- Hi!
Andy does a walkthrough of the boat just before we put the deposit down to check on loads of stuff. We were trying to figure out how much it is going to cost us!

Fabulous Andy, there's no question she'll be beautiful when your finished the refit. Interior lights look marvelous. Enjoy!
thanks David, it's coming along nicely
Looking forward to seeing you make all of these updates. Your music background is annoying, so make some change to that....
will do Paul 👍
tbh, the music on most Sailing channels is really really annoying, plus is accompanied with .ots of soft Porn and Boob shots. a real turn off tbh, though many are the most popular Boat channels, with a serious lack of much in the way of boating reality, but not true of all thankfully. Just started watching this video out of Curiosity, as I find it hard to Comprehend why anyone would accept the Dramatic increase in Costs, and difficulty of getting a Marina Berth should you need one, that comes with Boats 50ft and over. On the South Coast of England, getting such a Berth in Peak Season for example, is pretty much Unobtainium. Best Wishes and Fair Winds. Bob. ⛵️✨️✨️✨️
First - Epoxy Barrier Coat. Don't buy the expensive stuff. Get Stabdard Laminating Epoxy and do Three Coats. You need to ensure the Keel is right and Rust free and successfully Barrier coated already, or back to clean and deducted prior to three Coats as well. If Fairing is needed, just buy the fairing additives and add them to straight Laminating Epoxy, and save a fortune. Bob. 👍
hmm. 2 metres is not Shallow Draft, you will not be able to get into or out of a huge range of places, and will need a good, decent sized Tender to get ashore and back, from maybe a mile out. I'm griping that my next boat has a 5ft Draft, as that is bad news for loads of places. a 4ft Draft is much better for Cruising, bringing with it the ability to run for safety into sheltered little Bays with 6ft to 7ft water at low Tide and able to cope ok with Storm Swells coming into the bay, without grounding the Keel. Bob.
Lots of Work there. Make sure you fully service the inboard and Generator, with new impellers as well, so you know what tou are doing with them from a good Baseline. A/C Full Service as well. Good luck. Me, I'd get it done up, a d all known good, then sell it to get a sensible Cruising Boat, that won't break the Bank to keep in A1 Bristol Fashion Condition. Best Wishes. Bob. 👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️
She looks like a good buy for that money and looking forward to watching the progress getting her cleaned up. Enjoy!!!
cheers Robert
130k's a good deal. The 54DS is a lot of boat for the money - and when she's spruced up she'll look amazing. Looking forward to the ...'journey'.
lot of bloody work needed! it was a fair price. cheers mate and thanks for following
These are great boats. I’m a boat guy, but watching a few of these boat fixer upper videos makes me realize that it’s a full time job owning something like this. You either have to be retired with a good income or be young and single without kids and a good income. Biggest thing is simply having enough time to dedicate to it.
i have kids and no income 😂
Coming up on my 2nd year refitting a 47 swan....best of luck mate. It's always a labor of love and no common sense on a rebuild. But we do these things anyway. Don't forget the thru hulls while she is on the hard and torn apart. She will really be yours when you set sail.
a Swan 47, amazing. what year?

Exiting seeing a boat get a second chance, especially one this nice! congrats on the purchase, although its sad seeing such a beautiful girl left to sit like that. Will be great to see her back to like new for sure, good luck my friend
Thanks Marko, appreciate that energy
Good walk thru Andy. Thanks for sharing.
cheers Dom 👍
the wiring would worry me most other than that GREAT boat well done!
yeah I've changed a few corroded wires already. mostly external, everything inside has been fine 👍
Great video! "Ahh, Ocean Aire, buggards!" Hahaha. I love your commentary. I can't wait to see the finished product.
thanks Patrick! those bloody blinds are a fortune!
Cheers to you for reached your goal to buy a boat! 😃
thanks mate! see you out there one day!
I am definitely eager to watch you get her right!
you'll be watching something. getting her right might not be on the ticket! 😅
@@OceanCruisers understood!
got your work cut out for you mate, but you've got the right attitude, it'll be a beauty in the end
cheers mate!
I am so exited for the refit!
cheers Owen! I'm excited to finish!
Nice boat, mate; looking forward to the refit.
cheers mate, looking forward to see what you buy next!
Nice wide beam, but having experienced a grounding, and having seen someones keel come off, I much prefer a full keel, which also protects the prop and the rudder.
cant argue with that! 👍
Well done on the Reno, was the price US$ or Euro ? Enjoyed the journey....easier watching than doing .
i cant remember what i said in the video but it was 130 US
nice one andy alot of boat for the money looking forward to the refit
cheers mate! it's taking its toll on me! 😅
Great project. Magic. 👌
cheers Andy 👍
You are braver than me, good luck 👍
braver or stupid? 😅
Nice boat 👌 good luck
thanks mate 👍
I’d look at the new or newer 57 and look at the colors of the hulls. I like it . And the price
wish I had that cash!
