- 2016 Ram 1500 HEMI Police Truck Revealed & Ram R/T Raced around the handling track at the FCA Chelsea Proving Grounds in Michigan. The Law Enforcement package for the Ram 1500 is a special service pickup truck, but not one that can be rated for "hot pursuit". However, the 2016 Ram 1500 R/T package sports truck is quick!

The Ram guy wasn't expecting a real journalist to show up that day. Every question put up by Roman was sharp and relevant.
That ram guy is so akward
agreed
damn you beat me to it! lol
I was about to say he is annoying! lol
My drivers ed guy was like this..
The first guy seemed more worried that he was going to say something that his bosses wouldn't like or, gasp, compare RAM to other truck manufacturers' offerings.
the Dodge guy was not ready for these questions. had no comment on the competition with Ford trucks.
You would think they would prep for that kind of question.
So the Police variant is a standard Ram with lights & loud speaker added to it.... there is SO much more they could do to that for law enforcement.
like put a viper engine in it, beef up the transmission, make it pursuit rated.... H However that market is hard to get into with Explorer, Tahoe, suburban, etc. the way it is now can definitely serve the purpose for what the end user does. It'll most likely be used by wildlife officers who dont necessarily get into pursuits.
My immediate thoughts were to put a cage in the backseat like the patrol cars in the event needed. Additionally, if used mostly for wildlife officers, put a factory made ramp for ATV drive up, safety/gear mounts, fire extinguishers for the daily roadside car-bbqs, a forward brush guard & winch to start.
Manufacturers usually leave their police variants in a "blank canvas". Agencies are left to go to third party garages (ex. Star Car by SIRENNET) to add equipment that suits their needs. But usually the agencies that buy police variants get a cheaper price than a civilian equivalent.
most of the wild life Rangers use chargers and explorers in ohio. almost all of them have a cage in the back, better tires, a bed liner on the whole bottom in the inside of the car/suv so that if you get water/mud in it it cleans up easily and doesn't rust the floor boards. there is probably engine stuff done to it too. plus the new chargers come with push button start. lol
If the biggest change you made is a dome light, you have more changes to make.
"They sell trucks..." lol
they have to put the 6.4 in the R/T trim, that would be badass
agreed
I drive a ram 3500 6.4 liter hemi at work and may I say even tho it’s a big truck that thing will FLY!!
That first guy seemed wildly unprepared.
I love it how my government tells me I have to buy more fuel efficient vehicles through CAFE standards and yet they buy Tauruses, Explorers, Chargers and Ram 1500s with Hemis.
U also can, what's you're point
I think that TFL should consider making the Hot or Not series also with trucks. Taking heavy duties around the track would be interesting.:-)
+Jan Doležal Thanks Jan. Great suggestion and Ahoj!
Ahoj! :-) (For those who don't know what this means - it's Hello in Czech)
What's " Bugger off you bloody cretin " in Czech⁉️😐😐😐
I don't want to be banned by UA-cam so I won't write dirty words. It would be better to meet somewhere and than I can tell it to you. ;-)
Great showcase Roman!
He would have got more information about that truck out of a piece of popcorn
the sound of engine
In the area I live at in Kentucky, the sheriff's department and the department of fish and wildlife uses these trucks. The sheriff's department puts a lot of miles on theirs and will usually be out in these trucks during severe weather and snow.
What part of KY are you in?
The jelly part‼️😶😶😶
I want to know that too
Loving that SRT guy! how fun!
"Hell Ram" needs to be made
This is an SSV not PPV.
So while it's a police truck, it's not a patrol truck., It is not pursuit rated.
And no heavy duty upgrades? So it's just market BS? wow.
While I can't speak for Ram, most of Ford's law enforcement vehicles include extra power outlets and relay sockets for installation of Radios, lights, fliashlights and such. This saves a great deal of work for the installation folks. They also change the carpet out for plastic because it's easier to clean. Sometimes they will increase the rear payload on cars for additional swat gear. Ford would also install the A pillar search light. Not much else is changed.
THOSE TRUCKS ARE NOT DURABLE AT ALL!!!
His non answer said a lot. These trucks are a piece of shit.
I love the Dodge viper acr
going to miss it so much 😢
Who cares about the police truck...the reg cab R/T is badass. Lowered w/ some bigger sway bars please.
Or you could buy a pursuit rated Ford interceptor utility and be able to tow a boat or four wheeler. In PA DCNR buys that or Ford Superdutys.
yeah I've noticed that. PFBC and the PGC started moving over to tahoes recently I believe. the biologists usually get the pickups now instead of the officers.
Border patrol is probably the main customer for this vehicle and the Jeep Wrangler. They have a lot more off-road sections. You could also probably set this up with tow equipment for quick impounding. Also I think they spec this with the eco-diesel more often. Just makes a lot of sense for certain tasks to use a pickup with good mpg.
