Communication wires
I have no power coming out
Never had a reason to check that, but it is a communication wire, so I doubt that it would have 12 volt dc. It would probably be using sine waves to communicate back and forth. Totally not sure about that, though. Apparently it didn't work when you hooked it up? What part didn't work?
blue is ground on most rv and white is furnace
ok
Well... I changed out control box and screwed something up because it arcd ... and I guess I toasted it. I only have 3 sets of wires to the box ... the thermostats wires... the compressor wires and the main 110 wires .. white, black, ground. I hooked the wires off the box in with the main power wires... is there supposed to be a separate power supply for the wires coming off the side of the box red black... can I not connect them to the main power wires in (white black)
Doesn’t sound like you took out a Dometic analog control to replace it with digital. I have no idea what you have done. I have several videos on this subject, but I don’t think they pertain to your situation.
@hillbillyrv it was a duo therm 3104998.. which is obsolete. Called dometic who owns duo therm and they said the digital replacement was the 3316230 that you suggested on your Amazon site. The only power supply I had available was the main line in. So I connected the plug Ina wires off the side of the control box with the main power supply. When I set the breaker it sparked.
@@hillbillyrv pretty much was told because I connected the 12v wires to the 110 supply
i got a duo- therm 57915.522c1 looks same as yours inside camper, want to change mine to digital but dont know what kit i need. my compressor kicks on and off even when it is shut off only was to stop it is the breaker. from what i have gathered it is relay in that box so need to change it. any help would be great.
Not real sure about the .522 part of the model number. You might want to check with Dometic to verify the correct part number for your application.
i got the kit i needed for my camper and just wanted to say thanks for this video. i hooked it up while watching your video and everything works as it should. couldnt of did it with out your video. thanks alot
@@hollyloper3503 Great...You are welcome
I have an Analog 3308448.004 unit but not sure what kit to buy. Can you help me?
You will have to contact Dometic to get that info. That is what I would have to do too.
What if ur furnace power doesn’t go to the control box but straight to the thermostat
Then use the thermostat that the furnace is already hooked to.
@@hillbillyrv unfortunately it’s not communicating with the control box I am upgrading to digital because I got a new unit and the compressor continues to run after it’s cycle I can’t leave it running unsupervised basically and I have that 3 wire thermostat I’m not sure how to wire the current one with the 3 wire set up once the control box is changed over
Think this would work on my Duo Therm Model number 57915.541??? I could not really get a good look at all the t-state wires you hooked up but you did that on the inside? From photos of this part it looks like it has connections on the side for some pins but I have a mess of wires like yours.
That model number is not real familiar to me. Is that an Air Conditioner only or is it a heat pump or does it have a heat strip? If you now have an single zone analog T-Stat it is obsolete and if it is not working then it will have to be replaced with a digital one, but you have to get the correct one for your AC. Have you called Dometic or your local dealer to get correct part number for digital T-Stat? I hope this helps and please don't forget to subscribe if you haven't already.
All Seasons Mobile RV Service it’s not a heat pump and does not have a heat strip. There is a gas furnace that works off the same thermostat
@@sjhanksaz It should be 3316230.000 for a white one and 3316230.014 for black. When you get the T-stat, call me during normal business hours Eastern Time Zone and I'll answer any questions you have about the install 304-254-9363
I followed the video... but can I connect my rv to 15amp circuit to test or is that not enough to turn everything on? I tried I quickly and the thermo lit up.. toggled fine... but ac or fan did not turn on.
Sure you can test AC on 15 amp, it is just not recommended to let it run for a long time. 30-40 minutes is fine.
@@hillbillyrv I got everything done and it works like a charm. Without the video it would have taken me a significantly longer time to figure out and finish lol.
Thanks.
@@veloxversutusvigilans4133 Awesome.
I replaced this module and I'm getting an E1 code on thermostat which says module and thermostat are not communicating. I have change several colors of wires thinking the wire may be broke somewhere . Is there a reset method or did I get a bad module ?
I got a bad one once, so it does happen. Thanks Sandra. I love it when you ladies fix stuff. Almost 10 percent of my subscribers are women. YAY !!!
Thank you , great video
Did you solve this issue?
I got a Dometic Pinguin two and during installation I touch the thermostat wires together saw slight spark now it seems as though I can’t get power to my thermostat do I need a new control board?
I don't know. Never made that mistake before. Pull the cover off of the control board and make sure there are no fusses first.
@@hillbillyrv Pulled the cover off and no fuses
@@DavidSmith-be2pn Probably time for another control board then. Next time, leave the connector off until all the connections are made.
Thank you very much sir have a great weekend I’ll get a hold of Dometic tomorrow morning
my ac is not connected to the thermostat. how do i get it connected?
I don't understand. How did it get disconnected?
How do I put in the new temperature sensor in the coils? Does the coils kinda look like a radiator for a car? I’m trying to do this myself.
Thanks for watching Wendy. Yes it does look like a car radiator. Dometic says to insert it about 1.5 inches from the bottom. Just push it in at about a 45 degree downward angle. Good luck
@@hillbillyrv does it go all the way in? The first part of it is flat so I’m thinking that’s the part that needs to go in. I just didn’t want to mess anything up. Thanks for responding back

