@@Sapphire867 cause people can stop an adoption, not many people can stop a birth. I'm against abortion btw but people can change after they give birth so if they did do a test before wanting to conceive a kid would they have to do it after? And if they fail what would happen to the kid? Not all adoption centers nor foster homes are great either, even foster parents can be great when they first get the foster kid but end up being assholes too...

If anyone's wondering, yes CPS really does send a full report to your parents if you call them. And yes it gets more children beaten and/or killed than anyone wants to admit. CPS does nothing helpful 99% of the time
Edit: this is the most liked comment so i felt i should clarify a couple things. CPS in the US isn't entirely bad, however my job (that i had up until i got pregnant and had to switch practices) exists solely because of CPSs incompetence and indifference to actual abuse cases. It's true they can only do so much but the sheer amount of people they don't help is unfathomable.
I hated my old job. Yes it was a job i knew i was helping people and it did feel great to help them but i hated that my job existed. And when someone asked about my job i could never answer honestly without crying "I just took on a new client whos 14 and has no legs because his dad got drunk, shot him and he had to have them amputated. Now he wants to live with his aunt but the dad is refusing to give up custody so he won't lose any unemployment benifits"
Also it's true the foster care system is full of children CPS has helped by removing them from their homes. But the system is completely overrun and its part of why CPS is so ineffective. People don't want to deal with "problem children" so very very few are fostering the children that so desperately want and deserve to be loved and kept safe.

This is pretty much what's wrong with CPS though. They will avoid removing the child at all costs if the child is scared of or wants to get away from their parent, thinking they can just counsel away the "dysfunctional family" (which means falsely treating everyone in the family as if they have equal power, so as not to offend to abusers, which makes the kids pissed, which makes them look like the instigator since years of childhood abuse and shitty parenting leads to no emotional regulation, and using that they gaslight the kid into as if they're responsible for their parents' behavior in front of the parents who are eating that shit up since they don't have to take responsibility for their actions). Then they get someone who's just fallen on hard times and separate the family. Really it should be the other way around and they get financial aid for poor families

I have a friend, he's 16. We met on discord and we're in a chat with several other people ranging from 15-23.
My friend's mom constantly mentally abused him. Tells him he's useless, worthless, threatens to put his guinea pig down (he love that guinea pig like you don't even know). His dad is a deadbeat who still lives there, no job, just sleeps all day and is up all night playing Madden and other stupid games on the computer. His mom is disabled in some way, I'm not sure but I think she might be schizophrenic or something. But she says all these terrible things about him and expects him to practically be a mind reader, but the moment he says anything (even in agreement), he's wrong. Anything he says or does is wrong. And I feel so bad for him. I don't think it's ever scaled to physical abuse and I hope to God it hasn't. He only lives a few hours away from me and I'm always telling him if I need to go get him I can and I told him when he's 18 if it's that bad I will go get him so he can stay with me. I love all my friends in that group, but I am very protective over everyone (they consider me the mom friend) and if I could I'd gather everyone up to take care of them. I guess he'd even told his mom about me and she agreed that if he wanted to see me that badly she'd drive down and meet up with me. Y'all don't know how bad I'd love to meet this kid, and get him away from his terrible home environment.

I'm in that weird phase of life where I'm mature enough to act more adult-like than my teachers but I sleep with a toy otter. In my area, this kind of stuff is so common it's really sad. Everyone I know has been neglected, emotionally and physically abused, suicidal, uses self-harm as a coping mechanism, is severely depressed, and has probably been traumatized. no one does anything about it, even when kids left and right are confessing to being so afraid of their parents. One of my best friends in 6th grade had gone to drug deals with her father and hinted at being sexually abused by his friends. She was malnourished and only ate ketchup, and she was the sweetest little cinnamon roll you'd ever meet. When I hear stories like this, I want to hug every last one of those poor children and give them a good, hot meal and a bath. Seriously, I stole from the fridge to give one of my starving friends some food. Nothing has been done, for any of them. My sister's friend was abused by her boyfriend, who threatened suicide and almost sold nude pictures of her. Y'know what happened? Nothing. my sister refuses to call the police because she's scared of what would happen to her friend. I get traumatized just thinking of some of the worse things that I've witnessed, and I'm still only a kid. It's horrible, and none of them deserve it.

Obligatory “not a teacher but” story, but my grandmother used to work in a daycare with plenty of very small children, including several infants and toddlers. The daycare had a policy that if a child was asleep when dropped off, the parent had to wake the child and show they were healthy before they would take custody of the child. When my grandmother asked about it, the owner of the daycare explained it was because they had encountered parents who would severely beat a child, sometimes even breaking bones, and then drug them with enough cough syrup to knock them out. Then they would drop the kid off at the daycare and try to cover their asses when they came back and ‘discovered’ their child severely injured by the ‘monsters’ at the daycare. Thankfully my grandmother never actually had that worst case scenario happen on them but several of the other day care workers said they had a few times where a parent refused to do just that, and walk off in a huff. Needless to say they called the cops on each and every one of them.