@@OceanCruisers .Not buy one . Just look at the colors to see if one would work for your boat . Instead of blue . But I wish I had the money to paint my hull to . I’m gonna guess if you did all yourself . And bought a sprayer and compressor. 5000 grand
oh well yeah the 57 comes in a. gold colour which is really nice. I've gone got roll and tip mate by Interlux. 2 layers of undercoat and 2 top coats the paint was a grand. it isn't a expensive. I think roll and tip is better for DIY, it's a more forgiving finish and you can't really bugger it up
@mal4821 sticking with the blue, im from a council estate, the blue makes me look classy, fake it till you make it!
I hope it works out! Concern about no rudder support! Keel bolts? Check them! Hey it is a brave thing to do! OK!
cheers Rolf, yep, issues with both of these and solutions under way!
@@OceanCruisers Thank you! Do be careful when you or someone is doing the sandblasting! Do not go too deep! And how old is the rigging and chain plates? Take care!
@@rolfsvensson5777 ive opted not for the sandblasting this time around, the yard quotes me 6k! nope!
@@OceanCruisers I sure agree!
Fantastic boat! Where did you find it? do you have a special webpage you use for to search for a project boat like that?
they are everywhere mate, you just need to move fast when they come up
@@OceanCruisers I know I see people getting deals all the time!! 😅 my question is where? what webpages do you use? You just call marinas? where are all these abandoned boats listed? Or is it just luck and refreshing yachtworld all day? haha 🙀
Rudder delamination from water egress. A hammer test would give you a better idea .
The previous owner said it was from a rope getting caught in the prop and wrapping around the the rudder. it's damaged in the back also but not as much strangely. 👍
@Sailing Voyager - The Ocean Cruisers but once water gets into the rudder then delamination occurs depending if it's balsa core rots . Using a Hammer to tap the fiber glass eg sailing parlay revival styles tells you where the delamination is .
@@z.pberic3061 oh yeah there is a few spots, I'll be grinding then out when the rudder comes off 👍
@Sailing Voyager - The Ocean Cruisers it's not a big deal but will make your repair last
@@z.pberic3061 100% correct mate!
Does it just come down to a gut feel as to what is the value of the yacht. How much work and money is required to fulfil its potential. Will the refit be your only job and you will living off your savings.
calculated the costs mate, I work full time on other stuff, but the money for the refit is coming from earning money!
Govee led lights are great
I actually love em
Could you advise how to look for a yacht to renovation? Which place in Greece did you buy your yacht?
It was in a Yard in the Saronic. Scan local websites and go to the yards to see what is available. A lot of boats aren't advertised.
Man, that interior is seriously beat up ! That boat wasn’t just used, it was abused, by people with no business operating a sailboat. No wonder you got a deal !
yep. it took a bit of work!
I am having a big sense of dejá vu, didn't I saw this already?
yeah mate, it released a couple weeks back by accident. removed it after 10 minutes!
@@OceanCruisers I see, I was scratching my head. Thanks for the answer and good luck.
PS. Is that your First Sailboat by any chance ? It does look like it frankly. 🤔
nope, 3rd
Brown noise right enough! Your new boat is nice my friend. It’ll be minted once you’ve done the work to get it how you want it. I hope it all pans out for you guys and you get all your dreams 👍🙂🏴
What is your estimate of the cost of getting her ready for living aboard ?
200k 👍
Have you got that paint job finished yet
nope! doing it myself, just sanded the second layer of undercoat today! few touch ups of undercoat here and there then onto the topcoat in a couple weeks 👍
I'm back in two weeks so will catch up
She was in charter, yes?
private charter yeah
If you don’t buy it, I might, I’m looking for somewhere to keep my chickens.
😅 there is cleaner places for chickens mate!
Please use 1K varnish for the floors, Urethane or classic doesn't matter a lot inside. 2K will be a hard surface, sensitive to falling things and cracking then. Can't follow the comment before about the music, much better than most channels with cheaply produced electric music.
oh the floors aren't wood actually, they are a vinyl faux wood. so I don't need to do anything with those. Thanks for the watch!
@@OceanCruisers But you were talking about varnishing the floor boards in the salon... And they need it for sure.
@@Hotzenplotz1 no varnishing the steps and the area around the navigation table. I did this two 2 part Polyurethane
@@OceanCruisers 2K Polyurethane is also varnish to me as long it's clear, so no pigments in.
they ask 130 and you say yes? im obviously from a different planet.
they asked for 160 and I negotiated them down straight away. fear not young man, you aren't an alien yet.
@@OceanCruisers phew you had me worried.
How are this Marine? Have something for me ? 😱
👍
130,000 Whats? Dollars, Euros, Pounds?
