This is the gaming channel I have always wanted, someone beating a game in order, explaining what they are doing, so you as viewer get the same experience as playing the game, in a condensed form. Thanks so much for the effort.
Why does this video have the most dislikes out of all the videos you have? I love you man, please don't stop doing videos. Not only is it great to watch you play, it is very well done and you work very hard to give us amazing quality content. Helps me fall asleep too, and the puppy intro is already iconic to me. Thank you very much, I'm a big fan.
Trolls and kids that don't know any better probably. If it's not a call of duty walk through they give it a dislike. The NES doesn't have super awesome graphics so they give it a dislike. Almost guaranteed that it's kids that don't even know what they're disliking lol.
Bionic Commando is MY Spider-Man game! Once you figure out that arm grapple mechanic, it's so satisfying being able to rapidly swing through these levels. It's one of the few NES I can just pick up, instantly recall the gameplay mechanics, and just play it quickly. So great.
The most refreshing retro gaming YT channel. No corny skits and collector porn. Just a guy and his dog teaching us to play NES. Good work dude. Your content is the future.
You've really got something here with this channel. Even if the UA-cam algorithm hasn't caught on to it yet, please don't stop what you're doing. No one else is doing laid-back yet informative deep dives like this. Your videos are great to learn from and also great to just watch when you want to zone out. You're like the Bob Ross of NES games. Calm and friendly while also educating about mastery if people want to up their game. Or if they just want to watch you paint a pretty picture. Whatever works for them at the moment. Whaaaaatever. Happy little clouds. Request: Please do Wizards & Warriors 1 for NES next.
Thanks so much, Bryan! I love Bob Ross' style, so that's really great to hear! Nobody requested Wizards and Warriors yet, but I've had it starred on my list as a game I wanted to cover, anyways. It's one I personally like. It's not too difficult, but there's a lot of cool tricks and interesting stuff. Plus, I also like Wizards and Warriors 2 (which is MUCH harder), so I wanted to start with the first game. So, yeah, I'll definitely be covering Wizards and Warriors sometime soon!
The toughest thing about playing this as a kid in the '80s was that it LOOKED like a game like Contra, but the gameplay is instead very deliberate and slow - you can't take anything fast (except for those hectic boss battles), you have to plan every single shootout and platforming moment.
This game is such a masterpiece! I went through ALOT of trial & error but it was all worth it when I finally beat it! It is an amazing experience. Excellent vid!
I just discovered your channel about a week ago, and love it. After watching several videos, I was actually thinking of this exact game and was hoping you would cover it. It’s a classic, but I never could beat it. Although I did get to the final boss wants.
Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate all the hard work that goes into your videos. You've definitely inspired me to try beating some of my old NES games I previously found so difficult. I haven't gotten through Bionic Commando yet, but your video definitely helped improve my skills. Once you get used to the game mechanics it really is a blast to play.
My cousin introduced me to this game back when we were youngsters and I've been a big fan of it ever since. The NES is my favorite system of all time. That was truly the golden era for me. It has all my favorite classics. They just don't make them like they used to. The games nowadays don't have any soul. The same applies to newer movies too. I'll take the old stuff every day of the week! Great walkthrough also.
It's interesting that the original creator of Roc'n Rope turned it into something different like this, but Konami used it as it was to make Arumana no Kiseki for the Famicom Disk System.
Bionic Commando is one of my all-time favorite NES games, and holds the distinction of being the very first video game I ever pulled an all-nighter to beat! I started sometime around 10:30 PM on a Saturday, took a break sometime after midnight, then resumed playing and didn't stop until I beat the game about five hours later as the sun was coming up Sunday morning! I got stuck several times and had to go fight helicopters on the overhead map for continues from time to time to keep going, which is why it took so long. But in the end I prevailed, and the cheesy ending (and the bragging rights) were well worth all the time and effort! Thanks for the wonderful trip down memory lane with this video and stay safe out there!
