I remember Christmas 1985, my Uncle Kevin told me Duran Duran wasn’t a “real band” and I wouldn’t remember them by the time I was 40. Well, I am 48, have seen them 8 times, and I still want to marry Simon.
I had a similar conversation with my dad when I was a teenager. I've seen them a dozen times, and every time I do, I call him from the venue and tell him "Hey, guess what - I'm about to see Duran Duran again! Guess you were wrong!" Sadly, I lost my dad last month and won't be able to keep this tradition up. :(
Nothing could be more emblematic and exciting than the number one fan band of Bowie to cover the song 5 YEARS just in the fifth year of his return to stardust! Love it!
You might find that most bands of their generation were No 1 fans of David Bowie's. Nearly all the New Romantic and New Wave bands. The Blitz guys had one theme song: Heroes.
A year later and I am realizing how amazing he sounded here. As a long-time fan, I have witness many times his voice cracking. Not once in this performance.
Gosh I'm only 32 years old, Duran Duran is amazing, I remember my mom playing their music when I was young... Now I play it all the time, and my kids love it too. They are true pioneers, extremely talented, and I am so thankful for their amazing art!!!
That’s awesome. I remember when I was on deployment serving in the Navy, my old Navy Captain on the ship I was on, we were pulling into Rio and he decided to play “Rio” throughout the whole ship over the speaker system. The whole entire crew and I we were manning the rails singing to the whole entire song which was super awesome and funny. Good times in Rio.
I have just enjoyed the Bowie celebration of his 75 th birthday , which was wonderful , but this version of five years from last year still takes the prize . Congratulations . H.
I have to admit, I only watched (listened to) it a few times over the past year...but this time, for some reason, I noticed something else, and have revisited it about 20 times since last night. I can't get enough of the vocal range Simon showcased here. How did I miss it during their first performance of this last year? Shame on me.,
Gorgeous tribute to David Bowie, you've done him proud. I lost my sister 5 years ago, as well, so this has extra meaning for me. ❤️...And I always love seeing "tiger baby".
I honestly, in the 40 years of listening to Simon le Bon singing, I don't believe he has ever held a tune as long and as well as he did in this performance. Amazing!
Oh My God...this amazing band never disappoints me. The voice of Simon and the charisma of Nick are awesome. I have been following DD since my 15´s and 35 years later sound even better.
Bowie was and still is my undoubted number ONE Idol and I am a DD's fan and must say they did their best and looks like it was a big honor for them to make this special cover, it moved me but still, there is nothing like the original it cuts your heart.
I am so blown away by Simon's voice in this song. All these years and he still sounds absolutely amazing! They are all still gorgeous. Such a talented band. I have loved them since 1982 ❤️
What a beautiful gift, to see Duran Duran together again, especially during this pandemic. They honor their hero, David Bowie, with their amazing music and vocals. I also love how SLB still wears his tiger necklace, from the 80s!
Thank you guys!❤ Bowie are still alive shining and singing in our Hearts... I believe he was there, watching Duran Duran and all the other artists doing this beautiful tribute. I admire and thank Mike Garson for all!
One of the best vocals I’ve ever heard from Simon. Ever since they covered Fame on the B side of Careless memories I’ve loved their Bowie covers. There love and respect for him is always so evident
This song and video is just so amazing and impressive especially the fact that each band member was filmed individually playing in their own homes in LA and London, so they put them all together in this video to make it look like they were all in the same area. This song is just so amazing and Simons voice is even better today than ever and the guys all look so amazing, I really hope they put this Bowie song on their new up coming album that would be great. Excellent work Duran Duran!!
I cannot convey how much I love this song, both Bowie's version and this version. Simon....his voice never sounded better. He is still the most amazing man in the world to me.
i cannot stop watching this. Moves me to tears every time. I am so glad i chose to follow a band from my home city, from the same place as me and for them to consistently keep nailing their art after all these years, my god how lucky am i? are we? to have these people, this band, in our lives? please, please, please continue and do what makes you happy boys. Thank you. Kevin, from Birmingham :)
Amazing! Big shout to Duran Duran & special thanks to Gavin 👑 Simon, Roger, John and Nick- We fans all love you so much! Thanks for this beautiful songs during this difficult times. Stay safe all, Saranghaeyo Duran Duran! 🥰
I loved and still do... you in the early 80s!...you were my hero's I've just turned 55 on the 21st of January. You all look beautiful!!! Nick... Please never change the way you look!! .... Love to you all!!!.... From a once upon a time...Good looking New Romantic...North Wales.. Welsh Man. xxx
I remember the interview Simon gave at the time of Bowie’s passing filmed by his friend Vuk Vidor. DB was a massive influence to him from the age of 14. In fact he wanted to be him. He couldn’t believe he’d died. His extraordinary & passionate vocals here, I think, demonstrate his desire to give his all - significant vocal & diaphragm training to achieve those long notes; Singing with his heart on his sleeve. I love this DD track; such passion, emotion and dedication.
Ive loved Bowie since he was a shaggy haired folk singer and always dread anyone covering anything he ever created because they will never do it justice. "5 years" is one of Bowies most beautiful creations and still makes me cry after all these years. This version by Duran Duran has done Bowie proud. ❤
There is no one better in song arrangement then Duran Duran. You are like doctors of musical melodie and all arround sound. May the waves you love be with you! I LOVED THE ALBUM "THANK YOU"
I keep coming back to this song. Bowie’s original is so perfect, and like someone else commented, you’ve gotta have balls to cover it… but leave it to Simon, Nick, and the boys to give it the love and care it deserves. And holy crapola, Simon just sings the everloving shit out of it- he is magnificent. When he holds that high G at 2:48 and it effortlessly just locks right in, I could die… and then that B at the end… holy crap, it’s glorious.
I absolutely love Duran Duran. I was just having a DD marathon yesterday with my 7 year old daughter who loves them as much as I do. They sound as great as ever, and Simon's voice is still incredible.
It's amazing to see you again... I must say you never cease to surprise me: you always grow better each time. And Simon's voice is mesmerizing. Thank you for this gift.
Once again Duran Duran showing their class by performing such a great cover of a Bowie classic.. Just creamy, such a stylish band. And Nick Rhodes still rocking his look..
The boys were Teenagers when Bowie was on the the Top of the pops that night. Thursday July 6th, 1972.... Love it
Arrangements are truly something here.
How did I forget that Duran Duran is a fantastic band?
This is how to make a cover!!!
The Boys are still kicking ass. Love them for loving Bowie.
Wild boys.
God love you guys. You give me strength to go on. Never stop.
Fuck Covid. I´ll remember this song brought a cheer while we were indoors.Long live David and all those Bowie lovers (DD included and Mike included)
Yay! Mike Garson!
I only have one thing to say: Duran Duran is one of the best bands of all time!
I agree with you ( from Italy)
better than Eyonce and bIBBER.
absolute legends covering an absolute legend

