This is my second of the walk of the morning where I explore some of the streets and neighborhoods of Avalon, the big town on Catalina. We start at the yacht club, past the Tuna Club and through the streets of town. The town was waking up but the ferry and cruise passengers hadn't arrived yet. There are some lovely island houses and hotels as we explore. It's a wonderful quiet treadmill walk. I hope you enjoy it. Let me know your thoughts in the comments. My Story: I'm a filmmaker by trade. In 2016, we sold our house to go traveling for the year in Europe. Since I couldn't work there, I decided to start another UA-cam Channel. I love walking as a way to explore and this was an easy thing to share. It got popular and I've continued. My goal is to share these treadmill travel videos to help your work out with virtual walks.

Santa Catalina Island is a rocky island off the coast of Southern California in the Gulf of Santa Catalina. The island name is often shortened to Catalina Island or just Catalina. The island is 22 mi (35 km) long and 8 mi (13 km) across at its greatest width. The island is located about 29 mi (47 km) south-southwest of Long Beach, California. The highest point on the island is Mount Orizaba (2,097 ft or 639 m). Geologically, Santa Catalina is part of the Channel Islands of California archipelago and lies within Los Angeles County. Catalina Island is the easternmost of the Channel Islands. Politically, Catalina Island is part of Los Angeles County in District 4. Most of the land on the island is unincorporated (governed by the county) with 90% of the population living in the city of Avalon.
Catalina was originally inhabited and used by many different Southern California Tribes, including the Tongva, who called the island Pimuu'nga or Pimu and referred to themselves as Pimugnans or Pimuvit. The first Europeans to arrive on Catalina claimed it for the Spanish Empire. Over the years, territorial claims to the island transferred it to Mexico and then to the United States. During this time, the island was sporadically used for smuggling, otter hunting, and gold digging, before successfully being developed into a tourist destination by chewing gum magnate William Wrigley Jr. beginning in the 1920s. Since the 1970s, most of the island has been administered by the Catalina Island Conservancy.
Its total population in the 2010 census was 4,096 people, 90 percent of whom live in the island's only incorporated city, Avalon. The second center of population is the unincorporated village of Two Harbors at the island's isthmus. Development also occurs at the smaller settlements of Rancho Escondido and Middle Ranch. The remaining population is scattered over the island between the two population centers.

I'm curious about the golf carts. They seem overtly noisy, and I agree with you that you'd expect more electric vehicles. Any signs of spring in Livingston yet? We got about an inch of snow today. Hi Kevin, that’s an interesting question. Hopefully one of the locals can answer that I have to imagine the island sees some significant storms out there. -H
Wrigleys also owned the Chi Cubs, Wrigley Field, Gum, etc. Cubs played spring ball on the island. Ronald Reagan was an announcer and traveled to the island with the team. One year he ferried to the mainland to meet w/Louella Parsons (popular gossip columnist) from his hometown of Dixon, IL. Also had a screen-test at Warner Brothers, met w/Jack Warner, and signed his first contract in Hollywood.
