  • I'm taking you to do afternoon chores today, tending to all the animals. I found a possible solution to our pig breeding problems and the cattle are settling in to their new winter quarters. I also spend a little time reviewing how we deal with watering the animals in freezing conditions.

Dear Pete, if the farm works, it’s because of all the efficiencies and planning that you did anticipating the needs of the livestock. A great deal of time and thought has gone into this and none of it is accidental. Your Sunday morning videos are special treat that I look so forward to. Fingers crossed with the vaccine that your pigs will start breeding again.

👍👍👍loved the drone footage! So relaxing watching the fields at rest for the winter, and just watching your interaction with your animals has a calming affect.
It’s refreshing to see that common sense hasn’t deserted all of society. Your methods of delivering water to your animals without high complicated technology, as you say keeping it simple!

Everyone develops a system that works for them. Yours is simplicity in action with contented animals. As I've aged my attitude leans toward "fancy doesn't pay the bills". We strive to have functional machinery and facilities without extravagance. Daily chores can be relaxing if things are set up so as not to be a struggle.

It's hard to beat Tractor Supplys dried pine shavings. Mighty convenient, they are dry and the price per bundle makes sense. Always seemed to me it was just common sense to start with dry bedding. Good illustration of cheapest versus best value decision. 😏
Best of luck with your inoculations. I'm pulling for a couple productive breeding sessions 👍
Sweet outro! I really like the drone footage. Great overview of the farm, great overview of the pastures and the woodlot. Looks like you have enough thinning/selective cutting to do in the woodlot to keep you in firewood for many years to come.

Love watching your videos, takes me back to growing up in Duchess Co and our small farm. Of course later I had horses and "road to hounds". I babysat all the officers, so I was able to hunt without a membership and could bring my girlfriends and Pony Club members. We had so much fun, walked the Hounds in the summer to teach them the way of a hunt, never caught a fox, they were too fast for us, but rode like the wind.
We had chickens too, 1000 white leghorns, my father would take the eggs to NYC were he worked and came home on the weekends. Later he took a job closer to home and we slowly stopped the chickens. I collected the eggs and hate it, they would peck at my 7 yrs old legs. We had 2 milk cows, some calves, pigs and large gardens. My friends always want to visit and see the animals and i made them work.
Thanks for giving me such pleasure watching you and Hilary doing your work.

Pete I’d really like to see a clock repair video. Back in the 60’s I had a great uncle who repaired clocks as a hobby. Every once in a while he would have one completely torn apart on my great grandparents dining room table. He was a machine repairman in one of the automotive factories. Had huge hands and fingers the size of sausages! It was amazing to see him do delicate work like that.

So deeply satisfying. You are the only channel I look forward to and prepare my breakfast for in anticipation of watching on the mornings you post a new video. Today's video was such a gem. Love the music you played as your drone meandered all over the lovely farm. Loved how you captured Ezra having a ball with a mouse. Love the way you showed the contented happiness of the cows in their new digs and the way Bossy, Brownie and Billy are getting another chance to do their thing. I am so hopeful with you and Hilary that things will go well with this new experiment. Nature can be so finicky at times, huh. Love the simple way you decided to treat your water issues. What a great idea. Funny how well common sense works and sticking to the simple way of doing things. Thank you for another wonderful video. Oh, and thank you for not minding that a chicken got out. lol She thought she got away with something, didn't she. :) It's ok to let them think that. It's good for them to get away with something every now and then. Keeps them happy and sticking around anyway, which is all that matters.
