LOL! I was thinking the same thing & wondering how much longer it will be before Morgan harvests the pigs. They seem to have be the easiest, most economical animals he's raised on the farm so far.
I hope he does pigs next year, perhaps higher up in his secret pasture, and that he also adds a small flock of turkey seasonally, but that is because I would like to see Morgan try to fatten both on acorns before he harvests.
@11matt11 - You and your family may well enjoy The Hollar Homestead channel (Meg was featured in one of Morgan's videos showing him her soap making techniques). Ben and Meg Hollar have been raising and self-butchering their pigs for about three years. Their two sows gave birth during the past week. The newest babies were in the most recent video (Friday). The other new piglets were featured in Tuesday's or Wednesday's video.
My pigs got scraps & freezer clean outs. Leftover pumpkins after Halloween. Upside the pumpkin seeds sprouted around the pen fence. I highly recommend giving pumpkins where you want a future patch.
It is exciting to see how the birds and pigs are growing. The work they are doing on the farm is wonderful! As for a sign to the upper pasture, how about "Entering Gold Shaw Highlands"
We think Pablo barn cat is experiencing over stimulation when he bites like that. Check out Jackson Galaxy, he has a UA-cam channel all about cats. As a "Dog Person" I have learned so much from him. Just a thought. Love the fat bottom girlz! Hope you have your pig whisperer on hand when you move them next time!
A couple of my cats in the past would do the bite-lick when they felt ticked about me having been gone too long. The bite was light punishment, with the lick confirming I was still wanted as their human.
I am completely surprised that you are able to leave those bins of food out in the open and nothing is coming in the night to eat/knock the cans down. The guard dogs are doing a fantastic job.
The opening still is hilarious, prim and proper Molly gallivanting with the ribald pigs. The hoop coup is going to need sturdier doors to keep the vagabonds out. Molly loves her Terminator son Toby - 800.
I love the project of piping the spring water to where you can use it. Once it's done you'll probably wonder why you didn't do it sooner. But it's good you decided to wait a bit. "My buddy Alfred" might decide he's tired of pulling you out of the mud.
On our ranch my mom had a "pet" pig and she was very clean, mud freaked her out she screamed when put in a muddy area, she hated other pigs but loved one of the dogs.
Your pigs have gotten so big and you have lost so much weight take care wow healthy pigs are these the one you’re going to eat you got some good pork, rinds, Chicharrón‘s, guacamole dip some chili Verde oh my God I could go on and on thank you for sharing
Here's a little story about Sookie the Beaver Retriever. Last month, we were in the backyard hanging out. She was doing her usual plowing through everything, checking to see if there were any new smells or something new to entertain herself with. I was doing cat chores & fussing over my plants. She started barking, growling, jumping around something I couldn't see in the pine & cedar shavings. To my amazement, this thing was a small fluffy bird feather! It obviously was a big deal to her, and then she ate it. Good thing I didn't get any baby chicks like I wanted to it would or could have turned out badly. She's a good-natured dog. I kinda think it was a first experience Freak out. She still eats feathers! As for this dream of her having chicken friends, let's just say the thought of her eating a chick nauseates me. Have a great weekend.. 🙋🏼♀️🐈🐕
🍜🌌You can get a rescue chicken pretty easily and get yourself a shock collar. They're not very bad they're just startling. They have less shocked than a triple a battery powered tens unit. Let your dog wear it for a while beforehand so that they don't associated with the shock. Then train them not to attack your chickens. If a dog is never seen a chicken before this works pretty well. Unless they have an incredibly high prey drive, but that's generally pretty obvious beforehand. I've had too many dogs and a lot of chickens.
I kills me how when Morgan was holding the two chickens for comparison they kept their heads in the same position regardless of how he moved their bodies 🤣😄
You could have made your pigs more friendly if you wanted, but I am not sure there's much point to that when you know they will get the chop. I remember as a kid the place I spent my time (kine an afterschool thing with chickens and all sorts of animals and you having your own plot where you had your little house and you could keep like a rabbit), got a pig to feed up to slaughter. It was a he(barrow, I assume) . It was a more or less public place where you could get in and after 6pm crawl the fence if you wanted. But some boys abused him and he bit one pretty badly in the knee. (They went into his pen). But I was always able to go in there and sit with him and pet him in his bed of straw. I wouldn't have been more than 13 so I am not sure I understood what would happen, otherwise I wouldn't have befriended him like that. I think the adults working at the place and had the responsibilities of maintaining it, were nervous cos he was getting to a size where they were not comfortable getting into a pen with an animal they never bothered to befriend. So they asked me, I remember changing his straw bed (where he did not shit btw lol) a few times. I would say pigs are not the BEST pets cos they are too intelligent and will try manipulate you. But he was nice and at least he had me as a friend in his short life.
Love to see the farm, flock, herd, and pigs. Hope to see even just 1 or 2 pigs come back next year and a couple of sheep. I wish I could move in next door and help double the size of the Flerd! You have so much raw pasture back in the woods. Enough to support many animals if managed carefully. That flooding around the spring can also be managed, by digging channels & ponds. There's a lot of potential on the farm while still maintaining wild areas.
Did anybody else notice when he was doing the chicken comparison how no matter how much he moved the white chicken around, its head remained stationary. It was amazing.
I'd say the piggies are eating delicious food these days, so many different taste, and all those glorious apples. So many projects with some maybe needing some extra guidance like setting up the spring. Abby looks like she is feeling up to a good run with you to where the cattle are hanging. Looks like all is well at Gold Shaw Farm, thanks Morgan for the update.
OMG Morgan... I haven't read your book, but I just imagined the story of Abby coming to the farm with Toby excitedly waiting to show her how to do her job, but finding her a chaotic annoyance, much how big brothers feel about their baby sisters.
I had a mini pig who was fully litter box trained. It wasnt hard either. I had wood chips in a plastic tub. When she pooped on the floor. I would pick it up, show it to her. Then throw it in her litter box. It wasn't long before she was going in her box full time. She even taught my puppy how to use the litter box.
Before they go to freezer camp, harden then off in last month with cracked corn. This will take a lot of fat off them. It really makes a big difference. An old farmer told us this and it really works.
Where im from in northern Michigan theres natural springs all over the place where they've added the spigots...many of them are just in random places in the country along the roadside and if u arent from there you'd have no idea there is this delicious water just flowing. Often times when were going from county to county (all u country folk know this is all the time) we stop and fill up our jugs or mugs w fresh spring water. Such a great thing to have access to. Especially in summer heat because it comes out so cold and delicious
They do get pushy and dangerous, there is a reason why, in the starting scene of The Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy falls in the pigpen that everyone panics and rushes to haul her out quick. People that have never owned pigs always think it is funny, but people who have owned pigs know that she was in real danger at that point.

