I had issues with my twin mk2s..... everything cleared up when I replaced old nylon floats with new upright floats from burlings as the nylon ones had two different heights and you couldn't adjust them, also I replaced the plastic top cap with a brass on as cable adjusters pull through on the plastic threads 🇦🇺

Cliff you're a bluddy hooligan just like the rest of us lol. Exhaust sounds great and she seems quite responsive now too.
Now put it away and lets see some more xs650 action lol .

Enjoyed that, thanks. New 78 owner here peering down the rabbit hole. Unrelated comment, do you think it'd be safer to edit-out the location of your garage?

The answer to your Amal carb problem is simple, get the mrs to bake some cupcakes then take them over to Alan Millyard's house and he will tell you all you need to know :)

so have u stuck with the 210 mains and r u gonna go to a 3 1/2 slide, going to surrey cycles tommorrow to get some 210"s maybe some 3 1/2 slides do u tune the air srews to give the fastest idle i do this with a cylinder on its own take off other lead i get the stumbles u get grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr t140d reverse cone mega,2c3 set up cept 35 cold start jet.

The 210's are staying as they seem the best option at the moment, I tried the 3 1/2 slides today and the bike stumbled again but went like shit off a shovel LOL, it seems everything I'm doing to jet the bike is making the performance better and better but the stumble always stays, as for the air screws, I set at 1 1/2 turns out give or take a quarter of a turn, I don't do the fast idle adjusting, that never works and for me and messes everything up every time. The 3 1/2 slides would make it leaner so rather than hole pistons I will be going back to the 3's for now
Right I have also been doing some research on the Lucas coils that are made in India and have been getting a bad name, I run two 6v Lucas coils and the stumble could actually be one of those coils failing and giving a weak spark that gets flooded on accelerating but picks up when the revs increase, so I've ordered another two replacements to try out that should be here for Monday hopefully! We will beat this Gareth!

@@OldBiker ok ill stick with my 3 slides then, will give the 210"s a go,my carbs are a shit join at the airbox with the foam things on the bellmouth will see if i can loose the gaps somehow sticky back foam perhaps but thicker,i also have 74 t150v with 3 amals and thats fine ,had them re sleeved by 3d motorcycles(richard darby) and today i bought the tr7v on ebay the one with the green tank,n old mate off mine had the work done by srm when i lived in chesham so i know how mutch money he threw at it,the trispark has been junked kin rubbish troublesome systems they r ask any tripple owner, lets hope the single amal on that is glitch free,i wonder if the mk2 amals r harder to tune than the mk1!s,i am considering trying keihins on the trident p&m in west london sell shitloads off them, get it set up on the dyno properly fit and forget.not sure about the coils issue u think u might have, get some old ones genuine lucas not the modern repro shit made under licence in china .but im begining to think the problems r inherrent in the mk2"s ?

Bloody mK2s are a ball ache.
Got the same bike as you, although it has peashooters.
I'm looking for some better pipes. 👍

I think the best sounding pipes on these Triumphs are the BSA looking ones, two of my mates have them fitted to their bikes and they sound great! I have some Dunstall replicas that sound shit so dont get them lol

Not familiar with the MK2 carbs. My 77 T-140, had the original Amal concentric. They have a tendency to wear the slides or needles. The fact that they are made of pot-metal does' not help. I switched to Mikuni 34 mm, solved all my problems. The bike sounds bitchin, so you must have your carbs sorted out.

The shop manual for my 78 bonneville says that the stock settings for all the screws are 2 and a half turns out. Hope this helps