+NEPA Outdoors so many Tahoes Highway Patrol nowadays
So, the only way to get a 1500 SPORT R/T is in a 2WD regular/single cab, 6' 4" bed. As soon as you get the 1500 SPORT in a quad or crew cab(2WD or 4WD) it is no longer an R/T. I have a 2016 1500 SPORT BLACK 4x4 Crew Cab and it is no slouch with the hemi and 8-spd. The rear axle ratio is smaller at a 3.21 but the transmission makes up for that. It is so nice to cruise the highway at 75mph and turn only 1600rpm, and ECO/4cylinder mode gets some serious mpg for a truck! I can only imagine the same drivetrain of my truck in a 2WD regular cab with the 3.92 rear axle ratio, and less weight without the bigger cab and 4WD components.
Base model Challenger RT: 28,000 for cloth seats, basic touchscreen, 20" alum wheels, manual trans...Ram R/T: 28,000 for leather seats, NAV, 22" Chrome wheels and 8 speed auto...If your on budget the RAM is a way better value...only if you have 6k more the Scat Pack become the better value
LOL that FCA guys face when he was asked if FORD was their competition......
Haha he didn't know what to say when asked if Ford sales police trucks. Ford has went above and beyond for law enforcement and in my opinion have catered to law enforcement as far as taking the time to meet with officers on their opinions of what they want in a police interceptor/truck. Ram.... sit this one out.
What's up with the guy doing the interview he acts like he doesn't want to be in the truck..
no joke..i actually had to speed this up
+aron john I would believe it
That truck has been used for the police in mexico since a lot ;)
Just a heads up to all Coloradans, State Highway Patrol just received a handful of F-150's. They are silver in color (Same paint scheme as the Chargers) with decals on front doors. The one's I've seen are crew cab, short beds, with a bed cover. They are the aluminum body style.
I'm disappointed to see so much money go into traffic enforcement.
Spotted that jeep cherokee overland in the back. Whens the review of that coming?
what was the point of the little camera roman was holding when they already have a dashcam? That little camera had horrible video quality compared to the dashcam
What would have to be done to make it pursuit rated? I can imagine brakes, transmission cooling, reinforcements, and suspension tuning but I don't see it needing a whole lot
Love the Airstream food service trailer-
The Airstream food service trailer has the big awning on the street side-
I presume the order window is on the street side.
It's a truck with lights on it....wooo hooo
TFL= The ford lover! Asking about the F 150 early on. ....
I wouldn’t mind owning one of these
In Mexico they use the ram 1500 and 2500 mainly then silverado and tacomas
The police in my area have police trucks and jeeps. Even some f350s
Hey Roman, how did it feel talking to Mr. Personality?
The ram guy spit all over the place at 6:44😂😂😂
That guy in the passenger seat is kind of awkward lol
Will you review the F150 SSV for police?
srt engineer spits all over camera haha 6:42
I've been wanting TFL to do a review on the ram R/T I guess this is the best I'm going to see on that truck I've also been wondering if ram is going to do a srt version
the cops are gonna be pissed when they try to chase somebody and the trans blows
Stfu
the 8speeds dont hold up at all. I know we have afew in service atm
Roman to Andre, pullover asswipe! Duh, roger boss! Hits brakes and Roman plows into the back of him.
truck governs at 106mph :) my ram 1500 bighorn lifted with tires and exaust maxes at 106mph. so did my 2011 ram 5.7l hemi until i bullydog tuned it.
I'm of the opinion the Police should have nothing faster than roller-skates‼️😇😇😇
Then this should be perfect. If you see this coming after you, just run, parts will start burning and falling off soon enough.
Troy Strain I see we're becoming attuned to each other's sense of humour‼️😜😜😜
+Jose Pacheco T Well, don't you sound like the brilliant, scholarly type. It's actually a Dodge piece of shit, you know the half-ton with the worst reliability record, from the company with the worst reliability record since the '70's. But, you're probably too young and certainly inept, to understand the relationship between the statistical outcomes of history, and the willingness of a company not to fix itself properly.
+Troy Strain still more reliable than a Ford 😂
Smoking bath salts again !
I like this truck. I'd like to know if it's available without the light bar and graphics and with all the other stuff that comes with it.
I mean with the flared fenders and skid plates and beefier transmission.
David Greve so basically undercover truck
Nice truck
I think I have a lightbulb with more personality. It would be simple to say that "if the cops chase someone in this and flip over, and run over peoples heads, they wanna sue us for their bad decision" so we dont pursuit rate it for that reason. Or, Its basically a Clubsman with the front seat ripped out so we can market it as a police vehicle.
"How about durability?"
"We found our trucks to be plenty durable"
So thats a no on durability then.
cool Airstream concession stand
The Dodge guy isnt very informative.
