Hello, everyone! Greetings from Narxoz University, a place that boasts a stunning architecture that will leave you awe-struck. In this discussion, I want to delve into a particularly important topic that I've been frequently asked about, specifically regarding the language situation in Kazakhstan.
A common inquiry I often encounter is, "Can I secure a job in Kazakhstan post my studies?" The short answer is, yes, absolutely! As long as everything is done legally, there shouldn't be an issue. Across the globe, in every country, if you're competent, possess a degree, and have some work experience or expertise in a particular field, no one will reject your contribution.
Countries like Canada and Germany are perfect examples of this. They are always on the lookout for workers, putting immense effort into the education sector to draw foreign students. Many countries even stimulate these foreign students, who have completed degrees within their borders, to return home. This process is referred to as "brain drain," and occurs when a large number of students go abroad for studies and never return. However, it's not because these students are forcibly removed; rather, it's a choice they make, which implies that it's acceptable for both parties involved.
I don't promote this practice nor do I condemn it. But what perplexes me is when people who want to stay, miss out on seizing the opportunities to secure jobs post their studies. For instance, when I advise them about learning the local languages - Kazakh or Russian - it seems like many people are disinterested or unsure about what they genuinely want.
Kazakhstan is unique in a way that you can visit the country without even knowing the basics of their language and still receive a visa. Compare this to a place like the UK where you'd struggle to obtain even a tourist visa without a decent understanding of English. This approach, quite common in ex-Soviet Union countries, suggests an underlying assumption that foreigners will integrate over time.
Universities in these countries, be it Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, or Kazakhstan, often have preparatory departments for foreign students where they can learn the local language from scratch. This offers an amazing opportunity that should be grasped enthusiastically.
My advice for those wishing to study in Kazakhstan is to make the most of the language courses that Kazakh universities offer. I understand that some of you may feel daunted at the prospect of spending an initial year learning the language before starting your chosen course of study. But remember, by completing the foundation course, you're equipping yourself with a skill that could be incredibly beneficial in the long run. Imagine completing your studies in Kazakh or Russian, it adds another feather to your cap and makes you stand out in the global job market.
Just picture yourself conversing fluently in Kazakh or Russian, it would open a whole new world of opportunities and friendships. So, that's my primary advice for those considering coming to Kazakhstan.