Just found your channel recently and binged on almost all of them so far! Brings back so many memories ! I used to rent bionic commando every freakin weekend from the local mom and pop video store back in the day
Thanks, Mario! I'm glad you're enjoying the channel! I would usually rent games at the local drug store, called Phar-More. They actually had a lot to pick from, and you could keep them for 2 nights, which was nice. We didn't get a Blockbuster until later when I had the SNES. I remember when the drug store stopped doing rentals, and they put all of the games on sale. I think my mom let me buy 3 games (or maybe I got 1 and my brothers each got to pick one, but let's just say that I strongly influenced their picks) - it was so awesome to own a couple of my favorites that I had rented so many times.
I never owned this game but It was one I rented quite a few times back in the day (I probably could've owned it given the rental fees). I came about half-way to beating it, but never quite managed it. I just defeated it, thanks to this video and the ROM loaded arcade I bought. I'm having so much fun revisiting the games of my youth that seemed impossible and dominating them now. The tips and tricks provided in videos like yours make this possible! I'm in my mid 40's with a family, job and responsibilities now and I just don't have the time the for all the exploring and trial and error, that I did as a kid, so thanks for saving me the hours of effort these games usually take to master. I have completed so many games I never thought I would. The world may be going to hell, but I'm still having fun!
Mad props man, to tell you the truth I was doing this way back when. I think I still have a VHS tape with this and Legend of Zelda play throughs, we are talking late 80s early 90's. all my friends thought I was crazy for recording the NES playythroughs. If I only knew, and developed it further, I would also be streaming, 30 years later, lol. You brought back a lot of good memories of being young.
That's so cool! I'm sure I have a VHS with me finishing some games like Final Fantasy 3 (6) and Link to the Past. And whatever I made on Mario Paint. Didn't manage to save any plays from the NES era, that would be super fun to watch back.
In the original game, the bionic arm wasn't a replacement arm, it was attached to his arm. This is why he's grabbing the rope at the end. See the box art.
Bionic Commando was one of my favorite games as a kid. This, Commando, Smash TV, Zelda, and Metroid were my favorite. I loved how you were like Spider-man in this game and could swing. There were some games that bordered on being in my favorites but were to hard for me at that time, Double Dragon, Castlevania, Mega Man, Ninja Gaiden, MNTurtles, XMen to name a few.
Those are some good ones! I just got Smash TV recently - I always had it for SNES, but didn't know about the NES version where you play with 2 controllers - that's so fun!
Am I the only one who watches these videos and imagines it's the doggo talking like Duke in the Bush's Baked Beans commercials? Since the narrator never reveals his name, never mind his face, this gives me much enjoyment.
I love your channel because almost of all the video game channels for NES games are speed runs and only show glitches and the most straight forward path to beat the game but you show everything and show people how to actually get everything and also alternative ways to win that takes a lot more care and quality person to do instead of the rush job that's so popular right now online
I came across your channel a few days ago in regards to your Crystalis playthrough and it was absolutely fantastic. As a lifelong NES player, your channel strikes the best balance between commentary, walkthrough, humor, and satisfying strategies to beat these games. Well done! Subscribed and looking forward to more content.
I love how you find such simple ways to make these difficult games more manageable. I hope The Guardian Legend is on your to do list. I'd really like to see your take on it, and I'm sure it's right up your alley, with the kinds of games you've done so far.
One of my favorite games back in the day. When i was really little and this game was brand spankin new i used to seriously spend up to an hour just swinging back and forth on the very first light. Just swinging out over the water then letting go, and swinging back. I couldn't really play the game, i just had fun swinging around the place.
After combing through all your videos so far, this one is my favorite! I have this game, but never had the ambition to play it until now. In fact, your channel makes me want to comb through all of my NES games and finish them! Awesome stuff man, definitely keep it up!
This is giving me nostalgic PTSD. This game crushed my soul when I was a kid. My brother and I tried for months and months to beat this game only to fail over and over and over and over. Being a gamer well into my 40s, gives me an advantage in modern gaming. Retro games were soooo much harder
Something not mentioned for those very new to the game, anytime in the missions that you want to see how many bullets you need to get to the next level press start (or select it’s been awhile🤷♂️) the pause screen will show the overhead view and down at the bottom it will show current bullets\how many bullets to get to next upgrade eg. 20/30.
