This interview is spot on. In today's American society, people are overwhelmed with debt just trying to survive. Keep a person in debt and you keep that person quiet. Most Americans aren't going to make waves and stand up for what's right when they are 1 paycheck away from loosing everything.
Yo Boo , people keep themselves in debt. Nobody forced you to give up on your education. Nobody can stop you from getting one now if you want one. Nobody is making you buy the iPhone or car with its associated payment plan. No one forces you to get that credit card and max it out. With very few exceptions, debt is a choice. But you are right, the debtor is slave to the lender. The good thing again, is even if you are in debt, there are ways to get out if you are willing to make some difficult choices

Capitalism, unregulated (such as it is in democratic socialism), is toxic. Full stop. It prioritizes profit over people -- profit becomes sacred, people become expendable.
They killed him just as he was about to start the Poor People's Campaign too. They let him talk about unity and brotherhood amongst white and black people but they would not tolerate him speaking out against the rich on behalf of the poor.
It was when MLK started thinking and articulating this, that it's not merely ideology but the capitalist system itself that perpetuates racism, that he became such a threat to the ruling class that he needed to be done away with.

I will say this. Our society has become obsessed with SELF IMAGE. Whether it be how they are portrayed on their precious facebook page, or spending 600 dollars a month on a car they don’t necessarily need, or whatever makes them FEEL better, the average person in our society feels they are entitled to some type of material satisfaction.
It’s very very easy to not go into debt or to easily recover from small amounts of debt. People don’t care enough if they’re in large amounts of debt.

Yep, something is wrong with unchecked capitalism.
Capitalism, unregulated (such as it is in democratic socialism), is toxic. Full stop. It prioritizes profit over people -- profit becomes sacred, people become expendable.
Something is wrong with capitalism that places profit above people.
They killed him just as he was about to start the Poor People's Campaign too. They let him talk about unity and brotherhood amongst white and black people but they would not tolerate him speaking out against the rich on behalf of the poor.

If you want to see “poor” go spend some time in the mid east.
Im not saying we are perfect, but capitalism and the way our economy is set up WORKS. Its up to the INDIVIDUAL to go get their piece of the pie.
That is why we probably lead the world in depression as well as violent crimes. People are indeed greedy, and feel that they need to be on top of the world in every aspect of life, instead of appreciating WHAT THEY ALREADY HAVE.

