Wow, what an excellent tutorial! I've never used Battery before today and your tutorial got me started right away. And it was very detailed but without sending me into brain fog mode. LOL!
Such a great tool. I got this as part of Komplete 12 and haven't used it yet. I use multiple DAWs so it makes sense to keep my kits in a VST rather than use a native tool like Impact XT or a native drum rack. Another good thing to know for Komplete owners is that if they don't have Machine, then they can use Battery to access their machine library packs that come with Komplete.
That was awesome, thanks. The beginning is super basic stuff, which some people definitely need, but from about the halfway point it gets into the meat that probably most people need but those basics at the start are still important to include. Awesome video, thanks a lot.
If it's meat you're looking for, I would check the 6-part series I did for Battery, here: ua-cam.com/play/PLvw8caaTyXjNtJXrq4L7L7fcSDIHxbzX3.html There's over 2 hours of instruction covering every aspect of Battery.
Great video! Is there a way to save just the cell/pad note assignments - say for a LaunchPad - so that when you open any kit, the cell/pad midi note assignments already mapped?
Thank You! Good guide for beginner! I have one question, is it possible to "copy" the midi-notes of the preview samples in my daw? I mean the samples that you hear when you go through the individual kits in the browser on the left side of battery.
Thank you for this compact overview. Is there a reason (benefit) why you don't use battery within Kontakt (with that useful preview feature) but as a standalone?
I actually do not own Kontakt. Also, I tend to use the drum machine in my DAW because it is more tightly integrated, as far as naming within the MIDI editor is concerned.
@@quantaaudio Ah, I was wrong. It's a Komplete Kontrol (not Kontakt) where you can load battery in and then preview also the kits without loading them...
Any reason why when I move a sample to a different pad, the pitch changes completely and can’t even be adjusted back to what it sounded like before moving pads?? This only happens on certain kits
Battery is MUCH more feature-rich than the stock drum samplers included with DAWs - accept for perhaps Groove Agent which is the Drum Machine included in Cubase. The one issue with Battery however, is that the integration with the MIDI editors in most DAWs is limited. For instance, you will not be able to see the names of your samples in the MIDI editors - Unless you add them manually.
in komplete kontrol im able to hear beats/melodies when demoing the patches, am i able to play the sound furtherest on the right to play as a melody opposed to a single note?
Hi, When I listen to previews in Battery they seem to be playing melodies with the synth samples. Could you tell me how to do this. There are some great sounds in Battery that I would like to actually play not just trigger. Thanks!
Exactly what I wanted. Wow! This may be a confusing question but what is your workflow when it comes to samples? I mean when you want a kick drum, for example, where do you look? Do you get your drum sounds from Battery 4 or somewhere else? I'm looking for smart and time-saving advice.
Whatever drum machine I am using I usually always use my own samples that I have acquired from various places. You can use the browser within Battery to search for your files as I show, here: ua-cam.com/video/PCFZaqmMOUc/v-deo.html
@@quantaaudio Thanks! I will view it. Is there a shortcut to building a good sample library? Knowing what you know today where would you go to look for samples? For example, would you start going through the samples that came with your DAW or is there a more effective and time-saving approach?
Is there something I can do to be able to play a certain sample in a certain key, (say the 808s and be able to play them in any key) without taking out the file and putting it in another vst ect.
Great video thanks. But I don't understand how I can sync the BPM to the DAW. Battery is a standalone app and no VST and I don't see any setting how to connect it.
Battery is both standalone and a VST. In the video I am using it as a VST in Studio One. Also, in the video I specifically state how to sync Battery with your DAW. Did you watch the video?
does anyone know how to make the midi note determine the length of the sample? therefore if you programme a 16th note you will listen to a smaller part of the sample than if you programme an 8th note? thanks in advance :)
If you import audio files that contain tempo information such as Rex files, Acid Wav files, etc., they will loop at the tempo set in the tempo control. Pressing the "Sync" button will make use of the tempo in your DAW is you're using Battery as a VST.
for searching your samples you have to scan all your library (takes ages) also when you scanned everything the plugin will became unusable cause too heavy and slow, every time you try to open the plugin window inside your daw takes like 10 seconds to open. PS: I have 300GB of samples
I'm using Pro tools and need help getting sound out of Batter 4. How do I route Battery into Pro Tools to get it to play? I know I need to put Battery on an instrument track then route it somehow, I guess. Please help someone.
When I press a key on my external device it only plays the sound in Battery for as long as I hold it (that's fine I gues). But how can I change the settings, so that when I press the sound in Battery it directly plays the whole AudioFile.... and also is it possible to trigger the selcted sound with your keyboard? I am using it in ableton and somehow the spacebar is only directed to ableton but not to Battery
On the "main" tab, you will see in the upper left corner a section labeled, "volume envelope". The "release" knob controls how long the sample will play back when you press and release, so, just turn that up... As for your second question, I'm assuming you mean your qwerty keyboard; I'm sure this can be done in Ableton, but I don't use that DAW so I'm not sure how you'd go about setting that up.
Sounds more like he's talking about "note on" vs "one shot" modes which are standard pad settings in any sampler (I don't have battery). Note-on will stop playing the sample as soon as the pad or key is released, one-shot will play the entire sample even after you release the pad or key.
The grid can be resized to a variety of options; from only 16 cells, all they way up to 128 cells. I'm not sure what the issue is, if the user has the option to define how many cells they'd like to work with...
But you don’t explain how to create a rhythm part. How do you actually USE battery? Thanks for the walk round of the main screen but this video fails to actually explain how to get a beat, loop, pattern etc out of Battery... so I still don’t know how it works. Is there a TR style grid to work with? Can’t find a thing, so how does it actually work in my mix?
There are 20+ DAWs out there that Battery can be used with to make beats/drum tracks. There's not way for me to show how to accomplish this in each one. I would do a youtube search for "creating drum track with battery *insert your DAW name here*"...I'm sure you'll find something that will help you out.
You actually cant its a vst plug like reason is now, So you need to use it inside a daw like Ableton or Cubase or fl, their is no actual setting to make a tune in it ! Or you can intergrade it to be used with mashine softwear and hardwear that would be best i would say both from same makers !

