I've looked at the Firebox Stove as another option to my collection of stoves. I came to the conclusion that it's not nearly as efficient as my other stoves, and that I had no use for it. That is, until I see you using it with your dutch oven. Now I have to have one! Thanks a lot! ;)
I'm camping with you... I cook camping like you do, I don't go to bed hungry. If the bear eats me he's getting a stuffed Hammock human burrito. Thanks for sharing. Great video.
Yes It is Jiffy brand corn bread mix that you buy in the grocery store. The video is about the versatility of the Firebox stove not my cooking skills or my grandmothers secret recipe. But I have to admit that I like Jiffy corn bread mix. Thanks
Great idea with the Dutch oven. I just got my Dutch ovens last year, and I am absolutely hooked on them. As for the fire box, I can't wait until mine comes in the mail. I've been checking them out for a while now, and think that I will enjoy it as much as the Dutch ovens. Gonna be perfect for ice fishing and camping. :) again, thanks for the ideas! Happy new year!!
Thats great. The dutch oven, cast iron pans and the firebox stove work very well together. I think you will enjoy the firebox stove a lot. I will be using my firebox stove ice fishing this year as well. Happy new year and thanks.
The missus likes to put in some creamed corn 'n chopped jalapeno in her cornbread batter. Might need to adjust water a bit...add that secondary. Older vid but thought I'd say ifn ya want to jazz it up a tad. ...we recently purchased a 2qt DO, and the thumbnail caught my eye. Dat bacon trick ~ So no warping/distortion from heating that so quickly over open flame?
Thx for your input on the Coleman oven! I was actually planning on getting one to try with the firebox. Looks like the Dutch oven works great! How long did ye cornbread take to cook?
About 15 minutes. But don't use as much heat as I did in the video , I was a little too hot, just back off on the heat a little and let the cast iron do the rest. Thanks
Yes the Firebox stove works great with cast iron, its like it was made for it. I did not time the cornbread, but I can tell you it cooks faster in a dutch oven. The key is very low heat. Thanks
Thanks for the Jiffy mix tip I will try it next time around. This is a USA made Lodge Logic 2 quart 8'' diameter with legs and a flanged lid to hold hot coals. So the inside is about 3'' deep and 8'' across. The one I have I got years ago in a hardware store in the White Mountains so I was able to hand pick it. Ebay has about 10-15 for sale or try Lodge Manufacturing Co. P.O.Box 380 South Pittsburg TN 37380. ( 423 ) 837-7181 Good luck and thanks
Wow, Great results! I can't wait to see what you come up with next.
