No, you’re absolutely right. I’ve been a tech since the days of the original Xbox and basically have all revisions down to what capacitors they used in each one memorized. This is 100% a launch model. Another fun fact about launch models, they all had Toshiba Samsung drives. If you ever pop open a Xenon with that trim and you find a hitachi drive, the trim or the drive was switched. 2006 is when they got Hitachi drives. Oddly I see yours has a BenQ VAD6038 so that tells me it’s a warranty console. Also, that would contribute as to why it’s still running. When Microsoft would repair drives on launch consoles that DIDN’T have the RROD, they reinforced both the CPU and GPU edges with epoxy.
Epoxy helped with preventing the RROD? Could you perhaps elaborate on that part, I always thought of it as the result of an internal issue within the CPU
@@bravefastrabbit770 it honestly didn’t, but Microsoft still put it on the outer edges of the CPU and GPU. What really fixed the RROD was when they revised to the Jasper boards that ran cooler. Going from 90nm chips to 60nm made the biggest difference.
i had one working that has this configuration... xenon+benq, in the back i could read 'service date' 2009-01-14 so makes sense that its a warranty console, i was wondering why this xenon in 2009!
@@sie7e yep! I’ve currently got a shelf full of phat 360’s and one of them is a zephyr with a 2011 service date. Popped it open and found it’s got a lite on drive. Also ended up with a completely untouched PAL Xenon as well. Not sure what I wanna do with that one.
The most likely reason for people to say that non-hdmi motherboard revisions of the 360 do not support 1080p is because at one point it was a kernel limitation not hardware, Before dashboard version 4532 the only supported resolution was 1080i.
Badass. I've got a Japanese launch 360 looking just like this one, with a manufacture date of November 11th 2005. I got it for $10 red ringed, but managed to get it running. It's actually in really clean condition, all things considered! It has the 2010 Kinect dashboard, which it would've been cool to have NXE or Blades but I'll take it. It seems that I have to reflow it again after maybe 5 or 6 times of turning it on which blows. At least I got to play through the entirety of route A in NieR Gestalt on it! I haven't tested it since December when it was working fine. Curious if it'll turn on next time lol
Тоже купил за 10$ с красным кольцом версию 2006 но я догадывался что эта модель xbox 360 не стартует без av и хозяину просто не удалось его проверить. Поэтому мне достался полностью рабочий xbox 360 даже на lt 3.0
Awesome! I just booted a factory sealed, brand new xenon 360 yesterday, video is on my channel of it running if you want to see it. Mine has a date of manufacture April 2006. Mine is so rare being brand new I took it apart before I booted it, had 14 caps replaced, put the upgraded heat sinks on it from later models that had a heat pipe for the gpu, and upgraded the thermal paste to the best I could find, and its working like a champ :)
16:30 This disc drawer problem is common when using the console but it is much simpler to solve than beating your video game. Changing the reader's rubber belt solves this problem, and it costs pennies.
Owner of a 2005 Xbox 360 launch model here, one that was actually refurbished by Gamestop at some point and had terrible work done to it. (Bolt mod to the heatsink + thermal paste replaced without removing the stock paste) Removed the bolt mod and replaced it with its regular X-clamps, also did a proper thermal paste replacement on it, aswell replacing the GPU heatsink with a newer one with the heatpipe on it, in the end it works fine and gets a occasional gaming session on it tough its mostly a collection system. (also owner of a 2006 xenon running blades and a 2008 Falcon wich is my go 2 system when it comes to playing xbox 360 games on original hardware)
Got this in my recommended after just turning on my falcon 360 and finding the ol RROD. It was a birthday present from my uncle, it and a huge box of games. Literally just got it last week, and the power cord a 5 days before writing this comment. I got to play it twice, and it was fucking awesome. Went to turn it on, realized it wasn’t booting, looked down and sure enough, those 3 lights were red and flashing. Such a shame
I have 2 launch consoles in my collection. 1 is a Japanese region with mfr: 11-03-2005 on dashboard 1888, its never been taken apart. It came with full auto, one of the launch titles, and the original controller. Even has a demo of hexic HD, they most likely touched it a few times and never played it again. The 2nd one is a 10-05-2005 xenon on dashboard 2255.The case is original, but it must've had a bad drive as it has a 2006 series drive and its missing the original hard drive, but it did come with the original controller. It works good though, i put fresh thermal paste. Unfortunately the holes for the case screws(long screws) broke off, these cases are deteriorating with time.
