i leaned more from you than my entire time in college.
thanks
love and clear cut video... still relevant
Thanks for share your knowledge!!
At the end of this video you show us how to do the same thing with a custom task.. which is effectively the same thing. What I'm trying to understand is why you would want to do that? Why have two application install nodes? Is it so you can still pick and install apps during the task sequence but then also have some force installed?
Old video but very useful. Thank you :-)
this is helpful, I'll put my 3rd party apps (chrome, Firefox, acrobat DC, Java) in a bundle and just push that. much easier.
question though, I realize you've got some Lenovo set up. how do you source and manage your drivers? I currently use thinkvantage update retriever, download the updates per machine type model, export from tvur and then import into MDT.
file structure would be Windows 8.1 > x64 > ThinkPad W541 (20EF).
+SoulJah876 great eye on the Lenovo within my MDT. I'm finishing up a video on dealing with Lenovo models and drivers and will be pushing the video out this weekend.
+BTNHD I've since edited my ZTIGather.wsf script to further pull a LenovoModel variable using a WMI Version query from Win32_ComputerSystemProduct which gives results like "ThinkCentre M73" and then I concatenate that with the Machine Type Model i.e. 10B6 to coincide with my file structure ThinkCentre M73 (10B6).
Still looking out for that driver management video.
+SoulJah876 Seems like I found the video. :)
appreciate the video! Been looking into this as we typically use a thick images currently. this could be a better way for us. Are you by chance going to MS Ignite conference this year?
+bubdrum I wish I was going to Microsoft Ignite, but I was invited or have the funds to go this year. Are you heading over there?
yeah I will be heading there this year. It is pricey, but my employer will be covering the cost so thank God for that. Otherwise I wouldnt be able to afford that trip.
I was wondering, do you have a video on best practices using the windows update feature in the task sequences? I would like to be able to update my image from the wsus during deployment.
+Jessie S Hmmmm... No I do not have a video on that one, but I added it to my to do list. Once I'm done doing this Lenovo with different models deployment video for you guys I will start working on the Windows updates and TS vid.
I can't wait for that Lenovo one. Thanks!
How would you install an application that requires an answer file. As an example I have an application that after installing it asks for the server name, ok, finish. let me know please.
you have to find out if the application command switch allows for inf or ini file to be pushed to it during installation. If the application does take an ini or inf or "answer file" on a command line you need to figure out what commands it needs to answer the question during the installation.
Yikes, any examples. Ty
Let's take Adobe Reader - to run this program you have to use the following command:
msiexec /i LANG_LIST=en_US TRANSFORMS="1033.mst" /qb
The TRANSFORMS="1033.mst" is the file that contains the answers to the installation and it looks like this:
[Product]
msi=AcroRead.msi
Languages=1033;1036;1034
1033=English (United States)
1036=French (France)
1034=Spanish (Traditional Sort)
CmdLine=TRANSFORMS="AcroRead.mst"
PATCH=AdbeRdrUpd940_mui_cum.mspBut each program is different. This is how Adobe Reader will use its "Answer file". Hope this help, happy deploying!!
How do you change the install squence of apps? By naming then 1,2,3 etc?
