- In today's video, I use a new fish trap in a tiny creek FILLED with exotic fish! My goal is to catch rare African cichlids for my new backyard pond! And I ended up catching some of the prettiest fish I have ever seen!

The hole in the fish trap is there to take the fish out
But u have to tie a knot when placing it in the water
just pull it inside and it's closed

Nice fish! If you fold the hole on the bottom inside the trap, it will stay closed while in the water. An fold it out for easy unload ;)

Me and my girlfriend breed peacock cichlids, yellow guys a sunshine and the pink one is a dragon blood. Cichlids can breed with whoever doesn’t matter the color lol, awesome vids! So cool that you can go catch cichlids yourself! Can’t do that here in Kentucky lol

Nice catch the yellow one is a lemon 🍋 jack and pick color one is strawberry/dragon blood and the red color one is red empress sweet catch fam and those r all males
The most beautiful one is called Aulonocara sp. Fire Fish. I'd put it in the tank personally.
Also I'd just catch some Eastern Happies from the other pond and choose the most colorful ones to put into the cichlid pond.
Looked like a flamingo cichlid to me but I have old eyes

The hole was to get the fish out easier when you’re ready to empty the trap
yeah tie it up with a rope and then just pull the string and empty them out the bottom.

That long skinny pencil looking fish is called pipefish and that other fish that looks like a shimp, is called white leg shrimp, hope that helps y’all .

You should use the bottom hole to fill with bait, like a little chum bag and since the bottom will be flush with he ground they’ll only be able to get the bait from the middle of the trap

Wow nice peacocks!! Females will be a plain to very little color fish. Some won’t even look like the same type. If you catch males females are in the same area. Either google female peacock or visit a good fish store and ask them to show you the difference. By the way, those tanks you showed at the end of the video are a 55 ( 48x12x24) and a 90 gallon

I think I figured out the hole thing in the bottom I'm guessing it's to dump the fish out that you catch. Tie a string to it at the bottom and untie it to release them. You need to do 2 or 3 traps there with all the beautiful ones you catch. I wished I could do that ( catch beautiful fish) and have a pond

You're supposed to tie off the bottom of the trap, then untie it to easily deposit your fish in a bucket/container.

"the hole" was for food. yes you usually tie it up, its open so that it would be easier to put bait in it.
That orange one is called Dragon Blood Cichlid.
Haps, peacocks and mbunas can crossbreed within their subspecies if their colors are similar, creating hybrids.

You can tie the bottom off on the outside and when ready to empty the trap just untie it and shake them out

You close the hole up, then untie it when you get ready to empty the trap. Rake push everything into the hole into your bucket

Man I live in UK and I am so jealous. Btw those small livebearers you love to ignore...they sell at £25 a pair + in UK. And I have friends who pay hundreds for African cichlids here.btw try adding some small whelk style shells as some of the cichlids are shell breeders

The hole in the bottom of the fish trap is to empty the trap. You tie it up and then untie it to empty
You are supposed to put a rubber band around the hole for a quick release from the trap

The peacock types can interbreed regardless of color. The other type can too, just not with peacock types. Hopefully that makes sense.

That "GIANT GAPING HOLE" isn't a flaw... You're supposed to tie that off and use that as the hole to get the fish out with.