I wanted to marry John. But I'm ok with what I got.
Jajajajajajajajaa
Same🤣❤️
I still want to marry Simon too!
Just For One Day....Celebration was FANTASTIC!!!!
Nothing could be more emblematic and exciting than the number one fan band of Bowie to cover the song 5 YEARS just in the fifth year of his return to stardust! Love it!
I love this comment!
😍

Simon's voice just doesn't grow old, amazing!
A year later and I am realizing how amazing he sounded here. As a long-time fan, I have witness many times his voice cracking. Not once in this performance.
garson shines, it’s awesome that he gave his talents and time to duran/this tribute.

@Robert Fiore Thank you for the kind words Robert!! Cheers 🍻🍻
Damn these guys are good! Who's with me ?
Simon's voice is still golden as when I first heard him way back in the eighties. I love Duran Duran.....a great band.
Even better 💪
I have just enjoyed the Bowie celebration of his 75 th birthday , which was wonderful , but this version of five years from last year still takes the prize . Congratulations . H.

Simon has such a FABULOUS voice
He is the bets!!!

Great voice...great Duran Duran...fantastic!!
Never sounded better!
Love the way he interpreted this!

This is not an easy song to cover. Simon de Bon did a superb job
I seriously cannot stop watching this. Simon’s vocals are soooo good.

they were not touched up in post production.

Simon says Duran Duran is the absolute best!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Completely credible cover of a Bowie masterpiece. Bravo, Duran Duran.
Pretty much perfect. When so many singers' voices deteriorate in later years, S LeB's just gets better. And this drumming is sweeeeeeeet
I knew Duran Duran would do this song justice. ❤
Gorgeous tribute to David Bowie, you've done him proud. I lost my sister 5 years ago, as well, so this has extra meaning for me. ❤️...And I always love seeing "tiger baby".
@@Cocolocas ❤️
OMG! Simon still has his 1980s voice absolutely beautiful 🙏❤️
I just love JTs love of ballads. Every time Simon sings a ballad he gets so emotional. It has that effect on him.
Duran Duran to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2021 for sure and forever, they deserve it so much !
Its insane how Duran Duran is still fucking Duran Duran!!! This is great. They still sound so good
Nah. No where near as good as they were.
Austin how about just saying "Duran Duran is still Duran Duran" and leave out profanity huh? Grow up.
You're right they sound incredible though however Nick needs to lose the eyeliner he looks really bad with it
Fanboys in a fight.
@@NintendoPsycho wouldn't call it a fan boy fight though? He's pissed about swearing 🤬😂 Not duran duran
I honestly, in the 40 years of listening to Simon le Bon singing, I don't believe he has ever held a tune as long and as well as he did in this performance. Amazing!
Nick’s eye makeup is still on point after 40 years.
reminded me of his "Notorious" looks, but this wingtip is sharper.
Yep! Youre right..lol
I hope he continues to do it forever too!
I expect nothing else from him
Even better, imo!
Oh My God...this amazing band never disappoints me. The voice of Simon and the charisma of Nick are awesome. I have been following DD since my 15´s and 35 years later sound even better.
Duran Duran would smash doing a cover of Bowies Let's Dance.
Have you seen Simon cover it? It's on their YT Pg:

