Two-time Academy Award®--winner Emma Thompson and fellow double Oscar®-winner Tom Hanks top line Disney's "Saving Mr. Banks," inspired by the extraordinary, untold story of how Disney's classic "Mary Poppins" made it to the screen.
When Walt Disney's daughters begged him to make a movie of their favorite book, P.L. Travers' "Mary Poppins," he made them a promise-one that he didn't realize would take 20 years to keep. In his quest to obtain the rights, Walt comes up against a curmudgeonly, uncompromising writer who has absolutely no intention of letting her beloved magical nanny get mauled by the Hollywood machine. But, as the books stop selling and money grows short, Travers reluctantly agrees to go to Los Angeles to hear Disney's plans for the adaptation.
For those two short weeks in 1961, Walt Disney pulls out all the stops. Armed with imaginative storyboards and chirpy songs from the talented Sherman brothers, Walt launches an all-out onslaught on P.L. Travers, but the prickly author doesn't budge. He soon begins to watch helplessly as Travers becomes increasingly immovable and the rights begin to move further away from his grasp.
It is only when he reaches into his own childhood that Walt discovers the truth about the ghosts that haunt her, and together they set Mary Poppins free to ultimately make one of the most endearing films in cinematic history. - Фільми й анімація
I was afraid they'd make Disney some kind of benevolent god with this movie, but I think Hanks gets him pretty close to reality.
He's slick and manipulative and kind of vain, but also sincere about his dream.
William Craig and he smokes and swears
pipboy344 but NEVER in front of his fans :) like any good showman / businessman
William Craig, I got the sense he was a bit desperate to get the movie made as he promise to make it and he knows he has got long left.
Paladin Boyd Well Florida Project was in production in Orlando around same time.
Atleast the groundwork was down.
@Justin Christopher "Human" is the best way to describe Walt Disney as he is many things: a visionary, a heavy smoker, a man of imagination, a terrible cartoonist, a man who believes in world harmony, an anti-Commie, an American patriot, an autocrat, magnanimous to friends, slightly dislikes his cartoon artists since 1941, values the input of others, really hates his company (if you knew the history of Disney Imagineering)...
Walt actually didn't want to be called "Mister" at all. He said "We only got one mister here at the studios and it's our lawyer"
Im not the only one who think Tom Hanks is great as Walt Disney right?
*****
I don't know why people don't appreciate Tom Hank's portrayal of Walt Disney!!!!
*****
No one can perfectly portray Walt Disney, or anyone else that lived!! The mustache is definitely something you don't wanna complain about!!!!
I would like to see some lifestory-movie of Walt Disney played by Tom Hanks.
Zerathoriel
If they do that, it will be pretty soon that the movie is in production, as Tom Hanks is aging. Plus, not every moment you see Walt Disney will be portrayed by Tom Hanks.
Definitely got Walts mannerisms down with the deliberate coughing he used to do in another room before seeing people to clear his throat
I would really like to see another movie with Tom Hanks as Walt Disney. Maybe a movie about Walt Disney's career?
Young Walt could be played by Ryan Gosling. Then the Internet would break again...
Maybe a Walt before Mickey sequel.
Just thinking that
I'm now imagining John Slattery as middle-aged Walt.
Maybe a movie about Disneyland?
"Well, here you are. At last. You can't imagine how excited I am to finally meet you."
I love is how his first words reflect your own thoughts at finally meeting *him*, Walt Disney! I almost cried!
Tom Hanks is an absolutely remarkable Walt Disney.
who'd have thought that Tom Hanks would go from Woody to Walt Disney
Everyone who watch his work
Andy Kim, i saw Tom Hanks as Woody and Walt Disney when i was a kid. I kinda thought Hanks was more amazing Walt Disney. Not that he's bad as Woody but i just feel Hanks has more of an opportunity to have his acting talent shine on camera.
and Later Mr Rogers in A wonderful day in the neighbourhood.
@@JosephRailwayStudios2000 and then Colonel Tom Parker in Elvis
I love the energy you feel the second he enters the room
That would be down to the ridiculously over the top music
"And here you are. I could just eat you up"
"... Well that would be inappropriate"
When I first heard that Tom Hanks was going to be Disney I kept thinking, "Oh brother, you're getting Woody? Not that there's anything wrong with that, but if he speaks all I'm going to hear is Woody - he can't disguise his voice or his personality." When the trailer and the movie finally did show up, I was surprised to not only recognize him, but feel like I was watching Walt Disney rather than Tom Hanks. You're awesome!
When actors are really good you completely forget they are real people, they really become the characters xD
Emma Thompson has always been my favorite, but this movie just confirms that fact... such an amazing actress!! Thumbs up if you agree!! :D
I just realized, with the same voice and moustache, he would just keep reminding me of the conductor from Polar Express

The more research I do on Walt Disney, the more I question those bizarre conspiracy theories about him. Sure he was manipulative and shrewd, but he was very sincere in his passion and dreams.
While Most people would have been absolutely Honored and Elated to meet and work for Walt Disney,P.L Travers is quite possibly the only person in history who didn't have those exact feelings.
LOL!! Tom Hanks got the cough down. He defenetely knows the part very well. :)
I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with Walt Disney, as a person. Why is the cough important?
