Hillsborough controlled burn turns into damaging brush fire

- A Plant City brush fire sparked Monday afternoon after a controlled burn got out of control. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue said crews responded at around 2 p.m. to the "rapidly spreading" brush fire off of Mary Ivy Drive. They said a 911 caller told them the fire began as a controlled burn that quickly got out of control, overwhelming the homeowner trying to manage it.

Beyond the easement, code enforcement will not enforce ordinances of any sort. This is why Hillsborough County, outside of the city limits of Plant City, keeps going up like tinder boxes. A fire pit out of code and burning without a permit is commonplace. Code Enforcement should be better funded. They should be allowed to enforce violations past the easements before another junkyard property burns down.
This is on the County Commissioner.
