Damn! You guys nail it! Done Bill Chase proud. One of my favorites from the 70s! Thanks for a great rendition! Outstanding vocals, too! Ain't an easy one to belt out! The whole band kills! Everyone looks like they're having a blast - how can you not playing or listening to this number? Thanks you so much!
You know what really blows my mind when I see this band is that there are two women blowing fire in the trumpet section. I know there are lots of fantastic women trumpeters, but you don't usually see them screaming and playing blazing lip trills. Awesome!
@oldiesfan52 guys PLEASE, no need to be rude. I have been out of town performing and unable to keep up with questions. You have the name of the band correct, but the lead singer is Matt Phairas. I'm the trumpet player up front playin' high stuff. Some of the other musicians here are: Anne King - Lead Trumpet, Cece Worrall - Rubin, Saxophone, Slammin' Sammy k - Drums and Jerry Scott on Guitar. Please look them up. Amazing people. Rex Merriweather
One of the greatest bands I've ever heard - and the singer just adds to the intensity of the band. WOW!!!!!! The entire band makes one stand up and take notice!! Congratulations on having a group that really works!!!!
One of the best screetcher's I've ever heard! I have a signed "Bill Chase" album from a concert at UNI just before he died in the crash. My trumpet teacher was sooooooo pissed that I had the same range as Bill Chase and did nothing with it! Now I surely wish I would've! This man was better than Clifford Brown! Luvs to all you screetchers out there!
Great version of a great song. We also played this in high school marching band in the 70's, and the stands were rocking!!! Mr. Merriweather, if your group ever plays the east coast, you have to plan a gig for the Atlanta Ga, or better yet, Birmingham Al.
Very nicely done and this band has the blessing of Linda Chase and some of the Chase alums. I appreciate you all keeping Bill's music alive in such a wonderful fashion. God bless!
Rex is one of the best front personalities I've ever seen. And as much as I have loved the Chase version for 35 years I like this arrangement and lead singer even better.Another amazing thing is the recording is Rex on all the trumpet parts-I've got the cd.
Extraordinary! Look at those guys and gals joined in brass magic. This defines "timeless" -- without the 70s visuals, this sound could be from anytime between the swing era 40s and now. Bill Chase... there's an artist who left us way too young. One just has to look at those happy musicians in their wild abandon, to imagine the kind of orchestra he'd be touring today, and the music they'd be playing.
Bill Chase really didn't know how big or how special this song was gonna be. To the extent that people in bands of all shapes and forms WORLDwide wanted to emulate him so much. They just wanted to be a part of him and his music. Wow what an arrangement. Your not gonna find great bands or music like that now a days. Just try. I'm so lucky to be a part of that time when music then is being used now to remind us of how Good we actually had it. If you like this? Try" LightHouse" 1971.
That was insane! It looks like everyone in the room is feelin' it which adds to the coolness of the vid. My kids don't know what the song is about but we keep playing it over and over again. Thanks for posting it!
DAMN...!!! Other than the variation in the organ solo...., that was ALMOST sounded "just like" the original!!! AWESOME job!!! I would REALLY like to hear this "same" line up do this again, BUT play it just like the original (shorty solo section and more CHASE-like energy!!!
Darned fine cover of the original. I'm impressed and I've been playing trumpet for about 51 years now, so I'm not easily impressed anymore. Nice to see a group that can be more than a mediocre imitation of Chase. Good job, everyone.
Very Awsome reproduction Guys. Great Job! BC would be impressed I'm sure. You carry with you all of B Chase's dreams. Carrying out what he never got to finish. Now, you can carry on his legacy. You have TO! I for one would like to see and hear More. I'm sure all of us agree. We'd pay to hear all that good music. Challenge: How bout trying "One fine morning".
Wow! This gonna go worldwide. '70's A treasure to anyone that has played and loves real music. Try and replicated "One fine morning" by Lighthouse now.
WOW, Chase would of been Proud. They have IT. I know I come from that Time when every band that was serious enough to make it Big. Meant you had to play "Get It On" or at least sound very close to it. This just Beautiful music. This is my kind of MUsic The brass section was always the jewel of any band. Lot have tried. Lots have failed too. I was the drummer in my band. I am so proud and glad there are still Great people that know what Great Bands R supposed to sound like.
Man Alive! You guys sound great! Haven't heard anything this refreshing since the early '70s. If you want exposure in the SE, please send me a video and I'll personally deliver it to Ted Skorman - T Skorman Productions. Regardless, I'm sure I'll be seeing more of you!
If more pop music of today (i know some is good but most is horrid) had even a small fraction of the talent demanding, energy, and musicality that this song and band have I'd actually listen to radio in the car and not just CD's...
Well Im out here in Los Angeles, Ca. and I defintely want to check these cats out "live" !!! Hit me up as soon as it is known where & when they are playing, please!!! Thank you!!!
i'm 15, i'm africian american, and i play this on alto sax in my 3rd period jazz band class :D
From 1972 until 1982 this was Shattuck High School's second school song! I have played it a thousand times!
Oh, my! That was damn fine! Rivals Bill Chase and Co for a gorgeous, fat brass choir sound. Very sweet, gang! Thanks a tonne!

Awesome version of the Chase classic! Cheers all around!!!

That double C was flawless

GREAT interpretation!! Thanks for the big grin and the flashback to the 70s!!! Ah, to be young and in jazz ensemble again!
barely 20 seconds into it, and my trumpet is so flat cause my jaw just dropped. great version of this song :)
Great version of a great song. We also played this in high school marching band in the 70's, and the stands were rocking!!! Mr. Merriweather, if your group ever plays the east coast, you have to plan a gig for the Atlanta Ga, or better yet, Birmingham Al.
I LOVE this song,I played this in my Jr.High school jazz band back in the late 70's.
This is one of my favorite sungs. We played this in my high school band in 96
Very nicely done and this band has the blessing of Linda Chase and some of the Chase alums. I appreciate you all keeping Bill's music alive in such a wonderful fashion. God bless!

Most excellent from top to bottom. The arrangement, lead trumpet, vocals, sax solo, everything, very nice.

I live in southern california and I can't wait for the end of football season so I can see this outstanding band play live.
ladies and gents, NICE!
I think ravicka is answering with 'no' it is not Bill Chase. It is an original recording from Rex Merriweather, inspired by Bill Chase.
Hell Yes!!!!!!!!
Rex Merriweather
Wow!
Does this FABULOUS group of musicians have a name? Also, who's the vocalist?
No.. Bill Chase and Band perished in a plane crash in the 70's I believe. This is a Bill Chase Chart however... one of his best!
Kick butt tune!

I think this would make Bill happy!!

Is the bass player having a good time or what? Hey Rex, coming to the east coast any time soon? Would love to see your band.