IKR, I'm in my mid 30's and when I'm clean shaven (like the host is) I look mid-late 20's (been even called "babyface" a few times)
Right??? I feel like it’s the clothes and hair styles.
Everybody looks old in 240p
1 word: DRUGS
@moz_boxing what does that have to do with how old you look. Im 28 and i look like im 20. I dont search the web all day looking for useless shit, i have better thing to do.
“Can’t get into power unless you think like that.” I like the interviewer. I wonder what happened to him. 🤔
Who was this interviewer? I like his style.
Bill Boggs
He was in Dave Chappelle's position as well.
Dave Chapelle got into Richard’s position. I follow your valid point but Richard created that spot
@@chemquests dick gregory,Redd Foxx
and cosby before him...so he didn't create anything just built on it.
He far exceeded Dave Chapelle
@@ikechukwuokoye6397 Since Dave is still alive it remains to be seen what awaits Dave.
@@mrsoshadabaadman nope Dave time has passed. He's still putting out classic stand ups and that's dope af. But his time of doing timeless movies is over and done with. I'd love to be proven wrong tho. Eddie, & Martin had his position for a good while. Kevin sort of has it now. For a short bit there Eddie Griffin had it, then lost it
The same issue still exists. In all walks of life especially in the corporate world.
Tell me the interviewer don't look like one of the Menendez brothers in the beginning.
Lmao. Holy crap. Spot on. Lol
Spot on Richard 2020 nothing changed......also shout out to the interviewer.
I miss Richard and that interview was the most REAL thing I've seen, ever.
Capitalism cut short this genius interview!
@@charlesgrey5607 "We'll be back right after this commercial break" -lol!
"Why mess around on TV where you have restrictions?"
"2 million dollars"
That's the capitalism he's talking about. Notice he didn't turn the 2 million down.
Just the simple assessment of life for a black person in the west. Perhaps not just black, but the poor as well... white & black. A sobering assessment indeed..!!
@smith lovy how? poverty is poverty, isn't it?
@smith lovy how come?
@smith lovy i understand that the poor in america have it better than the majority of the world's population. in which specific ways do poor black people suffer more than poor white people?
@smith lovy i'm well aware of the studies. i thought you were addressing the racial differences within the poor people of America. Wealth disparity doesn't seem to be an issue below the poverty line.
@@maxyoung4107 You don't get it, dude. The AA middle income in America is straight up poverty compared to the white middle class. Not to mention the fact that poor caucasian people still benefit from their privilege, and don't have to worry about race based discrimination.
When Richard first hit the small venues he was already a light at the end of the tunnel. I don't know how many folks here know or remember Kenny Bruce, but Richard was the followup from the black perspective. And it's true about comedians being an intelligent bread of human being. I often think wouldn't it be truly funny if comedians were the salvation of the human race. He is absolutely right about greed being a catalyst. I would add the other 7 Deadly Sins. Someone I read back when wrote: They have made the decission to make evil their good." I hope I got that right.
Richard Pryor-- one of the most brilliant minds of the century.
Anyone know who this interviewer is? Pryor is so clearly astute and ahead of his time here, but I expected that from him. This random interviewer is the same, calling out homophobia and racism in a genuine sincere way.
Bill Boggs
@@Cr00xY cheers man
Who’s the guy interviewing him? Is that the guy from Taxi?
no
Bill Boggs.
I've never understood why some people treat "Capitalism" like it's some sacred religion and to criticize it is blasphemy.
It is a religion. A myth to control the masses. If unchecked it can be dangerous for the people on the bottom of the totem poll.
Satevo - rich people because it serves them. Poor people because they fall for rich people’s propaganda. It has to be treated like religion because it cannot stand up to critical thought and scrutiny, and must be taken on blind faith. Blind faith and bogeymen.
There’s a reason America’s foreign policy since ww2 has been based around eradicating the threat of a good example.
I just absolutely love Richard and miss him terribly.😢😢😢
Bill Boggs survived an interview with Miles Davis, he can survive anything.

‘You cannot get into positions of power if you think like that. People that get into positions of executives, get in coz they act & think like the executives. They all come in with good intentions. But then that changes. And then it eats them up.’ A WORD 🙌🏾
The Richard Pryor Show really was just 4 episodes. It got an Emmy.
The cesspool got me 😂😂😂
I was a kid in this era, I feel like I missed out.
STOP calling folks MINORITIES!
They are PEOPLE
ala ska whats wrong with African American
It’s the American way to label everything
The term is usually used as context, which has nothing to do with nationality.
It's a distinction, .......not a label
@@micahatkins5286 I don't agree!
There is no context in being 'distinguished' as a minority.
It is demeaning to the whole, and favours condescension.
Time to kick that term to the curb!
PhflyDan1 ..... Can you give an example of when it’s used inappropriately? I, honestly, can’t think of a situation where “this” particular term is used improperly or disrespectfully.
Many years later this is so relevant. Don’t let yourself be complacent. Stand up, be proud and let’s together push for change.
It’s amazing how this was going on in the 1980s SIMULTANEOUSLY with kids like me being told racism was over and done with.

