Ashe If she was albino, I’d understand, because albinos, regardless of race, are discriminated against.
They're segregated because they're different, "freaks". She has white hair, which is different and therefore, if anyone finds out, would make her a freak too

I'm still stuck on Addison's main "flaw" being that her blonde hair is extremely blonde, and somehow she thinks it's the same as being systematically oppressed
I don't recall that she ever said that in Z-O-M-B-I-E-S 1. I this movie, she just stated that they both needed to hide their flaws to not get opressed, which she somewhat gets when she shows her hair.
It's more about bad writing than character flaws. Her character became annoying in the second and third but I think she was fine in the 1st
@@AISNeymartrue
@@AISNeymari dont really think that her hate in the first movie was all about her hair. She was singing a song about standing up for the zombies who WERE LITERALLY ALMOST KILLING PEOPLE and then she showed her white hair as if it was equivalent to zombie racism. In my opinion shes equivalent to a redhead who stands up against racism but thinks shes relatable to them because of a doithtly different hair color.
@@k4ss_nymphenkora Well Bucky knew about her hair and based of how he acted, I think it's safe to assume that she was different and needed to hide it.
The Acys even asked if it was an overbite she had that made her different. Or if one leg was shorter than the other. If that's what it takes, it's safe to assume that Seabrook would opress her for her hair.
Only if you goto school in an inner city shithole. My daughter who has blonde hair was constantly made fun of by her black teachers and black school mates. It was from a place of envy and jealousy, as explained to me by the black principal. Get out of your box and expand your mind.

The entire storyline of these movies is just about Addison choosing which minority she wants to fit into.
Also Z-Bands are just Adderal for Zombies
The adderal analogy is actually really good. Taking too little (Zed Zombing out for the football games) or too much (going human to impress Addison’s parents) can really hurt you like messing with the Z-Band does to Zed.

Ok so when I was in my "Twilight" phase as a teen I read the book "Generation Dead" Which is this movie but significantly better. The zombies were more like people with disabilities, the plot was akin to zombie Hairspray where the undead kids had to fight for their rights (with less singing). It was a civil rights allegory but it also touched on ableism and took itself seriously. This seems like a very, very bad adaptation of that book.

"Yes I do." "I have REALLY blonde hair"
Mmmmmm hmmmmm
She lives in a place where her hair color is abnormal and freaky
Yes that was so cringey and tone-deaf. It reminded me of that scene in one of the Kissing Booth movies where Elle's classmate came out to her and was worried about how people would react and whether they'd accept him still and she was like "Ah yes, I too know what it feels like to have to keep secrets and hide things because me and my hot boyfriend had to sneak around behind our friends' and relatives' backs and lie to everyone which ruined all our relationships so I get you."
Like in both cases it's insulting to even compare the two experiences. One is a problem with society at large not accepting certain groups, the other is just . . . her problem. I feel like these moments were put into the script to show the character as empathetic and accepting so they're more likeable, but instead it just makes them come off as naïve and condescending because they have zero self-awareness of anyone else's problems. 🤦
Unicorn of Madness- NOOBGamer- TAV true but still. I kinda wish they had made her big secret weirder than having Daenerys Targaryen hair.