I remember the Nintendo power layout of this one as a kid. Another legendary entry for the channel my friend. I didn't know half the things you showed here. So glad you're doing this for us nostalgia junkies. 👍
This game is on my top ten NES games right off the bat. It's really fucking difficult, but so satisfying to finish...music was so awesome too, it really put you in the mood to keep pushing forward.
Ah yes, Bionic Commando, this brings back memories. Back in the day I borrowed this cartridge from a friend over the summer holidays and played this a lot. It was really difficult at first, but eventually I managed to get so good at this game that I played it through all the way every day of that holiday. Must have finished the game more than 30 times. But you still showed me a couple of tricks I didn’t know, like knocking the soldier in the neutral zone into the water with the claw. Thanks for the nostalgia-filled memories.
Another terrific video! The game controls took some getting used to, but I really liked the different game play style and character concept. Once you understood how to play and got comfortable with the controls, it was a lot of fun. Thanks for all your work putting these walkthroughs together!
Wife got me one of those boxes that have all the Nintendo games on it.... went back and beat Bionic Comando... 20 years later 😂... thank you for the walk through ❤
I was in elementary school when I first encountered this game. Initially I found it really hard but quickly got hang of it. After many hours of struggles I was able to defeated the final boss (after numerous death when I tried to get underneath of the helicopter). There were absolutely no instructions at that time and all were done with trial and errors, and an English-to-Chinese dictionary. Been very proud of that I believe I was the only kid around the neightbourhood who actually made all the way through the game.
One of my most rented games. Each time I rented it would take like 30-60 minutes to get used to the game mechanics as a kid, so it felt so new each time. I don't think I ever beat it, if I did it would have been with a game genie code. Ending was familiar but I don't think I got it fair and square. Might have been watching my brother beat it.
I do the same thing with this game - at first I just want to be able to jump like in any other game, but you quickly adapt and then the Bionic arm feels so natural. It's really amazing how well the controls work.
I've seen walkthroughs before, but your clear manner and your unrushed speaking style is what sets yours apart. My 10 yr old self was cheering when you made that albatros shot, since I struggled w/the timing of that. What a strange way to end the game, you swing out w/no frame of reference and are just expected to press the button at precisely the right time or it's a failure. I accomplished that shot once. Today's kids have no idea how much harder games used to be. If you could apply the same workmanlike strategy to Ghosts N Goblins or Wizards and Warriors, that would be impressive since I view those at difficult games. I saw someone mention Rygar in the comments, agree that's another great, time consuming game.
Thanks for covering this, one of my favorites of all time. I wish more games had utilized the arm swing mechanic. I can't recommend the remake enough, fans of the original will love it.
A second game (with Blaster Master) that I finished for the first time with your help! Thanks a lot for allowing me to see this wonderful cheezy ending.
Brother I've wanted to play this game since i was a kid and just never got the chance, later on i decided to get a retron 2 so i can revisit old favorites and the very first game i found in my local shop was Bionic commando, and with the help of your video i finally beat it!!! Thank you so much!!! Btw in the ending Lad IS grabbing on to the chopper by his bionic arm and that's Joe's hand holding the cable from it.
Fantastic channel. I've been sharing with my boys. Many of these games my brother and I never owned. If we played, it was at a friend's house, and we rotated after we lost a life. Needless to say, most games we never saw past level 1 or 2, including Bionic Commando or Metal Gear.
I've never really PLAYED Bionic Commando before. One of those ones I've tested carts and been meaning to but just haven't had the time. Hopefully soon. Great video as always!
I did a video on game genie codes for this game on my channel. Commando's main character's name is Super Joe? Is this real!?! Wow!! I had no idea. Though - it makes me want to play Commando now. Truly great videos man - keep them coming!
@@UCanBeatVideoGames That's awesome. I did not know that. I also added your video to the end of my description on my video. :) "If you want to beat it for real, visit...." for ya. It doesn't even have 100 views yet but still. :) Again - nice work!