So I need maschine to play Battery? I only have m32 keyboard. Plus battery doesn’t show up in my plug in list on ableton
NIce work, a good overview - detailed

Thank you! I just wanted to know how to delete a cell and you answered that @ 7:40. I will probably watch the rest of the video though. Thank you.
Best video I have seen, so far. Thank you so much. Like stated below, no BS etc. I can see you're a S1 user, too. Kudos ;)
Appreciate it, thanks!
Great intro to battery thank you so much, I've had this for a while as I have Komplete 12, just not used it, never knew it could do so much

Great job. This basically teaches how to use battery. I went along with you as i watched and walla i know how to use battery. In to your next video

How can I play several notes of the same one shot?
Thanx. Great Video.

Great tutorial!
I click the Midi follow button but my ATOM still only plays one sample. Any help or ideas as to why?!
Great video! Very nicely done I was wondering is there a tap to enlarge the plugin on the screen I would appreciate the tip?
How do you use the default preset that plays when you preview the drumkit??? That's all I wanna know lol
Very helpful!
my drum loop sample wont sync to the project even though sync is switched on? what am i doing wrong? thanks

Great tutorial. I just started with battery 4, and I have a question, is there a way to find the key of the samples in the battery library?
whats the point of battery if i have maschine? what can i do with this that I can't do with maschine?
This is a great video and I'd ask to activate CC so that we can read instead of listen when preferred.
I don't know why UA-cams auto-generated english subtitles feature is not working for this video. I didn't disable anything in the settings.
Excellent walkthrough.Thanks. Do you go in depth in other tutorials?