Ngl I really liked zombies, it actually teaches about racism and stuff too
I agree
I mean they tried the “fantasy formula” and it gave them crazy money so now they’re just going nuts
No
Is it just me or does the “zombies act as a racially segregated people” just not work as well as it could.
Yeah, Zootopia was a better done
Well, part of that is the "zombie" makeup sucks ass.
The other, deeper part is, in this world, the zombies are a real danger to the humans and are only "tamed" by some contrived technological macguffin that could fail at any moment, which is counter to real life "underprivileged" minority groups who aren't a danger to "privileged" majority groups and just want equal rights and representation. The metaphorical implication is, real life minority groups are barely contained savages who are just one failure away from destroying society as we know it. That's why it fails as a metaphor; if you swapped out any minority group, say illegal immigrants or black people, for the zombies, then the entire premise of the movie falls apart as it not only becomes horrifically racist, but also paints a completely wrong picture of any minority group you can put into that slot.
metaphors like that are quite often used in the fantasy genre and even if they are executed well, theyre a super double-edged sword. Take True Blood and interview with the Vampire. True Blood's vampires can be read as a metaphor for racial segregation or the treatment of lgbtq people. It's set in the south and the parallels are super obvious. On the one hand, this is super problematic, because those vampires have absolutely zero qualms about killing random people, they are extremely dangerous and contagious, which is especially problematic when you want to read them as gay. This is, however, slightly balanced out by the sheer hate and violence that the humans are capable of. Yes, the vampires are dangerous, but the humans hunt them for sports or torture and brutally punish other humans who dare be friendly with the vampires. It so out of line that the "self-defense" argument falls flat, even if the creatures are dangerous. If you reduce that to a bit of high school squabble, this element is completely taken away and youre left with whatever has happened in this movie.
On the other hand, both True Blood and Interview with the vampire both have a dedicated queer following because they kind of grant those groups superpowers. Its not just repression, these vampires can rip their enemies to shreds. Theyre intimidating and cool. They have their own networks. These tropes will probably always be problematic and Im not sure that there will ever be a way to get them "right".... but THIS movie got it so wrong with their zombies that I want to claw my own eyes out just by watching Alex's video on it. Guess the lesson is... pls dont put zombies and minority metaphors in a disney kids movie. Ever. Pls.
Definetly not because zombies are gentically made to consume other people...I think that's a little different.
Dargonhuman especially when you put this movie against the lenses of Color of Friendship (another DCOM thats around 20 years old now) that touches on racial differences directly in such a way of learning understanding and privilege.
I know there are so many plot holes and cringey stuff but it’s one of my fave movies it just makes me feel happy
Honestly there's no denying, the zombies trilogy has got to be as a thespian one of the coolest things they've come out with. Like we get like all the cheesiness an authentic Broadway musical. But like for both kids and adults. It's also super optimistic like it's not like overly angst you like a lot of others can be like mean girls the musical or Heathers the musical.

Man some people in the comments are like “well Addison is still considered an outcast cuz of her real hair color so the comparison with what the zombies face and what she faces is reasonable” but dude, zombies are literally segregated, treated like shit from everyone(including the principal/other authorities) and are, by all definitions, systematically and societally oppressed. The comparison is similar to saying a white girl with ginger hair being outcasted/bullied for her hair color is somehow comparable to racial segregation/systemic oppression of black people, like sure, nobody should be bullied or outcasted for something as stupid and natural as a dumb hair color, but it’s by NO means comparable to systemic and societal oppression, especially because she (although she shouldn’t have to) can dye her hair to fit the “norm” and the zombies in this world can’t just permanently change into humans or even pass as them for sustainable periods of time.
I know this is an old comment, but Addison actually can’t dye her hair. She literally says, when we are first shown her hair underneath her wig, that she can’t dye it because nothing sticks. It’s still not really comparable except like, barely surface level.

emma add hot Zombies and Disney Original Movie and you got a wonderful movie.
@Amelia C you see it too right. It was literal about it, but I could see it. Its quite obvious. They did it in Descendants too.
@@squidwardtentacles7144 right
That’s what happens with the same writer tries to to work a 3rd teenage romcom dcom
No it's just Descendants Ben and Mal were a hated couple, too (granted, they went about it in different ways) but it's pretty much the same thing
“I hate being different.” “Me too.” “Your not different! Your just like everybody else!” “No I’m not! I’m not like other girls!!!”
I think I remember this movie having slightly stupid acting and dialogue. But now that I realize it, it’s actually much worse than I remember.🤦♂️

Zootopia was a way better Disney movie to pull off an allegory for racism.

While it was slightly better, it still had a ton of problems.

“im not actually blonde.. im REALLY blonde!”
It’s weird how Zed is literally like 66 and dating a 16 yr old
Racism: for kids!: the musical!
There was another Disney movie that tackled racism based on true events. It was called, "The Color Of Friendship." It was a way better movie.
@@spectralight8412 I agree!
Spectra Light The white girl said the N-Word in that movie and it was on Disney channel BAHAHAHA
Zombies could actual represent any marginalized group, this isn’t strictly a conversation about race

