- The original and best recording of this song by James Reyne not Australian Crawl. From his first solo album. One of the most incredible guitar solo's ever recorded. It's got two, and the second one is the killer(outro). If the note at 5:41 doesn't rip you heart out, you don't have one. My first attempt at a youtube upload so i stuffed up and repeated the song-oh well, that solo deserves another listen!
Nearly six years ago, we lost a good friend of mine in a tragic hit and run motorbike accident. He was a great man, loved by so many, and a bloody good guitarist. As a young boy I idolised him, but as we grew older, we saw less and less of one another. Then he was gone.
When I hear this song, I think of him. It's one of the most emotionally rending songs I can think of. And now even more so.

For me, this evokes surfing and sailing the long, remote beaches of Australia. Beautiful and treacherous at the same time. Magnificent. One of his best.
My all time favourite of James song
Such a beautifully crafted song. A shame this wasn't released as a single with a film clip. Too long for radio I suppose. Jeff Scott absolutely nails the guitar solo. I used to have this song on a "sleep playlist" that I made for my kids when they were young and trying to get to sleep. This was the final song in the playlist and my now 14 yo son still loves this song and says "this was one of my sleep songs" whenever I play it now. Nice that he now has a similar appreciation to me ...

First heard this when I grabbed a "best of" compilation of Australia Crawl / James Reyne... thankfully this version was on it, it has become one of my favourite guitar solos, up there with Gary Moore's Still Got The Blues :)

The amazing @Jef Scott ! He supported James for years when he went solo and was heavily featured in a lot of James' music videos. Eventually becoming an official member of the Australian supergroup Company of Strangers. A band comprised of
Simon Hussey, Jef Scott, James Reyne & Daryl Braithwaite, before returning to the US. He should come back to Australia, there's a big void left here now!!
