Flash mobs are one of the rare evolutionary social movements of the 2000s that are totally healing, and always a net positive for society. They bring us together, completely, for a precious few heavenly moments. They lift us out of the maelstrom, up above the clouds of anxiety where we can peer, for a brief moment, into the infinite distance of joy. This brought back a lot of memories for me, because I sang in the chorus of Carmina Burana when I was in high school in the ‘70s.
".....Flash mobs are one of the rare evolutionary social movements of the 2000s that are totally healing, and always a net positive for society....." MUSICAL flashmobs, yes, definitely. But there are also criminal flashmobs coordinated by cellphones, in which a whole neighborhood of bad kids go into one store - then all shoplift stuff, run out simultaneously, and beat up anyone who tries to stop them. Those are not positive. Not at all.
In my life I've been in hundreds, if not thousands, of shopping malls, outdoor plazas, and transportation centers. Not ONCE has a flash mob like this broken out while I was there. I feel cheated by life :-(

Agree with other commenters. Unfortunately I stopped performing a couple of years before the advent of flashmobs, but I so wish I could participate as either performer or audience in one of these. In our "community band" we once or twice invited audience members to sit inside the group to experience the music from our perspective and everyone seemed to love it. I doubt any of the performers in this video felt "selfless" in the least. It is a great feeling to show people, especially kids, the feelings of power and satisfaction derived from performing a piece like this on real live wind and percussion instruments, not synthesizers, drum machines and autotuned voices.
Maybe you should contact High School, ,University Choirs, Church Choirs, in your area. These are artists that don't EVER get enough exposure. See if you can get them to be as one for a local charity.

How absolutely fantastic! The practice it must have taken to coordinate everyone- the orchestra, singers, dancers, & the confetti... WOW, JUST WOW, BRAVO! I love that the 3 original singers ended up standing back-to-back. Fabulous. I had to come back to this video. I'm an avid concertgoer who knows the formality of seeing & hearing a concert in a symphony hall, so this is very different. I could not imagine going somewhere to do errands or getting on a plane or train, & all of a sudden random people in the crowd started to play instruments, sing, & dance. It would be extraordinary. I would gladly miss my plane or train to witness a performance such as this. Again, Bravo Everyone, Multi Bravo!
When I saw "Flashmob Carmina Burana", I thought, "A flashmob singing 'O Fortuna'......cool!!!" At 2:15......the tympanist hits that drum, that immortal 'D' note.........AND IT BEGINS!!!! I was NOT disappointed!!!
I kinda missed the bass drum and gong. But that might have given a few heart attacks in this situation. I even thought the tympanist was holding back a bit to avoid overwhelming a 'lay' audience with the massive percussivosity of his regular performance level.
Not to nitpick but... And I could be wrong, not being a vocalist... But I don't think they're songs. They're sections or movements of a secular oratorio. But yeah, I know the whole setting is a bunch of people in a tavern singing songs; many of them drunken songs. So while I shudder violently every time someone comments "yeah dude, we're totally playing this song in band" when referring to a piece of classical/serious music, if one can ever be forgiven for calling a piece of serious music a song, I suppose this is the occasion.
Amazing. The beauty that we can produce. The smiles and joy of the spectators and performers reminds us what's important in life. I can only imagine the planning involved to do this. Well done!!! Bravo!!!
Buy a ticket for any concert near you! You've the Italian flag as pic so dont tell me you've no occasion to do so in Italia, you guys have such amazing orchestras!
I heard this amazing piece of music in an open square of Lisbon in June with 2 different choirs and the traditional 1930s trams passing by and its bells ringing . One of my best memories ever...
I toured with a choir in college, and this was our primary piece. What a piece of music! It's even more exciting and pulse-pounding to perform than it is to listen to.... but I still love hearing it, even 45 years later! Bravo!

As has been stated, O Fortuna is both the first movement and the last (25th). I'm not sure what "brief movement in between" Larry was thinking of -- perhaps 23 Dulcissime? At any rate there are nine movements in between, not just one.