do you have to change the control box if you just want to upgrade to a digital thermostat?
Yes. You will find those in my Amazon link in the show notes of my newer videos.
Hello sir I have a domestic on a duo therm and has done the same stopped working but my thermostate is remote and have no wires I can jump out and fan and all will run.what is your suggestions for this
Sorry, I don't know what to tell you.
1999 model. Do I have to install a new digital thermostat and box or can I still use my analog system since everything plugs right in? It still doesn't blow cold air.
Cindy. You cannot mix and match. If you change any part to digital, you have to change it all. No cooling might not be a problem with the controls. Watch my video on checking Freon level in AC
I'm converting from an old analog Coleman to the Dometic Brisk Air II. I already have the ceiling mount and the unit but have found that wiring is not compatible. Will the analog to digital conversion kit complete the conversion. If so which kit will I need to order. Great video!
You are correct. The wiring is not compatible. save yourself a whole lot of grief and stay with coleman controls. That would be like installing Ford parts on your Chevrolet.
@@hillbillyrv Thank you for the input. I've got the new Brisk Air II already to replace the Coleman AC unit. I also have the new ceiling mount. I guess I wasn't clear on my question. Do I need to purchase the analog to digital conversion kit or is there a pigtail adaptor to go from the old coleman controller to the new Dometic plug?
You have a lot of rewiring to do. The coach is wired completely different for Coleman or dometic. You pretty much have to start from scratch. It would be MUCH easier to put a coleman back on the RV.
I also don't have a furnace in my rv at all, it was removed so do I have to hook up the furnace to the tstat for it to work?
No
Hey Hillbilly RV! Great video for transitioning from Analog to Digital. I have liked and subscribed! Anyway, I am in need of doing the same with my 2009 Passport...but have a question for you. I have the Analog part #: 3107541.009 which is obsolete. Part #: 3313189.015 (black) replaced the old analog, also obsolete. Part #: 33162230.014 (black) replaced the previous part # and is ALSO obsolete. So from my research, the most current replacement numbers are : 3316400.013 (bluetooth) and 3316230.714 (non-bluetooth). My question is, am I following these part numbers correctly and will either bluetooth or non-bluetooth work for my application? I think the most confusing thing is following the changing part numbers. A local (LARGE) camping outlet does not know anything about upgrades/replacements as you show in this great video saying the entire AC system needs replaced...it's unreal. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
I am not similar with the blue tooth one at all and I haven't ordered any of these for a while. So the 33162230.014 is obsolete? That's news to me. I just checked Domestic's website 3316230.714 is out of stock. I see white ones on amazon, but no black.
@@hillbillyrv I just wanted to follow-up to this thread for you and any other followers with similar questions... as of the date of my question (6/11/2022), the best replacement part # for the analog is the digital part # 3316230.714. As per Dometic customer service, 3316230.714 is the current available unit as a replacement and the Bluetooth option is no longer being manufactured due to connectivity issues as well as low demand for those units. I am placing my order today and will update with any findings if necessary. Thanks again for the video and input!
I have a 2004 coachman 5th wheel camper with 2 AC units, the rear Thermostat has the furnace on it. Both units and furnace work but thermostats are not accurate and hard to control the temp. Can I change just the Thermostats to digital without changing the control box or do they need to be replaced together? Both Duo-Therm by Dometic and i would like to go digital.
You have to change control boxes and T-stats if you want to go digital.
I have 2 yellow wires coming from ac above I don't know what they connect to?! Help 🤯

I apologize that it took so long for me to answer. That AC model number doesn't come up on Dometic's website, but the 10 button T-stat is a multizone. If you have the correct AC, the control box will be inside the unit. It will need 12dc and 110 volt ac and a communication wire from AC to T-Stat. This video does not pertain to your application at all.
No worries. I know it's a busy time of yr. I do belive we have found that its a bad ac unit.

