Traditional Negative Scraper vrs Pine when hand woodturning

This video is not a tutorial but a demonstration that a negative scraper can cut dry pine cleanly. It was in response to comments that you can’t do it.

Appreciate the video, so very helpful! How do you sharpen your scraper when its length gets so short? That would not fit on my grinder’s tool rest without removing the handle.

I do it completely freehand, I don’t use the tool rest

I never use a skew on faceplate work. And never use the scraper on spindle work.

Do you slip stone the top or do you go to the grinder to sharpen both surfaces when you feel it is not working for you 🤔

I grind the bottom bevel regularly. I only grind the top bevel occasionally.