Dylan Parker An animator who use to work under Walt Disney was the GOH at a convention I went to and he said that everytime before Walt enters a room, he coughs loudly due to his bad habit of smoking. Like a warning sign that "Man is in the forest".
JohnStripedfur bad what?
Dylan Parker bad habit. Walt Disney smoked a lot.
@@Elaini.Young24Walt was a heavy smoker and developed a persistent cough in his later life. The rest of the employees knew he was coming whenever they heard that cough.
When I heard about this casting choice, I thought upon seeing the film I'd be taken out of it because I would just see Hanks as Disney--you know how that is, some actors, no matter how hard they try, always come across as themselves playing a part rather than becoming the character. But when this scene began and he entered, I literally got child-like chills in the theater: "Look! It's Walt Disney! THE Walt Disney!" That feeling stayed with me through the entire film, especially when Walt had his heart-to-heart with Mrs. Travers later and told her about his childhood abuse, which I hadn't known about before. Tom Hanks did an excellent job in the role.
I saw this last night and I can't stop thinking about it. One of the best movies of the year.
All I can say is if Tom Hanks is the best portrayal of Walt Disney I don’t know else.
It feels ironic how he work for Disney company to play its character and work play as its founder.
Captain Amelia from Treasure Planet meets Woody from Toy Story (Franchise).
*Fun Fact: Emma Thompson and Tom Hanks voiced those two characters*
What I would give to see Tom Hanks play Walt Disney again.
Every time I see Kathy Baker there at 0:54, I keep saying she should have played Walt's wife.
I think an absolutely perfect idea for the Walt Disney Studios would be to Make a Live action Film based on the life and legacy of Walt Disney from 1901 to 1966 and cast Tom Hanks once again to play Walt Disney as an adult.
That coughing you hear at 0:23 unfortunately was what Disney had when alive.
Walt Disney was an infamous heavy smoker and it lead to his death in 1966 of lung cancer.
I can remember seeing this at the movies and just grinning ear to ear as soon as Tom Hanks appeared and music started. As far as I was concerned I was watching Walt Disney himself!
WOW. They even got his entrance cough right!
He coughed whenever he entered a room to let everyone know the boss was in.
later on it would be because of his lung cancer........
I like how they incorporated Disney’s cough before he enters, a practice he did in reality to let people know he was around
Looking forward to finally seeing this tomorrow.
Tom Hanks have now played two characters in which he is related to: Walt Disney and Mr Rogers
Wonder what other historical figure/person/celebrity from our childhood will he play next? Caroll Spinney (the man that originated Sesame Street's Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch)?
Sean Horace Maybe Bob Ross? 😂
I'm so excited for this movie!! At first I didn't know it was about Walt Disney, but now that I know I am so going to watch it!! ^.^
They should make a new movie of Walt Disney
I agree.
@@hopetesla2551 thank you
I saw this movie amazing
Walt Disney meets Barones
Great the best Actor of the world Tom Hanks playing the man who founded the best film company for all age's in the world and he's trying to make a film based on his daughters favourite books every on screen for us all to see it and when, I watch the Mary Poppins film man it was an enjoyable sing a long rock enjoyment. Also Disney is a thing to get really into a lot of a great way of business as well. But with Tom Hanks around Disney films will always succeed.
Don't get me wrong, I love Tom Hanks and I think he's a marvelous actor, and talk to alot of people who say when they see him in this film they don't see Tom Hanks they see Walt Disney. I'm gonna have to disagree though, when I see this movie I don't see Disney I see Tom Hanks. However, to be fair, he does the business man of Walt excellently but he fails to bring to life the childlike side of Walt that was so inspiring and magical.
SonOfOdin I agree, I also look at him and I see Tom Hanks, not Walt Disney. But, not for the same reason as you. It's because Tom Hanks is so iconic, his face and voice so recognizable, that it's hard to remember he's supposed to be Walt Disney in this movie.
Can Tom Hanks just be Walt Disney for the rest of his life.
To me, Tom Hanks is just like Walt Disney!
No one is like Walt Disney
Alec Clark Actually, Tom Hanks is the "new" Walt Disney. (Don't mind to ask...)
He is a spitting image
Walt Disney was the kind of man who believed that optimism is everything. It’s better to have a Disney day to keep the gloomies away I always say.
Nanny McPhee as Mrs. Pl Travers
Sheriff Woody as Walt Disney
West Wing Character as the script writer
I’m disappointed in Walt Disney Pictures and Warner Bros Pictures for not at the very least announcing biopics of their respective founders to celebrate their 100th anniversary this year. I would have paid good money to see Tom Hanks play Walt Disney again.
I miss Disney animateds movies
cool
😁😁😁😀😀😀
I honestly think the real Walt Disney was a little thinner and had a more rougher voice than Tom Hanks' portrayal here.
And more racist and hateful than portrayed here.
Victor Victorson don't say bullshits, Walt was a wonderful man
Seems like the pictures of him at around that time show him to be about the same size as Tom Hanks in the movie.
Victor Victorson Lemme guess you wanna cancel Walt Disney too.....
Francesco Brosolo Walt Disney was a product of his time but that’s no reason to try and cancel him.
You have no clue what it's like to be the other side
What is up with that score
Ridiculously over the top for the setting
What was that coughing?
That’s what he did before he presented himself. & he a heavy smoker
Great movie , im related to walt disney
Good for you
