- In this video we will learn how to use the hammond organ engine of the Korg Pa5X.
This video has three parts:
Part 1: The first four minutes will show how to load the organ in the Pa5x which is enough to get you started.
Part 2: If you are more adventurous then you can watch further and we will cover the programming basics of how to program Hammond organs. We will learn how fundamentals in sounds work and what the drawbars and settings are for in the advanced organ screen.
Part 3: The last part of the video will show 20 Presets based on famous organ sounds or famous players, you can follow along with the video to create those sounds yourself.

Super explanation of the drawbars! I‘ve been playing quite a while with organ sounds, but I never thought about the physical meaning of each drawbar / pipe! I also love the sounds that you created using some of the famous players!

This is the most informative demonstration of how a hammond organ works I have ever seen and you have skillfully revealed the organ capabilities and the ease of the interface of the PA5X. I just wonder, the PA5X has been out over a year now, yet in South Florida, I have never seen a demo unit in a music store and no one has them in stock. Apparently you have to pay for one and get on a waiting list for one to be shipped to you at some point. I wonder what is the hold up on the availability of this instrument? You can't just walk into a music store and walk out with one. Finally, No One explains keyboard technology better than you do. Thanks for what you do.

If you are aiming for the better organ sound I wouldn't hesitate to go for the Korg (especially the Musikant type).

Hello, eternally thank you for creating these great contents. For those of us who speak English, it is twice as hard to understand them, but it is worth our little effort to enjoy such good tutorials that we are already used to enjoying.
I want to take this opportunity to ask you if it is possible that through the KORG's MIDI input you can play two or three sounds loaded on your hardware.
And if possible, it would be wonderful if at some point you could make a tutorial on how to do it.

The Leakage have nothing with aging to do. The 96 tonewheels of a Hammond is divided into 2 groups and since all tonewheels in each group is not shielded in any way from eachother with a metal divider, because its an electro mechanical sound generation some of the frequencies from each tonewheel will leak into each other in the same group which adds to the character of the sound So even you have only activated one of the drawbars there will be a slight background sound from the other drawbars. Think of it as a Piano where you in todays instruments has some kind of Sympathetic ressonance emulation which emulates that when you hit 1 key with the damper up, the string you hit will set the other strings in motion too, adding extra overtones.
It's often misunderstood cause aging of the circuits of the instrument often adds to the ammount of leakage cause of failing or aging caps in the mixing of each tonewheel adding more crosstalk.
Another quirk about the hammond is, turning percussion on uses the 1" drawbar for the percussive sound, so It's a common trick to pull the 1" all the way out together with the typical 888000000+perc to quickly switch to a 888000008 sound just by disabling percussion. The older Hammonds didn't have Percussion at all, it was kinda a "hack" when they added it cause they didn't have any more tonewheels 🙂
