  • Alice in Chains is one of the most respected bands of all time. They're considered part of the "Big 4" of Grunge, along with Nirvana, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam, though the band was definitely the most metal leaning. Alice in Chains found success with 1990's Facelift, but it was 1992's Dirt that brought the band to new heights. Dirt spawned huge singles such as "Would?" and "Rooster". The band became known for their iconic sludgy sound, but they also had a soft side as well. Along came 1994's acoustic EP Jar of Flies, in which the band entered new territory. Jar of Flies saw Alice in Chains at their most intimate and reflective, with frontman Layne Staley baring his soul both vocally and lyrically.
Jar of Flies is home to Alice in Chains' most haunting song.

You don’t listen to Alice In Chains. You FEEL Alice In Chains.

It’s awful how much Dont Follow goes under the radar it is probably one of my favorites by AIC

  • @lanecore75

Rotten Apple is an underrated track that has a dark foreboding sound. Love it, even though it reminds me of dark dire days in my life.

'Whale and Wasp' is the most haunting song they've done, in its simplicity, in its brevity, and without words. That single bending note Jerry both opens and closes the song with is one of the loneliest sounds ever made.

nutshell unplugged is so good, i listen to it way more than the studio

  • @lockyp204

He’s screams “I stay away” at the end of said songs still give me the chills. Epic

In 1995, my best friend was killed in a car crash Dont follow was playing on the tape deck when the impact disconnected the battery. He was 20 years old. Still miss you, my friend.

Nutshell being one of AIC's most sad and heartfelt tracks as well as lyrically being one of Laynes most personal I don't think it's their most "haunting". We are in an age where people don't listen to albums front to back anymore for some reason i cannot understand. If you do, as you should, listen to their ep SAP. There is a song called "Am I Inside". Another example of Laynes lyrical genius. This is definitely their most haunting song.

I think Angry Chair is one of the most haunting sounding songs I’ve ever heard.

I love Nutshell and Down in a Hole but in my opinion, Frogs is the most haunting. Chilling lyrics.

Well done. There will never be anyone that compares to Layne Staley. R.I.P

Jar of Flies is one of those albums you can listen to on repeat and never get tired of. Nutshell, though extremely dark, but ever relatable, absolutely one of my favorites by AIC. Lyrics though simple are very direct… Love it though very dark.

I saw Layne in a three piece suit at the start of their set on Lollapolooza in 93 and it was like 95 degrees that day! Needless to say he took the jacket tie vest and shirt off after playing Would the first song to start the show! Very charismatic singer and great stage presence! His voice very unique and an unbelievable range! RIP Layne!

AIC was so unique with their vocal harmonies. Something about Layne and Jerry’s vocals together made them one of the the most memorable sounding bands of all time!

  • @birdworldist

    Let’s goo AIC 4 ever 💯

  • @smowkdaddy

AIC took glam rock grunge metal and blues to another level! Cant thank them enough for what they have done for music!

  • @smathfury

“Am I Inside” is the most gut-wrenching song by them, in my opinion. It’s easily their most under appreciated song, by far. Anyway, thank you for this great video.

  • @Webedunn

    I LOVE “NUTSHELL!”

  • @jeffpatton2866

You nailed it. I know there are many dark and haunting songs from my favorite band, but "Nutshell" is the ONE. It's so hard to believe that a song with only 8 lines of lyrics can hit you so hard. I never can listen to it without crying.
