This modern-day preference for abysmally slow tempi needs to end. It causes both the dancing and its accompanying music to loose all dynamicism and rhythmic verve. The musicians of the world's orchestras hate it, and it shows, as their playing tends to be professional and nothing else (this sums up the Mariinsky orchestra these days when playing ballet music). Examples of bad tempi - the pizzicato @ 7:43 is nearly twice as slow as it is supposed to be. Flora's variation with solo for harp @ 12:03 is absurdly slow, making the variation nearly twice as long as it should be. I encourage everyone to watch these 2 variations @1.25 speed for musically correct speed.
Dear Mr.Lopez, I’m about to publish the music for this PD4 but I’m certainly not clear about “Aurora Pizzicato”. Some sources suggest this is the pizzicato variation that Drigo composed for the Goddess Hebe after the 1894 premiere. But Harvard notations indicates that Hebe pizzicato is in 3/4. Other source says it’s from “La Perle”. Harvard notation are missing music partition for those variations but there’s indicated a variation for Hebe in 3/4, variation for Diane and variation for Aurore in 3/4. What’s your opinion on that? Thank you:)
@@Grunyaprotazova I am not certain of the Pizzicato's origins - I have told it is Kschessinskaya's variation from Petipa's "La Perle" but I'm not convinced. I believe it is originally one of Drigo's 11 supplemental variations for Petipa's 1888 "La Vestale". Burlaka's assignment of music to the first 3 Goddesses never makde no sense to me. Oh well.
