- Usually Robogames doesn't run the 30 pound class, but for this year the event is helping out another event that needed a venue - long story short, for the first time in a long time, there will be a 30 pound class at Robogames!
I had pretty much given up on the idea of using this particular frame and weapon again, and was eventually going to build it all new again before heading back to NHRL events (or maybe Brazil). But since the opportunity arose, I just had to take advantage! Besides it will give me an opportunity to check out a different speed controller for the weapon, something I really needed to address.
Robogames will be April 19-21 at the San Jose Convention Center, so come out and watch the action! robogames.net/index.php - Наука та технологія
I'll be there with some bots. Hope to see you there Ray!
2:43 i can see tombstone in the back 😄
I am very much looking forward to robogames this year. i'm sure it's gonna be great.
Good luck I hope you win
Best of luck goat I hope you win it all
No wedges ? And what about mortician ?
Mortician is coming along - we'll have more content up on that soon. I am currently rewiring it due to some upgrades, and should be able to do some functional testing soon!
@@ray9368 glad to hear !!
Hope you can kick some bot, Ray! Good luck!
Maybe a bit worried with that battery being squished back there with the more bendy titanium plate instead of steel, I hope you can drive away from bots trying to hit the rear!
Otherwise we're going to see if they improved their handling of lithium battery fires, last year was a bit suboptimal at times.
Everything is always a trade off. But yeah the battery is less protected now
A curious question, are the lipo packs weight difference between charged and discharged significant?
Electrons have effectively no mass, so no: a charged pack weighs as much as an empty pack.
The volume however can change, as it can produce lithium oxide gas when (improperly) discharged which expands it (puffy lipo).
@@bami2 The mass does change. Don't take my word for it, though. I was asking if it would be significant enough to warrant weighing in with a flat battery.
@@ConstantlyDamaged That's why I said "effectively". You're talking in the order of 1/100000th of a gram difference for a EV-sized battery. A lipo pack on a robot? The difference is unmeasurable.
Why? Because you're taking the square of the speed of light for conversion: E=MC². So unless you have gigantic amounts of energy, the mass is always going to be miniscule.
Even with nuclear explosions you generate terajoules of energy from the conversion of only a couple of grams of fissile material.
@@bami2Right. Thanks. The reason I replied was because you were off on some tangent about electrons, when electrons had no bearing on it at all. (It's the chemical changes to the electrolyte brought on by electrons passing through the battery during charge.)
I do find, on further inspection, that yeah, it'd hundredths of a microgram.
Is it possible to use 6061 or 7075 for the frame instead of UHMW?
Aluminium is roughly 3x the weight for the same volume of material compared to UHMW (~2700kg/m³ compared to ~900kg/m³), so to keep in weight all the walls and stuff would have to be really thin. You'd probably have to change the weapon and end up with basically a completely different bot, more comparable to Touro Feather.
There would be no way to make that frame 6061 and still be abled maintain that same thickness and still make weight. Either he would have to shrink the weapon down or shrink the wall thickness of the frame down by probabaly 3 times in order ti still make weight
I've made 30's before with aluminum chassis, so of course it does work. It could even be done in the same style, machined out of a solid piece if I was so inclined - and felt like putting the hours in on the CNC :) It would just be a different robot, and honestly if I rebuild this again from scratch I will probably make it out of UHMW again.
Will Tombstone attend Robogames anymore?
I'm not planning on taking Tombstone to Robogames this year, as it is tied to the BattleBots events. We will however be there with a few other robots to compete with.
I love you ray..you handsome