I wired everything correctly according to diagrams. when powered up, the thermostat did not light up. Any ideas?
Check DC power and ground at T-stat. If none found go to the other end and check it.
Could this fix a condition where your AC ices up, you turn the AC and fan off, but the compressor still runs?
It freezes up and the compressor continues to run after you cut it off? Wow !! Changing the control and T-Stat should defiantly help with the compressor running all the time and it might help with the freezing up too. Let me know if it fixes everything.
Fixed the compressor issue. Everything shuts off when you tell it too. Thanks for the video that helped us through the change. We will update about the freeze issue after we test more.
What tool was you using?
Drill, wire strippers, screwdriver, flash light ????
Ok I hope I get the verbiage correct... 2010 keystone. A/C started surging at the camp site. But has not done it again. Now when the units fan stops blowing the compressor (I think) keeps humming. Then after a few minutes it will stop. Then cycle again. The AC blows cold. Also if you turn the thermostat to the off position the compressor will keep humming. Also.. when the furnace turns on the compressor will still keep humming. I changed the capacitor and it still does the same problem but not as a hard humming sound. Do I need to change out the computer board / thermostat that you show in this video?? And if so what on Amazon do I need to look up. Style number?
Yes I would change the board and t-stat. It should be part number 3316230.000 for a white one and 3316230.014 for black.

Pull the 2 wires with the spade connectors off of the new control box and connect them together (you might have to get creative here) If the furnace runs, you might have a bad control box. If the furnace doesn't run. there might be problem with the wiring or a problem with the furnace.

All the wires on new control box harness are marked. Then pic 3 colors from there to the T-Stat. Any colors, your choice.
One of them has to be a ground for T-Stat (again any color) hook it in with 12DC- and then hook
One wire goes onto Pos to T-Stat and the other one is communication. I hope this helps. Please don't forget to subscribe. thanks.
@@hillbillyrv ok when hooking up to the actual tstat on the wall do the colors matter?
I'll try this when I get home tonight. Thank you for replying
@@TJsVette yes. They are marked on T-stat. They have to match your connections at the control board.
@@hillbillyrv ooooohhhh i think i know now where I messed up at haha.

So you have an email, I can send a question. And a video on a 2010 keystone. A/C question? Thanks
Or you could just ask it here and then other people might benefit too. Thanks William
Question. I have a 2019 Forest River Wildwood w a Dometic AC unit, this weekend we used the camper and cut the generator off with AC running. When we turned the generator back on the AC would no longer cool. Fan works in H/L, thermostat control lights as normal. Any idea what I could check to see why it doesn’t cool?
People unplug the shore cords all the time while AC is running. I don't like to see people do that, but I have never seen it cause a problem with the AC. Turning gen off would seem to me to be just like having a power failure while AC is on. Don't know what to tell you. Sorry
Great video, sir! I am doing new application into an enclosed trailer, no floor furnace.
I have a Dometic rooftop Air Distribution Box 3314851.000 unit
A/C model 457915
I have an add-in heat strip 3314998.000 to put into ADB unit
I would like to control with the thermostat I purchased and replace manual knobs.
The ADB, Heat Strip, thermostat, and control unit do not seem to all match up.
The manuals provided and online are limited and I cannot get Dometic to communicate.
Will the below thermostat and control unit control the A/C and Heat Strip in the 3314851.000?
I have a wall-mounted thermostat
3316410.700
I have a control unit to replace manual control knobs
3313191.000
Any help, from anyone, would be greatly appreciated. I have a feeling I bought the wrong combo of parts?
Thank you!
You need Digital control for the heat strip.
3316230.014 black
3316232.000 white
That includes the proper T-Stat too. Hope this helps.
I'm looking to do something similar except on a older system. Do you know of a more compact control unit i could use to retrofit an old Coleman Mach EL?
You have to use Coleman controls on Coleman AC and it has to be compatible. I would contact Coleman before I made any changes to make sure what you want to do will work.
Great content! thanks
Glad you liked it!
My trailer setup has only 1 wire with the 4 colors at the control box, but has 2 at the thermostat. I don’t have a wire to connect the supply +12v and supply -12v for ground to at the control box. Any suggestions?
This video is for ducted Dometic AC with a wall thermostat. Sounds like yours is something else.
@@hillbillyrv my trailer is ducted with a wall thermostat. I think I just figured out that one of the two wires at the thermostat goes to the furnace while the other goes the the AC unit. Still don’t have a wire for supply power though :/
@@trystangoodman3559 Is it a dometic or another brand?
@@hillbillyrv it’s a Dometic brisk 2 Air. The new thermostat that I have is the same as yours in the video as well. The old thermostat and AC unit was a Dometic Duo-therm.
@@trystangoodman3559 Are you changing the AC from a different brand? If so the camper could be wired different.