Richard was spittin.
"..and that separates people and they keep people separated and it keeps them from thinking about the real problem."
How did Richard Pryor´s balls fit in the studio?!?
Seriously though, -what he said there- to say the *truth* must have taken a LOT of courage.
The same way he fit them in your mouth.
@Joosie Jones
Maybe for the same reasons some black boys do...
ITS 2020 TS THE SAME
It’s always been the same. It will be approximately the same in another 50 years. Propaganda keeps the greedy people in power and the system the same.
Yup. Things have changed since then, some for the better -- but at the core (which is what he's talking about) it's essentially the same.
What a legend
My favorite movie, Brewsters Millions ! Richard was a pitcher and John candy was his catcher. Good movie to check out ,
I grew up with Pryor records. This was an absolutely perfect example of his heart and soul
Being honest we have Crony Capitalism, not Capitalism in this country.
Capitalism and racism can't be logically conflated in any way. What he's talking about is just powerful racist people. Capitalism is just a bystander.
Crony capitalism is the natural result of capitalism. There is no such thing as a truly free market.
“If people stopped hating each other, and started talking to each other, they would see the problem is greedy people.”
A short handed comment that says “Communism hasn’t been tried yet”.
That was spot on. Both of them. Great footage. Love and Peace yallzz!
Pryor explaining how capitalism and the US political system work. Nailed it.
Richard Pryor is spitting truths like he's been reading Marxist literature for the past three decades and has now found a way to condense it into comedy. You can't understate the genius of what he is doing here. He is sitting there, speaking about fundamental workings of power dynamics, challenging the idea of continuous progress under capitalist liberal democracy, long, looooooong before it became part of the leftist mainstream. And he is putting in the simplest terms for everyone to understand.
Rest in peace, goat.
The leftist mainstream perpetuates the exact issues he’s talking about
@@stayclassic2361 depends on your defnition of leftist mainstream

These guys were in their mid thirties during this interview? They look like they are in their late 40s.

Richard looked his age (especially if he shaved the stache), but yeah I was shocked the nerdy interviewer was only 30s. I thought 45 easy
This is the summation of this interview for you?.....stfu capitalistic bootlicking superficial ignorant fucktard😌
@@apriltwoods Chill, he was just making a point. I hate capitalism, but it is interesting how people seemed to age faster back then
Unregulated capitalism rewards exploitation over everything else. Division makes exploitation easier. Prejudice creates division. This services hegemony, as dominant economic systems have always done. Communism goes about it in a different way, and so did mercantilism under aristocracies.
And the solution is?
@@arcadiagreen150 A partial solution is social democracy. I believe that incorporating the scientific method into the decision making process of the executive branch, not just the evidence produced by the scientific method, will be a massive improvement on top of that.
@@nathanlevesque7812 while I dont believe that socialism will ever work. I think the biggest possible first step is to have term limits on senators. If a president can't serve more than 8 years. Then why can a senator serve unlimited term. The same old ideas with the same old adversaries. Everyone gets accustomed to who they hate and why they hate them, so they vote against each other based on principle rather than content.
Socialism in any form limits GDP dramatically, devastates industry, only makes the poor a little less poor while crippling manufacturing ability and by association, the ability to employ people. It has always been a failed experiment. Cuba, Russia, China, North Korea, Venezuela. Failed. Socialism also promotes a caste type system where the rich control everything and the poor have no opportunity to be rich. The reason why Putin almost refuses to be dethroned as "president" is because he knows his life will be at risk and his economic influence will no longer be able to protect his interests. Our constitution declares that you have the right to ACHIEVE life, liberty and the PURSUIT of happiness. It is everyone's right to try. Not everyones right to succeed. No one plants a seed and demands it to grow. Proper care is necessary for success. This line in the constitution was established long before the industrial revolution. Long before capitalism was a large scale economic juggernaut.
Capitalism creates nearly 17% of china's economy with exports. 17% of 1.3 billion people is 221,000,000 people. Just to put into perspective the scale of china and it world export capabilities. 13.6 trillion dollars of chinas GDP is from the United States. They rank second to the U.S. despite having nearly 1 BILLION more people than us. And Russia is 11th despite being the largest individual country on earth. Everyone is allowed to play in the game of life. But only those who plan and work hard actually win. Bernie sanders is a millionaire. I dont see even him giving that money back.
@@arcadiagreen150 You do know that social democracy is what countries such as Norway Finland have, and not ones like China right?
@@nathanlevesque7812 those countries operate under capitalism, with the guise of socialist government intervention on people of reduced worth. Its not a true opponent of capitalism. Its just capitalism wearing a fake mustache.