I've loved that little white (HEN?!) chick since we saw her!! I really have been thinking and hoping it is a little henlet! The pigs have been awesome, and the work they've done has been really cool to see!! Maybe a sign or flag on the Upper Pasture with the GSF logo?
Good looking set of pigs though I think you can still get more work out of them if you move them down to where you want to open a pth to the new spring. They might clear you a path to the spring before you send them to freezer camp.
You can find a lot of information on the internet about riding an e-bike in snow, the right kind of tires, how much air to have in the tires, how to protect your battery from the cold temperatures, etc.

Hehe I love seeing the chicken head stabilize while you're moving them around and the little, unconscious chest scratchies
No wonder pork chops go so well with apple sauce!
LOL! I was thinking the same thing & wondering how much longer it will be before Morgan harvests the pigs. They seem to have be the easiest, most economical animals he's raised on the farm so far.
They also taste wonderful marinaded in apple juice or hard cider.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@kimberlym5988 That's a great idea!
😂🤣😂😂🤣
A small herd of goats would make easy work of all the undergrowth, plus they have personality off the charts 😊
He has said many times he doesn't want goats. Sheep maybe, goats no.
@@sjbockJust cause he says it, doesn't mean he really means it! 😂
And you can get milk from them, make soap and cheese from their milk, etc. Much better than sheep, imo.
I love goats we have a few. They are very entertaining, but very mischievous.
Geats will eat your trees in your permaculture orchard.
I really like those pigs. Will be sorry when they're gone. But, on a happy note, it's so nice to see Abby back on the cow pasture.
I hope he does pigs next year, perhaps higher up in his secret pasture, and that he also adds a small flock of turkey seasonally, but that is because I would like to see Morgan try to fatten both on acorns before he harvests.
Do you have any plans to cut back trees and expand your productive acres?
i loved watching your chickens heads stay in the same place as you moved them around while holding them in your hands.
Off to freezer camp got me laughing more than it perhaps should have.😅
I feel sad we may not get pigs next year. They've been wonderful to watch and my family has enjoyed learning about how they grow.

Thanks. I haven't watched them for a while. Baby pigs!!! Ya-hoo! They're so cute.
Love to watch their cooking shows & segments the most.
The pig sement was fun!
You've been prolific in your videos lately. It's a bonanza for us. Thank you.

Love the feeder shots with the birds “Makin’ it grain!”

