Scared to get dirty from the oil pan bolt but don’t mind getting dirty from the oil filter cuz you been doing it for so many years?! 😂
    Good video 👍

I just bought a 2011 Silverado so I appreciate your video - saves me one extra crawl under the truck to find where everything is at. However I wouldn't be changing synthetic oil every 3,000 miles though - I go 10,000 at least with synthetic. Manual states about 7,000 miles for just standard motor oil. I bought my truck right after the oil was changed with standard oil and the DIC tells me I still have 49% oil life after 6000 miles. You might also want to wipe all the oil off of the engine oil pan before you screw on the new filter. LOL Overall it is a great presentation - you're a natural instructor. Thanks!

I spoke with a mechanic he stated that factory will say 10,000 but you should always change the oil at around 5,000 or 7,000 the most, you want your engine to last longer.

grate video the only thing I would have done different is cleaned the oil filter housing area befor putting the new filter on because after the new one is on it is difficult to gain access to it to clean. brake parts cleaner works grate on those pipes with oil on them. I also like to fill my filter with oil or at least half way if the filter is mounted this way. I do it in my ford. one thing in your video you did mention is every 3 k not with full syn oil this veh can go 5 or 6 k befor the next change on full syn.. the oil drain bolt torque is 18 ftlbs

hey! great video! only think i can add though is to always check your oil after the car has sat 10 or 15 minutes in order to get an accurate reading. great job man !! keep it up !!!

I usually add fresh oil to the new filter before putting it on to avoid any dry starts or air bubbles in the chambers. Smart idea.

I was wondering if it hurts the motor if you don't put oil in the filter to avoid dry starts .I do that that too ..dry starts scare me

Starting in 2011,GM uses Dexos approved oil and GM can turn down engine warranties if not used.Any vehicle with a cartridge type oil filter, the filter gets changed first. The old oil will mix with the new.if this is not done

It is not necessary but it will help with the start up. It will take a few seconds for the motor to fill the filter and you are basically dry starting the motor.

I don’t know what’s going on with my Tahoe but I just changed my oil and filter and when I checked the oil level it was about a half inch above the full line so I go take oil out of the drain plug the next day and no oil comes out... I put the vehicle at different lift levels to see if any would come out and nothing... but when I go to check the oil level on the dipstick it still says I’m over the full line... anybody know what this is?

    • @EducatedGreaseMonkey

No... do not turn on the car with out oil. You turn the car on once you've filled up the oil. So that it can circulate in the engine and then you can check the level accurately.