I think he has a hard time with Roman's "jovial" attitude.
wow i was gonna thumbs down this video because of the first mopar guy but when i saw Eric toss that ram around and how cool he was, i just couldn't lol
Can they use it in a pursuit though
Do you get 4 way drive? Really?
police truck? is this mexico?
Sheriffs where I live use F-150's as their main vehicle
6:43 cameras in the splash zone
Wow the last time I was this early the UK was still in the EU Union!
lol
Haha
European Union Union? dumbass, next time you repeat an overused joke, at least get the fucking thing correct.
+ontarioknivesNS7 Ouff why so mad.
+Jake From State Farm not mad, annoyed that so many people use the same stupid joke. Tenth one I've seen in 1 day.
Too bad there isn't a pursuit rated RAM. Its certainly fast enough with the RT package. I think it must be other features like the ram bars missing and not having the caged in rear seats that make it fail the qualification testing.
Yeah
unless they put a camper and seats back there
The problem is not these amazingly built very large engines, but the petrol we put in them. When hydrogen will be available for us all?
They should outfit the sport and make a police pack
I wonder if the f150 ecoboost can pass the pursuit test.
To be fair, this guy isn't one of the marketing guys (I would have to guess). "Vehicle Integration Managers" don't deal with the media often I am guessing ahaha
It's like watching a really uncomfortable Uber Pool ride unfold.
think they could get a better guy to represent Dodge? maybe one that answers questions a little better
I never see ram police vehicles except for chargers mostly suburbans f-150 and explores
They use those in Mexico. There were a lot used by "federal" police.
Did he say Viper Hellcat at 8:59?
he said a Viper or Hellcat
So after every cop in the entire United States is now driving the Ford Police Interceptor Utility or sedan (or whatever those are called), did anyone buy these pickups?
Those Hemis are terrible for police use where they idle for 12 hours a day
Officer, does that thing got a hemi?
they should bring back the srt10
The official guy was so odd like he didn't want to be there and was really not happy/comfortable being on camera.
Yea so where is that new srt10
I wonder how a police power wagon would be like
Sheldon Cooper ?
Ram should've had a better rep in there with him. Should've had someone in there with him that knew what they were talking about. Guy barely answered any questions throughly.
that rep did not want to be there lol
NYPD has 3/4 ton trucks
"we found our vehicles are plenty durable for police agencies"..."really"?, yeah im shocked too Roman, its not even tough enough for my wife to drive...and the 5.7? im all about saving gas but at least use the durango for a base so it will corner
Can someone please give me a good enough answer as to why law enforcement needs a pickup truck?
BC Nation in the country side or game and fish warden park rangers border patrol fbi secret service and at the beach where there is alot of sand to were a normal crown vic can't go through and for there mounted patrol to haul the horses
Yet the suburbans and the Tahoe's can't do the same? The only reason I can think of is in the even of needing a bed to carry offroad vehicles.
Our department in the country uses these
las mejores camionetas para trabajo durabilid y correr nohay como la RAM y quien no crea compre una y quitese esa duda yo tengo una y nola cambio por nada consu motor HEMI 5.7 liter puro power ram
Next video:2018 Nissan titan police package.....
I know the second guy who works for viper and srt
The fastest you can go in a Ram hemi is 105mph because of the speed regulator. I wish I could take it off because in 8th you're only at about 4000rpm and there's more to get out of it. Compared to other vehicles, its very easy to hit top speed, doesn't take long to climb up past 80 like most cars. Speedo goes to 120, compare 140 in chevy and ford trucks. When do you need that much speed? Ever drive through the Dakota's? It's flat and boring...
I think it is because the stock tires are only rated for that speed and if someone took their truck above that and blew a tire they could sue Dodge. My F150 is limited to 98 MPH for that reason. Trucks like the Ram SRT-10 and Ford Lightning had higher speed rated tires.
Chevy shuts down @ 100...and has since 2000.
Yep! Tuned my EcoBoost and have taken it to 125, felt sketchy so I let off hahahaha
Just get better tires and take the limiter off. It's not that hard
wheres "the limiter?" Pretty sure that would take a fancy scan tool
The guy from dodge was just so awkward... And even he said it's just a tradesman with lights. Special seat configurations, and especially no special warranties... In San Antonio they use Ford for a reason.
now this is my opinion, ugh the dial shiftier I hate
and keep the viper
I dont get why hes in police car driving
I want that
the geeky pocket-protecting dude looks like he should be selling Bibles not talking about Rams....
should be illegal in pittsburgh they have one its all black and rwd all black tint but i cant have tint in my bmw
He absolutely refuses to say they use it almost exclusively for immigration.
Hi
l like it
I would it if Ram would put a 6.4L in a 1500.
Roman is Ford through and through..!!
What's that white truck 😍