No, I didn't know that! I wonder what it would have been like? Seems like a weird one for the arcade format, I assume it would have been a lot different.
My brother (gone now) and I played the hell out of this game in 198X. We never figured out what the iron boots were for, thanks for explaining that! (We thought the iron boots would allow you to walk over spiked floors, but we found out that wasn't it!)
The original Commando was the first NES game I bought besides the games that came with with my NES, ie Duck Hunt and Gyromite. Played that game so much my thumb had a dent that hurt for days. When I saw Bionic Commando at my cousin's house, I wasn't sure it was actually a "sequel" to Commando since it's so different. But I started to get used to it and eventually got my own copy. One of my favorite NES games still. Downloaded the "Re-armed" remakes and got the sequel game too. But the original NES is still my favorite.
I remember this game being awesome back in the day. I liked the map and top-down play a lot too. Also thundercade. Btw, "Master D" was my nickname in college
hey i just found this channel a few days ago, your content is awesome the attention to detail in your videos is keeping me coming back. I remember growing up in the 80s and some of these games gave me such a hard time. Keep it up man this is my new favorite channel.
Great guide, made the game easier to beat for me. I beat the Remake and the "modern" version of BC but not this classic. But I did today! Loved it. Instant classic. Thanks!
You made me not a follower but a fan mate. Keep it raining other episodes! (btw first time i've learned that this game even existed). Also love the V.O. work.
I loved that game. One of the few games I ever beat on Nintendo as a kid. Also, I just bought it again at retro gaming store. Love it. Gonna try some of those tricks tho. THANKS
I've known (and played) this game for many years but never even knew that about the continues token. Maybe with this info one day I can finish this legit (like no Game Genie or nothing). Great video and I look forward to more of these
Thanks! The first few times I played this, I wondered how anyone would be able to beat this game with no continues, but turns out you just have to find them.
Great video it brings back a lot of memories, I remember using another strategy to shoot hittler's chopper, what I used to do was falling to the spikes then shoot.
Nice video, man! Reminds me of those old Game Player’s VHS tapes. I was surprised to see that the pendant was a cross - I know Nintendo of America was super touchy about having any religious iconography back in the day.
This is the gaming channel I have always wanted, someone beating a game in order, explaining what they are doing, so you as viewer get the same experience as playing the game, in a condensed form. Thanks so much for the effort.
Thanks!! That's exactly what I was going for!
And he starts out with history stuff. And you can play along too except when he speeds through grindy parts.
This is the channel I wish I had created.
I agree. This channel makes me feel like I'm 6 again watching my older bro dominate games
Agreed
Why does this video have the most dislikes out of all the videos you have? I love you man, please don't stop doing videos. Haters going to hate!!! He knows what he’s worth and nothings going to stop this train.
That's just the salty people who can't beat the game.
People are mad that he put down Hitler. Crazy world.
Trolls and kids that don't know any better probably. If it's not a call of duty walk through they give it a dislike. The NES doesn't have super awesome graphics so they give it a dislike. Almost guaranteed that it's kids that don't even know what they're disliking lol.
You don’t need to pay attention to likes and dislikes.
Bionic Commando is MY Spider-Man game! Once you figure out that arm grapple mechanic, it's so satisfying being able to rapidly swing through these levels. It's one of the few NES I can just pick up, instantly recall the gameplay mechanics, and just play it quickly. So great.
YES! It's a bit of a shame that the people who made the actual Spider Man game didn't take some notes from this one.
I had Spiderman on atari. Bionic commando was way more fun lol
I played the hell out of Bionic Commando. Love this game so much.

Another terrific video! The game controls took some getting used to, but I really liked the different game play style and character concept. Once you understood how to play and got comfortable with the controls, it was a lot of fun. Thanks for all your work putting these walkthroughs together!
Might be the best music the NES ever put out.
Great content. Leading off with the dev team, laying out the history. Audio is solid, editing is solid, gameplay is top. Great content.
Wife got me one of those boxes that have all the Nintendo games on it.... went back and beat Bionic Comando... 20 years later 😂... thank you for the walk through ❤
I used to live this game. It was so different from anything else and I remember being so proud when I finished it.
