I love how the percussionists bop their hands with the rhythm.
Singing this takes a lot out of me, absolutely my favorite movement

the funniest thing about that isn't that it's epic and dramatic when it's just about drinking and gambling BUT the facial expressions of most of the girls: they really look angry just like their men are way too long in the tavern 🤣

You didn't get the messages of this song. Drinking and having fun is for all. Not just for the peasants - which in 13th century Southern Germany did not spoke or understood Latin beyond a few phrases. This song is by the academic elite of the time. The melody is actually known as the text was written down with neumes. Here a more authentic version (albeit the support by instruments was in real life most likely less available/good)

The epic and dramatic version was by Carl Orff in 1936. Following on the big orchestration the footsteps of two other Bavarian composers: Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss.
Why does it have to be southern Germany? And academic elite? One didn’t have to be a professor (in modern words) to write a poem like that - students could do it also.
To talk about southern Germany: universities existed in different regions at the time (e.g. Bologne, Sorbonne, Cambridge, etc). Besides, epic orchestration feels weird, despite the fact that it has the right to be possible.
To sum up: I understand the musical message of an authentic version you linked. But what is the Carl Orff’s message?
@@nhkvictim5714 But students were part of the academic elite, were they not? Because poor peasants wouldn't bei able to pay for school. The fact that it is written in Latein alone shows at least some degree of elitism. And universities were just starting to establish themselves. The songs were written in the 12th century and only compiled in the 13th.
Southern Germany, I think, references the only known source of the song, the Codex Buranus, which was found in South Germany (Benediktbeuern, to be specific). Although you are right, songs of this kind were mostly written in France or Italy.

Questa aria è suonata e cantata molto bene da questa orchestra. Viene messo in evidenza il giusto suo ritmo.
In realtà ci sono versioni che sembrano più una canzone da osteria, come dovrebbe essere. Certamente la canzone è cantata bene, ma non credo sia questo il giusto ritmo da dare.

This is a splendid performance: a perfect tempo, sparkling percussion, first rate singing from these men, and Maestro Shalaby's wonderful sense of humour in prolonging that last cadence.
But, oh, some of the comments. Ignorance abounds.
Ignorance about what exactly? This song isn't meant to be singed like that and that's what most comments criticise, that doesn't mean that it can't be singed this way also, but most commento say that they prefer other version. The singing is surely wonderful for the style, but if we should also take in account the pronunciation it isn't the best.
I don’t think people are criticizing the performance, it’s excellent. People are just saying that this rendition doesn’t seem to match the spirit of the lyrics, i.e this doesn’t sound like the tavern music it might once have been

Because that's for Tenor and Basso voices only. Of course, they most likely performed all of the Carmina Burana, so the Sopranos and Altos were still on stage

I enjoy the "Latin"-esque renditions of this song. This is very orchestral, which is not my preference, at least in the case of this song.

I prefer other interpretations of the song, also is that difficult to learn the song by heart and avoid reading?
Do u know how much THIS chorus worked and learned where to sing louder and quiet? The words are pretty hard to learn.
@@sandamahu1270 no they are not hard to learn, I learnt them pretty easily, if you know the meaningl of the world is even simpler, just read the text and the translation is a pretty simple scenario and very easy to memorize. Also I don't really care how much time they spent learning how to sing, they sure have a good technique but simply this isn't the right style for the song, just check some other interpretation and you'd get what I mean.