I'd like to add to your comment ..".You are obligated to share that moment of exhilaration with others." Actively show others that joy in your daily life". Find ways to add something incredibly simple with others. "Say Hello, Smile, and do it as a committed act! Do it from your heart!"
Every time I stumble onto one of these, I wonder what it must have been to be there at the time. If I ever experienced it it most likely bring me to tears. Just watching the videos usually does. What an experience it must be. Thank you to all musicians who participate in one of these.
No , cleaners wouldn't do that now days , they could be sued for destroying " a piece of art " .qz.com/535482/italian-museum-cleaners-mistook-a-contemporary-art-piece-for-trash/ 😬
Could someone please tell me if the original piece had these prolonged notes by the three sopranos? My three years old grand daughters asked me why the sopranos kept singing the same long notes yesterday..I wish I could answer.. and wish to know if that part was in the original composition?
I would love it to be. Sadly it's dubbed. There are orchestral reasons why what you're seeing isn't what you're hearing but I won't bore you with them. It's still a great video so . . . So what.
I don't feel there is anything ordinary about these people. It takes a certain level of talent and professionalism to be able to pull this off. I've done this piece before and the harmony alone is enough to give most singers nightmares.
I don't know why unless it's the power of the talent brought together for the benefit of everyone there that day and since thru video , it really makes me emotional !
This is spectacular on so many levels. People looking around to see where it was coming from. They guy with the camera looking, where, where. Memories made from young to old. One of the best.
Utterly stupendous! What a beautiful gift from those lovely musicians and artists. A glorious, majestic, soaring colourscape that came from nowhere, grew into a masterpiece then was gone. An echo of loveliness.
I myself had the the pleasure of taking part in a very special Choir-flashmob: we, as a choir from Germany, performed Beethovens "Freude schöner Götterfunken/Ode To The Joy" on the Chinese Wall. In chinese language. Fantastic experience.
Gregg, just have a look at the homepage of the "Wiener Volksoper" (address mentioned in the description). There you have pictures of all the current singers and maybe the ladies are still members of the opera ensemble.

I just don't know what to say. Never listened to this piece of music. What was I missing? OMG, it's just beautiful. Adjectives can't express how I feel about this. Love it.
+Charles Rosenburg If you have never heard Carmina Burana before, I hope you have made up for it now. I have been listening to it for more than half my life. Wonderful! If you're looking for the best version, and there are a lot, try the Deutsche Grammophon version with Dietrich Fischer-Diskau singing baritone. The best by far in my humble opinion.
+Charles Rosenburg This was sort of a medley of the overall work of Carmina Burana by Carl Orff, his version an expansion on the earlier religious texts and poems by the same name. Where the timpani hits and they belt it out is O Fortuna (Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi) [Oh, Fortune (Fortune, Ruler of the World)]. The version they sang here is a mix of all three verses and goes: O Fortuna Velut luna Statu variabilis [...] O Fortune, like the moon you are changeable. [...] Fate - monstrous and empty [...] and virtue, driven on and weighted down, always enslaved. So at this hour without delay pluck the vibrating strings; since Fate strikes down the strong man, everyone weep with me!
+Charles Rosenburg It's a well-known piece of oratorio. My favorite use of it is in the 1981 Arthurian epic film EXCALIBUR, directed by John Boorman. They use it during the knights' quest for the Holy Grail.
WARUM passiert mir so was nicht?😂😂😂😘😘

carmina burana is one of the most powerful pieces ever.
Ha, I thought that was the city they were in hahaha
Carmina Burana are a series of compositions made by Carl Orff based on the poems of the Codex Burana.
@@TruckTaxiMoveIt the city is Vienna, austria 😊
I love flashmobs. People get immediately connected. It's a time of joy, beauty, smiles! Very special. We should always be like this!
Now I want to see it again from another 20 viewpoints. Those dancers looked insane!
Music makes Life worthy. Thank you.
MEEEEEEEGA TOLL.
This one of my favorite pieces of music. I have loved this since I was a child. Thank you.
The moment when you realize that magic really exists ... and you are inside its bubble and living it.

W Canaday. And that’s the truth and nothing but the truth. Let music inspire our dreams and future, not our fears.
I'd like to add to your comment ..".You are obligated to share that moment of exhilaration with others." Actively show others that joy in your daily life". Find ways to add something incredibly simple with others. "Say Hello, Smile, and do it as a committed act! Do it from your heart!"

