Jani was without a doubt one of the most talented songwriters to come out of the 80s Sunset Strip scene. I love the band's first 3 albums and he is sorely missed.
Peter I absolutely agree with you. Jani Lane was a tremendous front man for warrant. So much so that warrant doesn't have the prestige that it used to have when Jani Lane was there. Love warrant but Jani absent is obviously felt. I'm 62 and I wish I could return to the eighties and enjoy the long hair bands again. Take care!
Every girl I know fell in love with Janie when this came out and every guy wanted Bobbie Brown to. Such a great song, warrant was an awesome band. They have some great songs. god this brings back so many great memories. TY Danny.
Warrant on Arsenio! This is awesome! Who knows, maybe I saw this back in my party days. Jani Lane was a superstar! Aresnio was my favorite late night show back in the day! Kudos to whoever got ahold of this!
At the time I didn't appreciate Arsenio but there's nothing like him nowadays. Personally I will always love this song as it brings me back to the days of teenage decadence......lol... Jani actually wrote the lyrics to this song on the back of a napkin while eating at a diner. The official video rocks, great hard rock song and hot girl, what else could one ask for:)
@csigrissom8970 so true, bands back in the late 80s were not just talented but they were fun, the music was all about having fun, partying, sex. I think jani lane was very underrated even back then, the critics were so concerned about the freakin hair instead of the music that they let all the talent that warrant and jani had slip by,
It is so awesome to see how Jani evolved over the years, wished we could of changed the final outcome of it all. I love seeing him so happy. Yes he did have great talent that will sure be missed. RIP Jani
That's the only show from the 80s that was so diverse in music taste. Glam Metal, Rap, R&B, you name it, Arsenio made it happen. Not like today all you fuckin hear is mainstream shit on TV and that's it..where's the Glam Metal? Where's everything else?
at the top of the world here...major label backing them, late night tv on a successful show, and getting round the clock mtv support. they all are so happy, and in their element. crazy that 12 months later, they wouldn't so much as get spoken about on mtv ever again.
Yes it was really so much different I miss the sound and how much energy was put into this kind of music , gets your blood pumping get you moving,,, RIP Jani !! Your favorite song , Jani not ,,,
he was probably one of the more talented songwriters at the time and the record producers pretty much made him write this joke of a song..and he knew it was a joke. Uncle Tom's cabin was a great song and definately strong enough to carry that cd.
I saw Warrant when they rolled through Detroit, Jani was Uber talented It's a damn shame, that he couldn't see, just how lucky Warrant was, to have multiple hits When many bands in LA couldn't string together 4 hits, from multiple releases The best band to roll out of LA since MC4
I literally just watched a video about Jani Lane and this song - he HATED this song!! It became what Warrant was known for and as he put it - "it will be my legacy?" , notice the question mark at the end of that quote? That's because he was asking if that song will be his legacy even though he hated it and hated performing it. Now, I imagine when they first recorded it he loved it, he probably loved the fans reactions to it and that it was a hit. But... like he said, that song became Warrant. Everything was "cherry pie" even for the next albums, it was still all about Cherry Pie. Now I am rather ashamed to admit it but the only song I knew Warrant sang was cherry pie, until I watched a video of a concert of theirs in 1989, Uncle Tom's Cabin, they sang that song!! That was an awesome song!! Down Boys!! And I have to apologize because right now I am drawing a blank to the other 2 or 3 songs they performed that i immediately recognized but did not know that it was Warrant that originally recorded them. Oh, I see Red that was another one! The sad thing though? That concert was in 1989 and it was at a huge venue that was packed, then I got a bunch of recommended videos of theirs from performances in 1991 and 1992, now they were playing clubs! How fast they fell and yet bands like Poison were still selling out big venues in 91 and 92? Anyway, this was a great performance by them and yes it is a good song, but now when I hear it i can't help but picture Jani's face in that interview.
Jani was a Beautiful soul and man warrant owes him so much but I wish he would of fixed it to where they couldn't perform any songs he wrote they did him dirty I know he's resting in peace I'll always be Rocking my JL tattoo
romeokid69 all i have to say about your comment is cherry pie was written in one night by producers request? It never existed in the early days of warrant. Im pretty sure this accurate.
That’s not warrant without Jamie Lane remember I met him at a small club in the 90s I met him in the 80s the last time in the 90s so small club we talked for a while he was still happy but he was upset though because of the way the music industry went and it was hard because and because of the grange movement And I told him to hell with that 80s music was way better but we talked for a while and then they had to leave because it was way after 4 o’clock in the morning or 5 o’clock one of the two they had to get to another city God rest his soul. Rest in peace my friend but this bad now they need to just close it up that’s touring around without their main lead singer because he died that’s not want
When they called Jani and said "We need a song like Love In An Elevator", he knew he had one............it was Cherry Pie........now most of you will bash me and say I have no idea what I am talking about. But I actually do. See, I used to be a scribe for a former national rock magazine. I actually heard the demo of Cherry Pie around the time Warrant were recording their first album. So, there ya go.....END OF STORY!!!!
I would like to add that Robert Mason is a top shelf singer for Warrant and he's from day one respected Jani and deserves respect for holding front man duties down like a champ and it must be hard for asshole fans that don't see the guts and the thick skin it takes to fill these shoes an I dig the band .shout out from brothers Stacey &Casey from the Nor Cal redwood run biker fest we enjoyed chilling backstage and making sure you guys felt our hospitality
I love Jani but man he looks like Debbie Gibson here! Should've sang Electric Youth instead! Lol Seriously though, Jani's best work was after this. Dog Eat Dog, Ultraphobic and Belly To Belly.
@@eduardobsn83 actually no. Jani hated this song. He said "I wished I never wrote it" He became known for mainly Cherry Pie. I was thinking maybe cuz of Bobby Brown. She became his ex wife. Who wants to be known for a song that people want u to sing all the time and it reminds you of your ex wife? You can tell he don't give a shit. He seems to wear his thoughts on his sleeve. Hes not trying. He's just performing. He can hear himself. He knows he sounds bad. During the interview he's much happier. Completely different person.
Is the video slowed down, or did they play this really slow??? I don't know what the big deal is with this song. This song, as goofy as it was, didn't hurt this band, any more than Beavis and Butthead hurt Winger. The fans don't care. Grunge came along and gutted this scene overnight. Which is interesting, because we're not seeing the second generation of that grange scene, and they're out tearing down statues, and looting Walmarts. I'm from Ohio, as well, and it's astonishing how much talent came from Ohio. But, I digress...
Jani was without a doubt one of the most talented songwriters to come out of the 80s Sunset Strip scene. I love the band's first 3 albums and he is sorely missed.
If you have not heard Ultraphobic give it a spin. It is my favorite aside from Dog Eat Dog.
I agree if you haven't listened to Ultraphobic you're missing out one of their best albums
Some of their best work is not on the first 3 albums.
Jani was Awase!! I Miss him!!!!

