Miss this place. Crazy nostalgia dump watching this video and reading through all the comments. The 80s & 90s ruled... they were the last great decades. Christmas at this mall destoyed NE Mall. North Hills went all out. Gigantic christmas trees with rotating wood figurines built into them were erected all through out the mall. Seeing santa, even if his breath smelled terrible... the man delievred the goods. Got my SNES beacuse of North Hills Santa 😜 So many thing from my childhood came from this mall. We bought our first dog form the pet store there (next to Mervins), Bought a pair of Jordans there, spent countless quarters at the arcade, bought my backpak from mervins every year (jansport of course), bought those LA Light Shoes, watched loads of movies, etc. the List goes on and on. They also had a pretty dope candy shop. All of the candy was kept in wooden barrels that you'd scoop out into a bag. Man, what a time to be alive.

I believe that NH Mall would have still been viable for another 10 yrs, had NE Mall not expanded so quickly.
I occasionally go by there and they've put some apartments in on the SSW side (north of church row on Glenview), of where it stood, and the cement footprint of the mall's dimensions is still there.

I agree. Mervyn’s and S&C closing would’ve probably put North Hills into decline anyway. If NE Mall hadn’t expanded, I honestly think Ridgmar wouldn’t be in decline today and North East Mall might be. I still wonder what would’ve happened if North Hills had done that big expansion they announced.

@@wowhaha4871 I kind of disagree because that mall had BEEN dying prior to the expansion. I started high school, 9th grade, in 1996 & got school clothes at mostly Gap & some Limited. Then I could only buy jeans at the Gap because they had what were called "reverse-fit" jeans which fit me PERFECTLY. [Perfect fit for "2 trips to haul ass" chicks/ladies/women.] Even gettingclothes just before 8th grade started in 1995, it had already started to die. It was sucky to see. I kiiiiinda liked Mervyn's but loved Dillard's & Foley's. Remember the crazy housewares AND home electronics they too had, not JUST Sears? Insane. I remember there used to be an office store across the street from that mall, Golden Corral....I think North Hills Hospital is still there but under either Medical City or Texas Health. I think it may have always been under Texas Health, just not called Texas Health.
Remember the cafeteria's? OH & Waldenbooks...I LOVVVVVVVVED that store. I know B&N acquired Dayton's/B. Dalton books which of course Amazon will trash. I absolutely despise Amazon and refuse to do business with them. Yes I know it does not matter because lack of my business is not going to make a $300 billion dollar company or whatever go under however just my principles.

When I was in kindergarten you could see North Hills Mall from the playground at Glenview Elementary. Now both places are gone. 😥

They built a new school on the same exact spot and renamed it Jack C. Binion Elementary about 20 years ago.

I saw TMNT 1 and The Black Cauldron at NH Mall. My buddy that is a synthwave artist is about to release an album called North Hills Mall. I worked across the street at Service Merchandise and spent a lot of my teenage money on Star Wars CCG (decipher) cards at the Waldenbooks in NH Mall.

I had my store (animation town) right next to unicorn consignment shop. The management just constantly lied an made up stuff to keep us there. North East did close them. They did it to them selves. For years the only let in high end stores an passed on just about everything else. They had about 40 percent vacancy an still refused to let common stores in.

I grew up going to north hills mall in the early 80s. Saw Santa Claus there who brought me my first Atari (haha) in 1982/3. Many great memories of the mall. We went to north east mall too and it was def the funner of the two malls. I’ll miss the hanging plants and cool stores from my youth. And that cool arcade they had nearby. Thx for the update

The arcade was directly across from the movie theater, wasn't it? I would sit in there and play Super Street Fighter 2 for hours while my mom shopped. I have distinct memories of being kicked out of the arcade multiple times beacause food and drinks weren't allowed in, but I'd always bring in a slurpie from whatever fast food joint was selling them in the food court. Haven't thought about that in years, decades even.

The sign has been gone for several years, but interestingly enough, the concrete posts that supported the sign are still there, hidden behind shrubbery on the corner of Grapevine Hwy and Rodger Line.