@NunyaLiz yes I have . It's so good . He performs it well.
Elevated to pure class by Duran Duran and the ladies . Bowie would most certainly have approved . ❤
They have aged brilliantly. Duran had their first hit 40 years ago. Doesn't time go by so swiftly.
But not for them they haven’t aged!
They are like fine wine
Bowie was and still is my undoubted number ONE Idol and I am a DD's fan and must say they did their best and looks like it was a big honor for them to make this special cover,

Es una bendición tener a Duran Duran al día de hoy vigentes y con buena música.... Grande DD!!!! 👍 👍 👍 👍
I am so blown away by Simon's voice in this song. All these years and he still sounds absolutely amazing! They are all still gorgeous. Such a talented band. I have loved them since 1982 ❤️
These guys never fail on delivering a cover song. They make it their own. Well done chaps.
I remember back in the 80's when these guys were on MTV every 15 minutes. The 80's were great times......
What a beautiful gift, to see Duran Duran together again, especially during this pandemic. They honor their hero, David Bowie, with their amazing music and vocals. I also love how SLB still wears his tiger necklace, from the 80s!
What a beautiful and brilliant cover!
It made me cry.
Grew up with Duran Duran and they are sounding as good has ever. Brilliant..

Wow, didn't know this either...so cool! Looks like they are in the same room together.
Son 3 canciones cover que conozco que son mejores que las originales y duran duran canta dos de ellas, perfect day y five years
I wish they wouldn't have shown the string section when Simon was belting his heart out. He sounded so gooooooood here!
I cannot convey how much I love this song, both Bowie's version and this version. Simon....his voice never sounded better. He is still the most amazing man in the world to me.
Wow! What a tribute to the late and great, David Bowie. I think that Simon's voice sounds even better today.
Absolutely amazing! 😍
I believe Nick and John were big fans of Bowie,as teenagers. So Duran Duran did, in a way, grew out of David Bowie.
Duran is Class*.
Their sound 81-85 is much much more Roxy Music than anyone else.
Simon is actually biggest Bowie fan
@@DJXLX Then maybe John is the big Roxy fan.
@@ColtraneTaylor oh yeay
And Nick of Japan 😉
Their cover of Fame is pretty amazing. I still have the 12" single.

The world will start getting better now that Duran has released new music...it always does.
Ive loved Bowie since he was a shaggy haired folk singer and always dread anyone covering anything he ever created because they will never do it justice. I totally agree!! Really - full credit to the old guys for resurrecting /showcasing it for the next generation looking back for 80s inspiration!
Placebo’s version was also good. IMHO even better than Duran Duran’s version.
Yet another brilliant work of art from my Duran Duran
Thank You, for all this Years, Love you Duran Duran, 🙏😇🙏💋💋💋💋💋🎙🎸🥁🎷🎹🎼🎵🎶
Nick Rhodes is ART!
Always perfection...boys you have to make records at least another 20 years we need you 🥰

Bowie would love this! Well done Simon and Duran Duran are just fantastic.
This is such a beautiful and somber song yet so poignant and unforgettable. And they do such a beautiful version of it.
Love everything on this song, Dr. Evil at the piano included.
Amazing how still original band keeps going .. you were part of my life during mid 80’s my hard teenager life.. now i am 52.. 🙏🏻
Simon's voice has never sounded better! Why do they not get the credit they so deserve? Duranie since Careless Memories dropped! Tune!
I love Duran Duran ever!!!!! My favorite group. They are the best.
From the 80' s to the future past ....I love you Duran Duran!!!!!
These guys have always been so cool! And Always Will Be......Long Live Duran Duran. ....
This is a beast of a song to cover. I listened to this the day Bowie died and cried. His version, but Duran Duran does a great job.
It's amazing to see you again... I must say you never cease to surprise me: you always grow better each time. And Simon's voice is mesmerizing. Thank you for this gift.
In 1987 I saw Duran Duran open for Bowie. Amazing version of one of my favorite Bowie songs.
R.I.P. Ser Bowie! Thank U Duran!
The best vocal of Le Bon’s career? I can’t think of a better performance.