SENSATIONELL!!!!!!!!!!
Mir kamen die Tränen vor Rührung...
Einfach klasse!!!!! 💜💜💜💜💜💜
I come back to this video every time I need an energy boost! How lucky they were to have such a magnificent presentation in a random day.
Every time I stumble onto one of these, I wonder what it must have been to be there at the time. If I ever experienced it it most likely bring me to tears. Just watching the videos usually does. What an experience it must be. Thank you to all musicians who participate in one of these.
I've watched this sooo many times yet it still gives me goosebumps! Bravo 👏 👏 👏
This one and the Beethoven flashmob Ode an die Freude
My research has shown it is MUCH BETTER to get goosebumps than chickepox!!!❤❤❤😂😂😂
Fantastisch! So viel Expression und Schoenheit! Ich bin begeistert!
Exceptional performance and location!
see the amazed and happy faces, gotta love a flash mob
andrew holgate i just love how uncomfortable people get when someone next to them starts singing 😂
Oh man that would totally make my day ❤
The only thing missing is a final shot of the two 'cleaning women' sweeping up the confetti.
+Jim Baerg
Shades of Carol Burnett!
No , cleaners wouldn't do that now days , they could be sued for destroying " a piece of art " .qz.com/535482/italian-museum-cleaners-mistook-a-contemporary-art-piece-for-trash/ 😬
OMG, the emotion and the tears. How beautiful on every level
I've saved this to my favorites & have watched it many times. Never grow bored with it! Bravo!!
Wahnsinn... ohne Worte!! Kompliment für dieses einzigartige Geschenk!!
I love these kinds of performances. This really has power too!
Wow. Just spectacular.
these sorts of things never happen when im out and about. how can one find out when/where they will occur such that i might experience one?
That was great! Must have been epic with the acoustics of an airport.
merveilleuse initiative
bravo ❗merci 🎄🕯️❤️🇬🇷
B E A U T I F U L!
Especially that prolonged note by the first three singers. Amazing!
Could someone please tell me if the original piece had these prolonged notes by the three sopranos? My three years old grand daughters asked me why the sopranos kept singing the same long notes yesterday..I wish I could answer.. and wish to know if that part was in the original composition?
this is a true high quality flash mob!!
I would love it to be. Sadly it's dubbed. There are orchestral reasons why what you're seeing isn't what you're hearing but I won't bore you with them. It's still a great video so . . . So what.
Beautiful!!
Such an emotion ! To re send again to friends! We all need Carmina's energy in these hard times! Thanks!
Ordinary people, extraordinary talent.
I don't feel there is anything ordinary about these people. It takes a certain level of talent and professionalism to be able to pull this off. I've done this piece before and the harmony alone is enough to give most singers nightmares.
Well in fact these people are professionals ;) It was a flashmob live act of the singers of the "Volksoper" in Vienna.
naaah, m8, it's extremely hard work, fueled by passion
I don't know why unless it's the power of the talent brought together for the benefit of everyone there that day and since thru video , it really makes me emotional !
That was great! Confetti, perfectly matched singing... the amazed look on the faces of people around them!
Thanks for all the practice you guys have put over the years you just broke me in the most beautiful way 🎻
Genial ,perfekt, schön mal wieder Menschen in Harmonie zu sehen ,ich bin sehr beeindruckt ❤
Wow, that sounds cool. Is there a video of that on UA-cam? And in what Chinese language did you sing? Mandarin?
How can a thousand people not like that? I love these flashmobs and this was a good one!
Wow! Those ladies voices at the beginning are incredible!!!! Wonderful performance from everyone.
Does anyone know their names?
Gregg, just have a look at the homepage of the "Wiener Volksoper" (address mentioned in the description). There you have pictures of all the current singers and maybe the ladies are still members of the opera ensemble.

that was awesome that is the best of the best of the best best best best I still have chills Thanks it was wonderful
I am pretty sure I would have missed my train for that.

I just wish I could have been there and experienced this in person. It's brilliant!

The version they sang here is a mix of all three verses and goes:
O Fortuna
Velut luna
Statu variabilis [...]
Sors immanis
et inanis [...]
michi nunc contraria,
est affectus
et defectus
semper in angaria
Hac in hora
sine mora
corde pulsum tangite;
quod per sortem
sternit fortem,
mecum omnes plangite!
O Fortune,
like the moon
you are changeable. [...]
Fate - monstrous
and empty [...]
and virtue,
driven on
and weighted down,
always enslaved.
So at this hour
without delay
pluck the vibrating strings;
since Fate
strikes down the strong man,
everyone weep with me!
Thank you. this was certainly an attention grabber. Must give time to listen to the entire piece.
+Charles Rosenburg It's a well-known piece of oratorio. My favorite use of it is in the 1981 Arthurian epic film EXCALIBUR, directed by John Boorman. They use it during the knights' quest for the Holy Grail.