This game mechanic is very interessting. The swings give it its own kind of dynamic.
I really like watching you play this games. Love your channel. ^^
Man this channel is underrated! These videos are great!

I used to play the hell out of this game as a kid. I think I might need to pull old NES back out and try again. Thanks for the review.
The map of this games looks just like Section Z map. Speaking of Section Z, that'd be one to go over in the future. Its really good but hsrd.
Section Z is fun, I might do that at some point.
Oh man does this take me back. I got this set for my 8th birthday. Loved it so much! Tha ks for doing a video about it!!!
very cool game- Thanks, Steve!
One of my all time favorite NES platformers!!
Thanks Bits! This game is really cool, definitely worth a second look. Thanks for watching!
I did a video on game genie codes for this game on my channel. Commando's main character's name is Super Joe? Is this real!?! Wow!! I had no idea. Though - it makes me want to play Commando now. Truly great videos man - keep them coming!
Thanks! He was unnamed in the arcade, but become Super Joe for the NES version of Commando!
@@UCanBeatVideoGames That's awesome. I did not know that. I also added your video to the end of my description on my video. :) "If you want to beat it for real, visit...." for ya. It doesn't even have 100 views yet but still. :) Again - nice work!
Thanks, Nick! I'll have to check it out, that's really cool!
Play Gun Smoke. It has a similar gameplay as Commando. Thanks for revisiting some of my childhood favorite games.
I like Gunsmoke! Innovative control scheme in that one!
One of my all time favorite games ever.
Such a cool game. It's sad we didn't get a whole series on the NES and then SNES or Sega
Dude this is my new favorite channel! Great work! Pls keep em coming 👊👍
Thanks man!
Still one of my favorites for the NES
This was my FUUUUUUCKING favorite, the mission 5 melody changed my life
“That definitely ain’t Charlie Chaplin.” 🤣
I love your channel man! We need to get in touch. I followed you on Twitter too.
Oh, wow! Your channel is big time! Thank you so much!
Awesome hidden gem! Have it in collection but never really gave it a solid try. I'll definitely try it now!
Gotta love making the enemy bases explod!
🤣🤣🤣 Definitely let me know if you beat it!
I love these reimagined arcade games on the NES.
I really like when they add some extra layers of depth. This game really shows the best of what these kind of games can be
@@UCanBeatVideoGames Did you know Blaster Master, of all games, was supposed to have an arcade game as well?
We all know the dogo plays and the Hooman just talks. Hooman doing such a good job!
Thanks Joseph!
Great guide, made the game easier to beat for me. I beat the Remake and the "modern" version of BC but not this classic. But I did today! Loved it. Instant classic. Thanks!
The music 💗💗💗💗 excellent video per usual comrade! :)
Thanks Harry!! Awesome soundtrack here.
One of my favorite NES games growing up.
This game was terrific. I did beat it as a kid, but it took a very long time.
Since you did Bionic Commando, you gotta do Rygar :D
I love Rygar! It's high on my list of games to cover!
@@UCanBeatVideoGames Heck yaaaaaaaaaa!
Stay tuned!
I like how you just omit the Grin Software TPS starring the aggression core from portal, and his dead wife who is also his right hand.
You made me not a follower but a fan mate. Keep it raining other episodes! (btw first time i've learned that this game even existed). Also love the V.O. work.
That's awesome, thanks Emre! I got a lot of ideas for more episodes, already working on the next one!
Really enjoy your intros man. Good stuff.
Not saying the overall is bad. But I especially like the start
I don't take offense from that at all - I put a lot of time into those intros. Thanks!!
Yoru voice is so soothing, this turned into
Retro Gaming ASMR for me. 😊❤️🇵🇭
That dog is treasure.
He's a really good boy!
@@UCanBeatVideoGames
He radiates loyalty and integrity. Awesome.
this was hands down one of my favorite NES games. So unique for the time.
That surprised me too! They cleaned up sooo much of this game for localization that it surprises me they didn't just change it
Thanks for helping me finally beat this hard ass game! You’re a life saver! 😅