I have all motherboard revisions except Corona & Winchester but I love Xenon’s. Mainly for the rare early Hitachis & Samsung drives, and the Chrome HDD & side grilles with the OG Chrome Trim controller
nice, i have a december 2005 manufacture date u.s model myself. works fine & has metro ui, but it runs abnormally loud. edit: never red ringed before :)
Awesome console man. I wish I had one of these, especially The Xbox 360 Launch Team Console (Lime Green, Gray and White) with the controller. So bad ass man.
Sweet to see those still working, I got lucky, I got, well not a launch model but is a Xenon from 2006, off ebay in mint condition marked as untested, turns out is working as expected given is good condition, it also has the NXE dashboard
The blades dashboard i remember my brother had a 2007 model with the OG Dashboard back in 2007 when it was bought new that year but unfortunately the console got the rrod little over a year later last game we were playing on it was Guitar Hero 3 Legends of Rock back in 2008
The thing is that it’s only a true survivor IF the console still has the original silver warranty sticker intact. Lots of Xenons got new GPUs and resold by MS and you’ll know this if it has a square white sticker behind the faceplate. I’ve found many Xenons with newer GPU chips. It’s possible that this console had red ring before but put a better GPU in it lol
I agree with you on the tv's. I hate samsungs. I have an LG thin Q and a SONY Bravia XR and I will never go back to non OLED yes they're more expensive but I'm sure everyone will agree that OLED is better than QLED any day I mean SONY uses LG panels for God sakes because they're good! Nothing beats pixels that are turned off for blacks rather than pixels trying to make the color black. If you have the money, go LG or SONY.
@@arpwcos2011 what does it matter I meant the specific system in the video not the actual release date of the console as a whole. I'm well aware it was released November 22nd 2005 but a few systems have manufacture dates before that
The painted silver trim on the 360 lasted from November of 2005 to around February of 2006 give or take. I have a launch edition system from 2005. It was rebuilt by Microsoft in 2009, so it has a new non-defective GPU and newer model disk drive. Unfortunately I can't tell what its manufacture date is because the original sticker was removed and replaced with a service sticker, however the serial number still identifies it as a 2005 model.
I absolutely hated Xenon after my launch 360 was sent in its cardboard coffin for "repairs" because DVD's wouldnt load, games worked fine but when I got it back all they seemed to have done is reset the system to factory settings and DVD's still would load. So admitted defeat and left it as i played games fine but after just 4 months or so I got "the ring" after looking at all the horror stories online about the xenons I just threw the f'ing thing in the bin and bought a JTAG'ed Jasper (NOT RGH) and here I am years later still lov'in it... recently discovered a huge library of indie games online im trying out. The $1 Zombie Game anyone? lol
Put double taped soda caps underneath this model so the vents at the bottom can breathe. It's how I kept mine alive. However, I recently bought a slim because this model doesn't do hdmi and while it's a cool model and my first 360 it's annoying how it doesn't support hdmi. It also sounds loud like a vacum cleaner.
so i do have a 2005 360, but its got gray sides instead of dark silver. it still works great, but it will have the red ring of death when you first turn it on, so after about five minutes of it flashing, turn it off then back on again and itll work! still on the blades dashboard too. :D
I have one of these 360s sitting in my storage I don’t know if even works and my nephew has 2 in his bedroom but they are both 2009 models I think the one in my storage is probably a 2006 model would be interesting to see if it works if it still has the original dashboard depending on the last time it was ever used it guessing someone in my neighborhood was moving so they decided to throw it out so i picked it up a few years ago it doesn’t have the cords or the controller with it
I agree that those are launch models, However. I have seen dark silver 2008 HDMI serviced/refushbished unites that were opened directly from microsoft! :) Extremely rare though.
release date for uk was 2nd Dec 2005 mine is dated 19th December 2005 as i say silver seal still in place, id say mine is a true survivor, i have another early one but a bit later, i also have a release day 360S in gloss black and a release day xbox one with box and day one 2013 controller.
