Ms. Jakara, I took my TEAS yesterday and I just want to give you a massive virtual thank-you hug (with consent) for all your efforts in helping students pass the TEAS!! I am not kidding when I say I had 12 days to study for my test. And math was my highest score (97%) all because of you! I binge watched all your videos, I never opened my TEAS Guide book because I know I didn't have enough time to read through everything. I just used that book for practice tests and timed myself. Hey, I was referred from Texas Health School to prepare me for my TEAS and I can say, this is the best virtual math tutoring I’ve ever done. I do have one situation, after I solve the equation and I get my answer, I understand that sometimes I would have to simplify my answer afterwards and I’m having the hardest time simplifying or reducing the answer. How do I do that? For example, the mixed fraction 3 3/5+ 2 1/3...the answer I got was 19/15 but how did you simplify? I tried to figure it out but couldn’t understand. The same thing with the last equation for multiplying 3 fractions, how do I simplify 11/8? I do believe if I get the concept better for simplifying my answers if applicable, I would be more comfortable and confident with fractions. However, I can say I’m definitely not scared of fractions anymore or math at all. I just have a few hiccups I need to practice. Anyways, GOD BLESS YOU GIRL!! Thanks to you, I think I’ll be ready for LVN classes now, math was the only reason I was scared to go to nursing school. Thank you thank you THANK YOU!

Hey, Ms. Jakara what page of the book can you find this practice? sometimes I go on IXL to practice what you teach me and it took a while to find the right topic and link it with IXL it's adding fractions with unlike denominators lol funny thing is it's under fourth-grade work. I just wanted to say that after watching this video, I literally knocked out this whole section in 1 day. 160 problems done and you have instilled the love of fractions in me. You explained the steps so easily that I am no longer afraid to face these sort of problems on the Teas exam. Thank you so much for these videos and your work book!!!!

I can't agree less your way of explaining is really good. i love how at the end of each section your summarize the whole thing that helps alot thank you very much.
I'm not sure which problem you're referencing in particular, but normally if I recommend reducing by 2 it's because both of the values are even. This helps if someone has a hard time reducing with larger numbers.
For 24/54 I noticed that when dividing 54 by 2 to reduce, the smallest whole number given is 27… as I continue driving by 2 I’m getting decimals. That method don’t work for this one sadly. Guess it’s a hit or miss.
When you're reducing the purpose is to make the numbers as small as possible without decimals. You can only reduce even numbers by 2, so once you get to 12/27 you have to find a number that you can divide evenly into both of those..l..in this case it would be 3 which leaves you with 4/9

If any kids are watching this video, DO NOT USE THIS METHOD when you're first learning how to work with fractions. If you try to add more than 2 fractions, or try to use it when you start learning prealgebra, you will be lost. This trick should only be used by grown ups who need a quick review or shortcut to pass this test.