Warrant on Arsenio! This is awesome! Who knows, maybe I saw this back in my party days. Jani Lane was a superstar! Aresnio was my favorite late night show back in the day! Kudos to whoever got ahold of this!
I remember seeing this, recording it on a VHS tape, and watching it many times. It was good to see it again. RIP Jani.
This takes me back to the good....no, GREAT days!! WAY TO SOON for Jani Lane to leave us....a tremendous loss for true music fans, R.I.P. brother....
I remember coming home early from a date just to catch this episode on Arsenio Hall! Miss those days!

Saw this tour when they opened for Poison on the Flesh & Blood tour.. What an amazing night
I saw the show in Indy. It was my first concert. Warrant was the opening act, but they put on a better site than Poison.
@@bpace2509 I still thought Poison put on the better show as they should have, they were the headliner, but Warrant was very good live as well.
Saw the Milwaukee show!
That Jani Lane! So much charisma! R.I. P. my man!

Jani is inside in my heart and my soul ❤❤❤❤.
Saw Jani live in 2009...great vocalist I will miss!
he was beautiful!!! Fucking way hot!! such a loss
Jani was really amazng and talented. Great Dude! R.I.P.
Arguably the best songwriter of the 80s and early 90s!
That's ridiculous 😂
Best songwriter ? lol i love warrant but there was a handful of better rock bands in the 80s

Arsenio was a ground breaker. Loved his show.

Well it was legitimately live, I saw them perform I saw red on some TV show and it was definitely directly lifted from the album

When you set the bar so high on the album version that you can't hit the high notes live, sounds like this. From a big Warrant fan.
Those were the days...real music on a real late night show..I hate that my kids couldn't experience it like I did..today's music is crap
Dog Eat Dog is such an underrated album…and Ultraphobic was not bad either the songs Family Picnic, Ride, Stronger Now are the standouts
cc deville done the cherry pie solo not the whole album, its common knowledge that the guitar solos were done by someone else. not all the guitars
@Rage Theatre2020 exactly right my friend