Ironically that sounds like a girl named Heather would say

The girl is just stupid as hell LOL
Oxygen is overrated
When I watched the movie and Addison first came on screen, I immediately could see that she was wearing a wig. I was thinking “Did hair and make up give her a bad wig and think that no one would notice??” But then she showed her other hair and I was like “Okay good so they did it on purpose” lol
Wait wait wait, if zombies have a z-band that can be hacked, isn’t there a setting that can turn them permanently human? If it has the technology to GENETICALLY MUTATE a zombie they should’ve just left it on human mode. This whole dilemma doesn’t even need to exist.
Addison is literally the perfect example of people with privilege trying to be relatable and oppressed. 🤦🏾♀️
Literally 💀
in 2021, oppression is a contest
Unfortunately victim mentality is an equal opportunity oppressor. Luckily in most countries today we can all be what we want to be as long as we put the work in and go and do what we want in this life, again, if we put the work in and don’t just accept where we are from whether it be family or environment is our limit. Luckily this is a completely fictional movie for children so we don’t have to let it bother us yah, because that would be silly😉
how? shes just worried her life would be ruined because REMEMBER shes forced to be perfect because 'everyone and everything in seabrook is perfect'
@@alastorhateclub She's still not oppressed, that's like me comparing myself to a black person when I have red hair.
One zombie: wins a football game
Well boys, we did it. Racism is no more
I laughed so hard at this that I started coughing
Gotta love the teen romance show about the girl falling in love with the reanimated human corpse!
Who in gods name greenlit this idea.
"But dad! You don't understand!"
"He kinda looks like Harry Styles in the dark!"
"It's like I won the lottery!!!!"
I feel like the writers don't actually know what a zombie is...
Exactly 😂
Then they wouldn’t know what zombies looked like you freaking idiot
I feel like if this was a cartoony movie, it would be better received. I just feel like the dumb and wacky stuff in the movie would fit with a cartoon style idk why.
@@armandus413 you know zombies are ded so shut the flip up you zombie loving maniac
A zombie is someone who died and just decided to go "nah" and wake up. I feel like the creatures this show is portraying are toxic mutants.
‘Isn’t this Descendants?’ ‘ISN’T THIS JUST A SHITTIER WEST SIDE STORY?!’ ISN’T THIS JUST WEIRDER ROMEO AND JULIET?!?!?!
kateemma22 isn’t this just “Warm Bodies” but in High School?
No not weirder romeo and Juliet this isn't about a 13 year old and a 17-20 year old falling in love and committing suicide because of lust and obsession. yeah nothing weirder then that
"Oxygens so overrated" is the most relatable thing I've ever heard lmao
you gotta admire the fact that the characters broke the 4th wall in their intros
The “zombies” in this movie just look like a bunch of your average generic high school scene kids. I’ve known goths who look more dead then this.
Disney! In live action TV movies, can't get worse than that, lol.
I look more dead than this when I’m at school!
@@customerservice1565 Acne is often caused by weight or something to do with diet, so the average healthy person.
The movie makes me think of racism, like segregation for zombies being the blacks and the normal people being the whites. Different schools that are worse for if your a zombie, and the best schools for the humans, as well as the fact people are afraid of zombies, and zombies are treated worse. There are even signs saying "No Zombies" now just replace zombies with blacks and it would say "No Blacks" so think about it
People who created zombies: horror
Disney: Love.
Reappropriating horror monsters for romance stories has a long and fascinating history. Monsters represent cultural anxieties and recontextualizing them in a romance setting can cause us to reexamine what we fear and why we fear it: i.e. Creature From the Black Lagoon, a representation of the fear of the "wild races" deep in the jungles gets turned into Shape of Water, a movie that says that maybe the monster isn't that different from us. However, it does feel appropriate that Disney took a monster that usually represents mindless consumerism and made a lucrative series out of sympathizing them.
Warm Bodies
Yo Arizona blue you live in Arizona?
Reagan Bartels warm bodies did that already... next!
Soooo in this town if you just put on tonnes of foundation on your face and wear a green wig, you are automatically classified into Zombie?
Yes.

Racism trying to be explained to little kids
It's a decision we all have to make at some point
Squidward Tentacles it’s so badly explained too because the zombies are actually monsters who try to kill people if they aren’t controlled, like what is the director trying to say with this?
Turtle Guy
Yeah the weird racist undertones with the whole zombies thing is..... weird at best. Do they not acknowledge that real life racism exists? If they acknowledge it in the show like “This is like racism, it’s awful” and the whole “zombies are aggressive and need to be controlled” was a hoax or a myth based on prejudice. That would’ve been so much better.
Cordelia Jackson when Zed turned human I expected that to be the twist. I thought they were going to reveal that the bands were actually curing the zombies but still keeping them green to segregate them. That would have been a way better message, but Disney can’t think that deep.
“Don’t leave this basement” 3:02

Doesn't being a in a relationship with a zombie make you a necrophiliac
No, just a semi-necrophiliac.
It makes you a nec-romancer.
TheLastHylianTitan YES 😂
that depends, i remember when reading warm bodies that the main character R had a certain.....something....missing that would make him biologically not able to "have fun" with julie till the end of the book. so, if zeds the same way, no?? i mean does the phillia part of necrophilia apply to just sex or attraction as well??
