This song deserved to be a massive hit. Can't change the past, but I often wonder how well it would have been received. It deserves to be more well known.
never saw Carl beeing so much a Frontman, i love this Guy, he is such a Important Part of Madness. Carl is Barefoot till 2:00 the suddenly got shoes on.... anyone realised?
Great to keep finding Lost Performances by them & I'll Include "I'll Compete" on Saturday Live in 1986 in that Category!, IMO!, they are underrated in the Meaning/serious Songs which they are Brilliant at!, we all know that they are Brilliant at Knees up type records but at times they appear awkward/embarrassed by performing more Message based Material but they shouldn't!, The Specials did a Lot of Serious Songs with Social Messages & Paul Weller has built a Career on it!.
No Surprise to Debate about who is on Keyboards as around this time James Mackie, Steve Nieve and Paul Carrack all filled in on Keyboards for Madness!.
The 7" mix of this is on the One Better Day 12". This really should have been the follow up to The Sun & Rain. They seemed to lose their momentum at the start of 84, Mike leaving was a major blow they never recovered from. I really liked the direction the band were taking with Keep Moving. Shame it all started to full apart from here on in commercially.
Can anyone solve the curious case of Chas's shoes in this clip? Watch as one minute he is wearing shoes, and then instantly he has bare feet. Is there some nutty editing going on here?
Good tune, should've been a single. Suggs needn't have got out of bed for this one. Can see why there were rumours about him leaving the band around this period too - no vocals in this and hardly seen in the Michael Caine video
Ian Wilson that is what make great albums great, that every song is really good, Suggs is worth being there does good backing vocals and those movements! Keep Moving is a really good 80's album that does not sound dated
+Robert Gomez No it's not Jerry Dammers. It's James Mackie who used to be in the The Selecter. James toured with Madness in 1984 as their keyboardplayer.
Madness obviously intended this as a single, even though 'performed' in it's 'Keep Moving' version. Should of been a 'Double A' with 'One Better Day' instead of being passed over. Carl was definitely the leader of the band once Barson had departed and the band split too soon for me as I still thought they had plenty of ideas, though maybe too many ideas!
Suggs doesn’t seem to know quite what to do with himself. Didn’t they last minute pull this track from being the second single of the album because Suggs didn’t want two successive single releases to be lead-sung by Carl?

I realize it only now, that the main solo is sang by Chas. The quality is horrible, but thank you, it's a rarity.

ritchyfox It was more than likely taken from an earlier take. It's quite common for a few takes to be shot when filming a promo video.

"One Better Day" would have been a very nice third single. Those responsible should hang their heads in shame... I won't mention any names
