In some situations like the one your described the statement is fine. It's needlessly confusing, pretentious, and self important, but that's a separate issue. The main problem with the phrase is that it's often used as a shield to criticism or justification for flatly insane opinions and beliefs. Like with Rogers and his objectively incorrect, crackpot takes on the vaccine and other conspiratorial bs he believes. @@EpicBowlingChamp

It shows a consistency in Aaron’s character I think. He seems outspoken against larger media narratives, particularly against those he cares for or their mission or values (a pretty normal stance I’d say). It just so happened that his vaccine stance, likely starting from consuming content from “free thinkers” on the internet, led to his obfuscation of his status and subsequent critique by the media when it was such a sensitive issue at the time. That gave him the final push down the “alternative facts” and “do your own research” pipeline into either the conservative media machine or adjacent to it like Joe Rogan, coinciding with his decline in play and here we are where people mix their sports opinion/analysis of him and the jets with their political narratives or views, both for and against.

@@ShineAsTheSun-jb5bz First, it was nice to get this interview with the man writing that book in general.
Second, Jennings stated how he felt regarding Rodgers and quite literally said he felt some sense of remorse about it. Not that he wants to walk back the comments, but that he wants to talk it out with Rodgers himself (although I find this kind of hard to believe since I feel like if he truly wanted to talk it out, then he could lol). To add onto that, Ian talked about how Ryan Grant understands why Greg and Jermichael Finley felt that way about Rodgers, which was cool to hear about since he was a big part of that young team back then. Afterwards, Greg went on to say more about the "accountability" angle, and how he felt like Rodgers and the people in that locker room stopped holding each other accountable. To me that was my favorite part of this segment and gave a lot of insight into my favorite football team I've ever watched.
Third, Nick said Rodgers sent him a message, not that he just pulled up some tweet. I won't disagree with you that he clearly still doesn't like Rodgers and wants to put him in a bad light, but at least get that fact right.

Was Peyton trash for missing the whole season? So why say Aaron lasted 4 plays? He shouldn’t be trash for getting hurt. Doesn’t make any point besides he got injured. And his last year in greenbay they went on a 6 game losing streak. Those rookies everyone keeps mentioning without ANY CONTEXT. Were both injured. The pack won all remaining games except the final game when those rookies came back. So everyone always brings up things that can easily be researched. Imagine starting with an entirely new rookie receiver core and they all go down. Then years later people say he couldn’t win with them. Then he couldn’t win in ny his first year cause he lasted 4 plays. Aaron Rodgers!!! Sort of. If it was just a critique on the media...how it twist truths into lies (rightly or wrongly), then sure. But Aaron's position on Kaep was that certain media made it seem like he was disrespecting military members (which was true) and his position that the jab is basically bottled up poison and the pan was ginned-up (which is false).
I think the difference Nick was talking about was not comparing the two situations, but comparing how in search of nuance Aaron was, regarding Kaep, at one time, compared to the unnuanced take he had regarding all the c19 situations.

They don't align at all. The right wing folks who all of a sudden love Rodgers now cause they hate being pricked by a needle, also hated Kap during his protest. So Rodgers is liked by the right wing folks for his anti-vax protest, but Kap is hated by those same folks for his quiet protest. That's the hypocrisy.

@@Person-gk5ee Yeah but how many have spoken out for him that have been disregarded because their stance didn't align with the narrative that he is a weak leader and a terrible teammate? Aaron Jones was on Undisputed at the SB, says unprompted by Skip or Shannon that Rodgers is a great leader and the only reason he got his shot was because Aaron called his number. Any follow-up or a new discussion about Aaron's leadership? No just on to asking about Jordan Love. And remember when they tried to create the narrative that Devante left Green Bay because he was "sick of Aaron's drama and the uncertainty?" And then had to drop it because Devante wouldn't corroborate it and told the truth that he left because GB management is inept and cheap and let him walk because of that? Just dropped and not mentioned again. Someone speaks up for Rodgers they get a smile and a nod and then the media just says "we'll just never play that clip and never mention it again." Because they're dishonest punks committed to the narrative they created about Aaron being a selfish person, bad teammate and weak leader.

Honestly I don't care about that Rodgers / Jennings tiff, and never have. I could understand how a QB who was heavily involved in the play-calling would take offense to one of his receivers openly suggesting that said play-calling was designed to prevent him from being successful. There are plenty of reasons to dislike Aaron Rodgers, but that isn't one of them IMO unless your name is Greg Jennings.

    To refresh memories:
Greg’s “criticism” was about Rodgers, with 3 years under his belt, not fighting with management to give Greg more money. GB offered 3/30mil and he took 4/40mil to go to MIN. MIN cut him two years in and he never saw the “extra” money. He felt like Rodgers betrayed him and showed poor leadership because he joked to a DB in San Francisco about Jennings going to SF (as if Rodgers or the random DB made decisions) and this was AFTER Greg turned down multiple offers from GB for 3 year top-of-market extensions.

It irritates me that most journalists don’t acknowledge how much anger and judgement was thrown at people who went against taking the jab at the time. I think Arod was trying to avoid the backlash toward taking a personal stance against it. With what we know now, it’s not nearly as controversial. Just shows how challenging it can be for public figures to be authentic with how ruthless the media can be when you don’t see the world the same way as them.