I really wanna see the spots before and after the pigs are completely done!
I will also miss the piggies. No shame though just liked seeing them and seeing you work with them and how they helped with the food waste.
I like the bike rides up the hill and around the top through Highland heights all the way up to Chicken top.
for the gate in the upper pasture the first thing that came to mind was "Entering Cowlandia, home of cattle"
I love how when he is explaining about the chickens, the white chicken's head doesn't move from it's spot as it's body moves around. ❤❤❤
I never knew how much I needed to hear Hank Hill sing Low until I heard it
I am completely surprised that you are able to leave those bins of food out in the open and nothing is coming in the night to eat/knock the cans down. The guard dogs are doing a fantastic job.
Oh my GOODNESS! I VICARIOUSLY LIVE AND LAUGH THROUGH YOU MR MORGAN! GBYCS & TY❤
An idea for u when plan out their next spot. Put the food troughs closer to the fence. They're gonna get bigger and pushier.
yes and no, more yes then no
Morgan that mud area will make one awesome garden for the Misses !
It would! But she already has one. He rarely makes videos about it though
Seeing the pigs take in all the waste and excess is a nice feeling xDDD. Everything is being used >3
Wow, when he holds the chicken and moves it around, its head stays perfectly still! It looks so unreal, yet I know it's genuine. Mesmerizing to watch!
You and Your Farm keeps me happy after working my long days..
Thank You..💯🥰💯🥰💯🥰💯🥰💯🥰
I know it's hard to edit videos everyday ,so I want to take the time out to say thanks for making our day ❤
Put a American flag on top of the hill 🎉

Hi Morgan! Your upper pasture gate could have a "Gold Shaw Farm" Flag that says...Enter at your own risk - Highland Property 🐂😀
Hahaha my sister and I had a sign on our bedroom door that said enter at your own risk, when we were kids.
I’m glad it wasn’t a negative experience but a possibility for sometime added. Good luck with spring
Happy Birthday Toby dog 🎂❤️🎊🎉🎈 from California.
Hahaha😂. Just love you and your sense of humor Morgon. Will miss your piggies.😢. Love from New Zealand to you and Alison. ❤
The apple diet is going to help the taste of the meat tremendously good!

I think pigs are a great animal to keep having. They serve a good role ecologically, and their food is mostly leftovers from other processes.
Aloha bah 🤙🏾 I played this clip at 2x speed and was mo fun.
Manny Mahalos Morgan for your energy and observations.
Loved the music while the pigs were eating! Great videos, we love your channel.
as always great video❗ pure entertainment😂 those pigs are hungry‼
My neices are spending the weekend with me and they love watching all the animals of your farm. They laughed so hard at your apple bottom song❤❤❤
I think you will change your mind on raising pigs next year when you begin to enjoy the harvest of these three pigs this fall.
Great choice in music during the pasture chickens footage.
The piggy wiggles sure love applies!
Thank you for sharing! Really love your channel!
I hope you do a compilation of the piggies at the end of the season and talk about what went well and what didn't work
I kills me how when Morgan was holding the two chickens for comparison they kept their heads in the same position regardless of how he moved their bodies 🤣😄
watching your videos when you got only few subs! still love to watch you.
That Hank Hill song literally made my day 🤣🤣
even dorothy from "the wizard of oz," who was fearless, was afraid of the pigs.
I love how the two chicks' head stayed stabilized when you were holding them and doing gestures 🐥❤

And they are a great way to turn waste into product.

Finishing pigs Apples and Acorns enhances the flavour of the meat 👍🏾

Love the singing!
This is how my Dad fed his pigs, Well until he decided to get 200 of them and even then he had a deal with a few grocery stores.
That’s pretty good
Funny, when I kept pigs, they always went to the bathroom in one corner and were actually fairly clean. Must depend on the pig!
No!!! I’ve got the ear worm now!!😂❤ Apple bottom jeans with the boots with the furrr… 🎶
I think one of the fields ought to be called Golden Rod Acres seeing as there's so much of it growing up there. 😊❤😊❤😊
Has Morgan not heard the term pig stie to express something dirty. "Your room is a pig stie please clean it up"

there's no such thing as a mini pig. thanks for lying.
Pigs are extremely smart. I had a yorkshire sow that acted more like a dog than a pig. ❤️🐷
The song was epic lol! Haha! I really enjoyed this video! ❤

I wonder if the spent grains have the same effect?
why would you want to reduce the fat?
@@defeqel6537 Have you ever had bacon that's 90% fat? It sucks
@@MtnNerd the fat is great for frying though, the bacon I eat is generally about 30% fat by weight

Mrogan: just picks them up
I look forward to the first cooked ham & your comments on its tastiness.
Get one of them marker flags that the little kids put on their bicycles it’s on a fiberglass rod with a little flag on top. That’ll be perfect.❤❤
There were nice moments with the animals. I'm surprised that you won't get pigs next year. Your song was so funny, I don't know how you made it.
I love your sweatshirt!! Is it going to be available for merchandise??

It always amazes me how effortlessly and perfectly level chickens hold their heads when their bodies are jostled around! 🐔
Piggies looking GOOD!!
I had to laugh. "You get an apple and you get an apple....." reminded me of Oprah and her car givaway......
Your pigs doing good!
