I absolutely adore how innocently curious the Giant is!! This scene when he makes that little gasp after seeing the deer’s body and then his sadness learning about death. The giant is like a child growing up and maturing throughout the movie. He’s like a little kid for the first half of the movie lol
I'm pretty sure he was already grown up since he was built It's not really a surprise that damage to his neural circuitry, or whatever you call it reverts into a childlike state plus there's no telling how many years. If not centuries, he's been alive, he could still be the youngest out of all of his brothers, but still pretty d*** old
It was said on the IMDB that Brad Bird had a problem with _Bambi_ and was angry with the birds for singing happily right after Bambi's mother was killed because he was still feeling bad about it.
3:20 No doubt this is the Signature Edition version because after the Giant said to himself "Souls Don't Die", the scene panned up to the night sky before we start the other new scene of the Giant's dream scene.
correct! the dream scene adds a nice background to the giant's story, very nice detail on brad bird's part to add that scene in this version, although to be honest it's a bit out of tune with the rest of the movie because of the quality of the animation in that small scene.
Thank you for this. Currently writing a paper on Koerner and Fitzpatrick’s Family Communications Patterns Theory and how it applies to the iron giant. Love this movie so much❤
I'm pretty sure he would rather forget that. But sadly, by the time of the end of the movie, he sadly remembered all the lives he took that he was forced to he probably hates his creator more than ever for what he made him do. We don't even know if he's still alive, or what the hell he is, or the rest of those aliens. I call them the belligerent. Since they're so g****** hostile to every other species, I have a theory. They were part of a war that was so g** d*** bad and horrible that it makes every other human war.Looks like dodgeball in comparison That they literally did not want anything like that to happen again. So instead of waiting for wars to happen, they started wars, just so they could end them before any other species could make the first move. It's white giant and the rest of his kinder sent in before calling in the rest like locust, just so other species do not have the potential to further advance and rise against them. Hence why they are belligerent to other species, possibly xenophobic.Too.See nothin other species as pest Maybe giant and the others are called cleansersv However, this is just my take. We still don't know if these guys are still operating officially or not. We don't even know what these guys are really called or are other than robots, we don't even know that what or who their creators are They could be giants too for all we know, but thought it would be easier to make robots to be relied upon to boost their numbers because of robots that can repair themselves that organics can't, or at least not on the same pair of robots can and such so many answers left unanswered continues to scratch. My head and drives me crazy to this day.
It doesn't matter if they 'actually' do or don't. It's all of our own determining, and as such, it's in your hands how you take this world, and the life that makes it up. I don't think assuming any of it is 'to be known' is any semblance of an answer to any of it. You do and feel, in accordance to what feels right to you. It can be so simple.
I completely agree with you, this film is a children's film but it has layers to it that are not just appealing to children but to teenagers and adults too.

"It's bad to kill but it isn't bad to die"
That's one hell of a message to center your movie around.
Well, there's not much point in telling kids that death is bad and something to dread, since it's something that will happen no matter what.
It was said on the IMDB that Brad Bird had a problem with _Bambi_ and was angry with the birds for singing happily right after Bambi's mother was killed because he was still feeling bad about it.
It’s like a dark joke in a Sam raimi movie with how it instantly cuts to singing happy birds after something so horribly dark and depressing.
Interesting
That is really funny, I completely agree with him, I cried at Bambi's mother death.

cool! good way to connect that theory with the movie.
1:34 His memories almost return for the first time...

Every scene in this movie makes me cry lol
As a kid I always thought the hunters were Mario and Luigi lol
"its just a kids movie"
"A kids movie that taught kids about the wrongdoings of a gun and the simplicity of life and death."
@@AliJayCraftThat is what good children's films should do, good children's/family films should teach us about the importance of life and reality.
@@raine6813 Yeah exactly! That’s why this film is a masterpiece
Souls don't exist. It's all actually never okay.
You are an athiest then, well I believe in souls as souls are ghosts and I have seen various ghosts.

The Iron Giant is simply a masterpiece! This sequence always has me in tears. Devastating, but also uplifting as well. ❤🥹
It also won 9 Annie’s
