seems the same version comprised on The Live Adventures Of The Waterboys ( Pink Pop ) where Mike says " with Karl and Steve we were Ace back then " who knows?
Just the right amount of mysticism and Yeats... And water being a metaphor for whats next in life.. This album, Fisherman's blues and Van Morrisons Astral weeks.. Feel almost celestial. (they also do a cover of Vans "sweet thing" on FBs) Mike Scott's a bit of a "seer" imo..
I'm ever the optimist but 2016 gave me more blows than I ever thought possible, family passing away, splitting with a long term gf and my business getting harder....then.... I heard this song! Some songs come along when you need them and the lyrics hit a cord... "Trying to make the sense and you know you once held the key... That was the river now this is the sea...." I'll be back in 2017 and I'll tell you how the sea is....
Update: .... I'm in the estuary... and nearly there. It's been a slog, but the plan is still going to.... plan! More to follow in the months to come. If you're in the same position, keep paddling! It's worth it 😃
@@Morrisopolous your original post was from 4 years ago and I just stumbled on here now snd it says you just updated 12 hours ago. Amazing! I hear this song on occasion over the years, but a few weeks ago it was a time to hear it again and couldn’t stop, still haven’t, (but actually related to the sea, and a move, with a bunch of other huge things/themes). Glad you updated!
Wow, I must have twenty 1980's cassette bootlegs of this where Mike runs Spirit into the end of This Is The Sea, but this is the first You Tube visual post I have ever seen. Thanks for posting man.
Not even 3...just 2 chords and the truth! Fantastic writer is Mike Scott and imo this is the best line up
best line up the Waterboys ever had. Appearance at Glastonbury that year was stunning.
I was at this gig - they were amazing - after they did all their own stuff they asked the audience for requests - a special night in my life :-)

Boy, they were channeling something back then. This was just amazing.

How's the sea?
Morrisopolous Did you make it?
Every sea leads to more rivers and more seas…forever and ever

They save my Live. Right now ..
And he's a soulful man, is Wickham.
John Murphy would approve.
וואו וואו וואו
Soes anyone know if theres a copy of this with a better mix?....the guitar is lost in this one ....still amazing though
let’s be real glasto is over,we will never see anything like that again,
In this kind we never have a band as they. Today's bands are David Beckham with wife lipstick or The Killers fiting Hugo Boss clothes 😟
What a fucking taoist epic!
Taoist? Can I ask you what do you mean?
nice cheers
Amazing song but this live version misses too much
Yeah it feels flat
Vocals + snare + bass :D with some over gained sax & violin every now and then. Vocal performance saves it. :D
I'm sorry - bass movements also!
Poor sound mix, guitar is absent......key instrument in this song................sorry
so what?! it's the spirit, my friend!
@@Raffiyork Yes exactly, the spirit is the thing!!
@@lucasfabijancic7740 Agreed. I bet it would've sounded great if we were there! It seems there's something in the air!
Missing the point lord of my trousers
On further review, this is nothing but a pagan anthem?
