    good job getting to the longest run of your life. some pointers you might want to consider. eat a banana an hour before your run to prevent cramping. instead of pace, look at heart rate and keep yourself at about 155-160bpm. try to run a half marathon event ASAP so you understand the environment and nuances of a race day. it also teaches you to "run your own race"... the pressure when a crowd of people around you are running will mess with your head. race day is a complete mind game. you gotta constantly tell yourself not to pace someone else, and to run your own race.

    Ran the la marathon twice while in college . I trained alone and it was one of the best experiences of my life. My anxiety went away and I got really into self reflection. I am finishing my senior year (chemical engineering at Yale)and I lost the passion for running (due to stress) but slowly getting back into it. Good luck (beware mile 19) . It was one of the hardest things I’ve done but it was the most rewarding thing ever. Btw I love how you give such insightful ideas about fitness and life .

    I’ve never ran a marathon. I always said I wanted to do one. I trained for 6 months straight when I was 23. And built up to 10 mile long runs and just stopped and got sidetracked with other shit. I’m 29 now. Back in June I signed up for a 50mile ultra marathon in Mexico. It’s on March 1st, on my 30th birthday. I have been making progress and am hoping to finish it by the 16th hour. I hope recovery goes well because I would love to sign up for the LA marathon since it’s later that week

      Starting Axis get it bro. Keep pushing yourself whenever you can. You’re capable of so much more. I may not be the fastest but I’m staying determined and driven. It’s definitely become more of a mind game. Trying to always push myself past my limits. 6 months ago, I couldn’t run a couple miles without shin splits making me feel miserable, now I can do 20 miles and only need a day or two to recover, little by little reaching that goal in sight

    Hey Bart, you inspire me with your goal to run a full marathon. I’m a navy veteran. A few years ago I came down with neuropathy. It affected my ability to walk even use my hands. Over time I was able to walk again. My goal at that time seas to run a half marathon and I did. My finish time was 2 hrs 34 mins. Running does help with stress. I know you got this. Finish and finish strong. 🇺🇸

    How inspiring for you guys to do something so scary! Keep up that training!
    My husband has ran two marathons so far. When he first started training, he started with a handful of half marathons too, and when he’d describe the mental walls he had to break down, man I wouldn’t wanna do a long run after that. Marathons were the hardest thus far, breaking more and more walls down at 16, 20, 26 miles...but he loves the challenge. I’m so proud of him.
    Hey, you can do it!! Keep going! Stay hard!

    I always love to see these insightful videos. You're amazing Bart, in almost every aspect of life it's pretty damn cool.
    I was always the fat kid, always went home during PE in high school on Fridays just to avoid the mile run. My asthma was bad too, I would wake up in the middle of the night gasping for air. Never completed a mile run without stopping my entire life. I finally faced it back in 2018 to lose weight and take on cardio. I started just walking a mile a day only and I would be out of breath still. I attempted a mile run at a 10 minute pace a few months ago and little did I know, I ended up going at it for 3 miles! I was so shocked as hell to see how much progress I made! I definitely want to train for a 10k eventually but right now I'm focused on strength/endurance training at the moment. A marathon would be huge for me as well, definitely throwing that onto my bucket list!
    I'm glad you put out all this content! You and your group sound amazing and inspiring, good luck on that marathon! Looking forward to it! 👍

    Relatable with your story: I grew up with asthma on a respirator as well. When I started running, I feel less anxious/depressed and it's a simple as that. Decided to fly into LA from Houston for the Kobe Marathon. If your coach and team are having a "shakeout run" the day(s) before the Marathon I would like to join you all. One tip: incorporate yoga for run recoveries, it will also help you focus on your breathing to complete that 26.2.

    I ran it last year as my first marathon as a 200 lbs fat guy. The people there are so motivating it's like the Moto Run at MCRD but with 20,000 runners. Pace yourself in the beginning by chinatown. Those hills tempt you to sprint them to but hold back. You got this man. I challenge you to do a set of pushups at the finish line behind the clock.

    I ran 20 miles around my neighborhood just for the fuck of it last December. Around mile 19 I hit the wall and I wanted to give up sooooo bad, like mentally I was disciplined and I didnt wanna stop, but my legs just couldn't go anymore bc I hadnt properly trained up to that point. I somehow convinced myself to get to the 20th mile bc it was a nice even number. It sucks bc I wanted to keep going but my legs just couldnt go anymore. It was a hell of a good run though, and I felt amazing right after. With college getting in the way, I stopped my daily runs but once I graduate I def wanna run a marathon.

    I've run 7 marathons. Running on concrete will eventually injure your knees, instead run on trails or crushed dirt. Also, do 10k or halfs, which then can predict what your marathon time will most likely be. Change training shoes often to prevent plantar fasciitis. You are over training if you have dizzy episodes, back off and get rest. Never go out fast even if you feel strong. Good Luck you will accomplish your goal !!

    Hi Bart.
    Few things I remember about the L.A. Marathon:
    1) A lot of entertainment, bands, dancing, singing, etc. on the side until mile 13..Then disappears.

    • @kc4531
      @kc4531 4 роки тому

      2) This was about the point where I witnessed people gathered around.. Cheering, not for us, but for the person who just came in first... like watching a boxing match or something.

    • @kc4531
      @kc4531 4 роки тому

      3) At mile 16... It was sort of a residential area. People came out and cheered for us again. I was doing good until someone yelled, "16 miles... Only 10 more miles."

    • @kc4531
      @kc4531 4 роки тому +1

      4) Mile 20.. my legs basically gave up; and it's will power.
      And, a guy that ran with us took a food break (I think it was McDonald), rested a bit... And, finished in ok time.😁😂
