The far spike was adjusted so the ride could operate in rain. Before 2023, the train wasn't pulled up the entire backwards spike. To ensure the train didn't valley on the return run, the scorpion tail had booster tires. These could slip in rain. The modification allows the train to be pulled up the entire backwards spike and since it now goes up the scorpion tail higher, it can complete the return trip without the drive tire boost. I liked how bizarre the coaster was when I rode it. I loved the drop, crazy Gs, and hangtime.
Connyland is my homepark and this was not just my first ever upside down roller coaster, but my first coaster ever, and I truely thought I hated coasters. It took going to Europa Park like 5 years later to realize they’re supposed to be fun.
same with Intamin lol. It just seems the Swiss audience is much more nature focused. Understandably so. I can't imagine there's as much demand for theme parks in a country with such beautiful scenery.
@@CoasterStudios Swiss speaking here. I think what you said is definetly part of the reason why, many people just go skiing when they want to experinece an adrenaline rush. There are other things to add to this though too. Firstly, Europa-Park is so popular here. About 1.5 Million Swiss People visit the park annualy, which is, if you consider that the poulation of Switzerland is only 8 Millon, actually a crazily high number. The most poulated area of Switzerland is in the north, so cities like Basel (1h away) and Zürich (2h away) are pretty close. Another factor is that salaries and building costs (and living prices) are way higher in Switzerland than in all neighbouring countries. So building and operating a theme park that could compete with Europa-Parks dominance would be soooo expensive and would also be so pricey that many people would say "too expensive, ket's just go to Europa-Park (or sometimes Gardaland and Disneyland)"
5:48 I can tell you exactly why it was extended. Because they had some issues with the coaster valley-ing on the return leg after they installed the newest trains. So they added a little bit to the scorpion tail so the ride had enough momentum to get back to the station. Unless Im from a different dimension, thats the reason I remember the park giving.
Taylor's only in his mid/late 20s, I've never traveled alone until I was 25/26. Also traveling by car is cheaper and more attainable than flying international.
Well, considering the stats of how many US citizens actually hold passports and then the stats of those who have traveled outside of the Americas is really quite low.
I think Cobra can be one of those rides that looks GOOD on paper, but...isn't executed very well and makes everyone ask, "Why?" Maybe if this was more spread out, built fully by intamin, and located at a different park, I'm positive that it'll do better and have a more positive outlook. I'm sure Cobra has its fans...but I think this can be considered a "One-and-done" coaster credit.
I’ve never ridden this but I did visit Conny Land in 2009 when they were advertising Cobra. It hadn’t opened yet, but I remember the park was small but charming. There were several small flat rides and a simulator (which felt like a parody of Star Tours) as well as an aquatic show. It was my first park outside of Florida and that factor excited me a bit. Of course, this park is incomparable to later European parks I’ve visited (Europa Park, Phantasialand, or even Heide Park).
The way you described Cobra is the same way I feel about Frank N Coaster, which is the coaster located on top of a Burger King in Niagara Falls, Canada. Both coasters are so bad you just ride them for the novelty and move on.
Shame this ride sucks, it’s so bizzare and different! When I first saw it I was like wow that’s crazy and unique! This is the first review I’ve seen of it so it’s unfortunate to hear it’s so rough and uncomfortable.
We have the HQ of B&M but out only inverting coaster is.. *that* XD Also we used to have Intamin too I believe? Europapark is just too competetive for Swiss theme parks to thrive, also because Germany is cheaper (Even with Europapark becoming ever more expensive!)

Typical Canobie coming in with the FACTS 🔥
very interesting, thank you for the insight! Was not aware of that.

You'd think being the home of B&M would mean better coasters for Switzerland
same with Intamin lol. It just seems the Swiss audience is much more nature focused. Understandably so. I can't imagine there's as much demand for theme parks in a country with such beautiful scenery.
@@CoasterStudios also it's rather difficult when a majority of the country is mountains

naturally, on a Pax coaster the blood starts Russian to your head
boooooo lol

Remember when Taylor didn't ride anything outside America?

It’s so sad that there’s not a single B+M coaster in Switzerland. They should pull a Mack and open their own park.
I loved it with the old pax train, I’ll have to try with the new one to see if it’s really that bad
I know this ride also has a lot of fans, due to how intense it is. If you can handle the roughness, it's an amazing ride
"Russian Manufacturer" say no more I believe you 😂
It's an interesting design to be sure, you gotta admit that. I'd ride it once for the credit.
the you shake like a baby rattle comment was top tier
2:25 Fun fact : I discovered the existance of Conny-Land with a park map leaved on a Europa-Park's bin! xD
So I'll go asap to claim my +1 on Cobra :p
Sooo intense I liked it
The concept is cool but the smoothness is like a vekoma

Nice Tom Scott thumbnail

They should of gotten a Vekoma Slc “the parody moments”
I love your reviews
this ride can be described as one thing: the doohickey of all time.
Fun fact this ride has a near clone with two loops but I forgot where it’s at lol
The reason why this coaster was installed was so people could post “Would you ride this roller coaster!!?? 😮😮” videos online
pretty much lol
Well, there's a reason why we Swiss go to Europa Park.....
They should replace kingda ka with this
Man do I envy your lifestyle
so I'm guessing it's not in your top 10 then
I’m getting uncomfortable just watching this
I’d be knocked out for the rest of the day after this ride
So, basicly the only original from this rollercoaster by Pax is... the idea?
essentially lol
Why would they design the track like that, or send it to this park if it didn't immediately have the correct safety requirements?
but wtf is that zick zacking coaster at the background
I despise shuttle coasters
Lost me at Russian manufactured lol
Looks horrendous
switzerland deserves better
We have the HQ of B&M but out only inverting coaster is.. *that* XD

The fact this coaster has been open almost 15 years, but Kingda Ka closes is just 😩🤌