I've thought about that too, but I think things would get messy pretty quick. A whole legal structure would have to arise to address enforcement and monitoring. Politicians and courts would have to figure out how to punish people for having unprotected sex without intent and verified competency to raise a child. This would be a particular challenge with teenagers. Questions would arise such as, can a cop arrest someone in the act of having unprotected sex? What measures do you take to verify whether or not fertile people have unprotected sex? Rape kits? Drug tests? Do you start verifying peoples' fertility? Do you start sterilizing repeat offenders? What are the long-term consequences of all this? How do you protect civil liberties while implementing this?
Individuals would be hiding unlawful kids from the system to avoid punishment and putting unlawfully birthed children up for adoption at greater rates, taxing the foster care complex. A black market could potentially form as individuals rejected from child rearing seek illegal means of acquiring children. Forced abortions could be be enacted, but that'd lead to a lot of people being traumatized from having to abort their illegal fetuses.
The system to verify child rearing competency would be an inevitable cluster fuck. Privileged individuals would inevitably be favored over non-previleged, leading to issues of discrimination. Corruption, to some extent, would arise, as people figured out ways to grease the gears to getting their child rearing licence. The whole licensing apparatus would cost a ton of tax payer money and require many intricate layers of bureaucracy. Trying to privatize the affair in any way would be an unmitigated disaster.
The results of making child rearing a regulated industry would not be pretty on neither a legal, ethical, cultural nor systemic level. But I understand where the sentiment for such a system comes from.

A few months after I was born, my bio dad left. (I still contact him today he’s pretty nice) but my mom married another man. (My step father who I HATE) John Eric Talkington. Anyway, he abused us a bit. He would step on my fingers a lot and I know at least some of the time it was on purpose. He also burned me and my siblings hands with hot water. He would serve us food and if we weren’t hungry enough to finish it he’d hit us with the belt. Twice he hit me with the metal end. Once he even threatened me and one of my sisters with a pan. My mom was working to become a lawyer so she was hardly home. Whenever she would come home I’d be running to her with very red thighs from being spanked. Almost every night my parents would fight and us kids couldn’t sleep.some nights me and my brother would sit on the stairs and listen. I didn’t like to sleep alone so often times I’d sleep in their room. I was too scared to be near my step father though. I’d sleep/hide behind chairs the most of the time. A lot of times I’d cry myself to sleep because of the constant fighting. I never knew it was bad though, I thought this was how all dads were. He kicked our dog for no reason and she’s traumatized of tall people now. We went to 2 counselors and they helped plan a divorce.one of my favorite teachers was a school counselor. I trusted her. She ended up telling my dad to get a divorce and calling my mother a horrible and abusive mother in court. She locked us in our rooms for a reasonable amount of time. (As punishment) we ended up getting kicked out of our house (by my dad) and had to move. (Me, my mom, my oldest sister, and my brother.) School was starting soon and we needed to get our stuff from the house. It was pouring rain and my father locked us out. I called the police so he would let us in. He said I was stupid for calling the police for that reason. On my eighth birthday my sister, (second oldest was stuck with him so was my sister closest in age.) was talking to me. He told her to come home and she refused. He called the police and she had to go home. Later he moved to Nevada and me and my mom took my 2 sisters to the airport. (Due to some of my fathers lying in court she had lost the fight for custody) they left and me and my mom bawled the way home. I still miss my sisters. The court had prevented all of us but my oldest sister from contacting each other. Later we saw another counselor and she decided we shouldn’t see my sisters. Still mad about that. My father made me feel worthless. After we had to move I also had to move schools which was awful. I got called kitty, pet, and was meowed at, petted, and stuff like that all of my third grade year. In fourth grade some of my “friends” had said that nobody should be my friend and that I should kill myself. They thought I couldn’t hear them. I almost listened to them. I’m doing better now but still a bit traumatized. Never called the cops except to get in. Never called CPS. He still did much more but I wanna leave that there. If you ever meet John Eric Talkington he lives in Nevada, and he’s an engineer. If you meet him.... tell him his daughter hasn’t forgot.

Unfortunately in some cases its best to leave the situation and run away if you dont think they will believe you. Some children have to resort to suicide before these things are even discovered. Some people should never ever be parents and completely advocate that these parents have their privates mutilated that when they use the bathroom it is unbearable and i would be ok with a lobotomy. They wouldnt have any base human rights under any convention.

One of my coworkers best friend killed him self because it took CPS over a year to even talk to him. They are a very screwed up organization and need to be replaced. Screw all of them.

CPS.. Or “DCS” in my area
    Is so flawed
    It hurts
    Why?
You have stories like the ones in 7:27
Where children were in need of DESPERATE HELP and weren’t given any
And then you have mine (Lmao tragic backstory time)
When I was a kid my brother used to sexually harass me. I never told my mom because I was scared to get scolded because I believed it was my fault. It went on for years because I was scared of saying anything but eventually I did fess up when my mom found a vibrator in my room when I was 11.
Simply happened because she asked me where I got it.
    And I said my brother.
We were handling it well on our own
Our mother talked to my bro about it and he confessed
    He apologized to me
We weren’t aloud to be alone together anymore
    Both went to counseling
.. But then a counselor called DCS
And within weeks they took my brother and I away from my loving mother who didn’t do anything wrong,
We were in foster care for a year.. Or group homes
He didn’t mind his home but-
    My home was terrible.
We were restricted to the point where we weren’t living anymore
    Literally just surviving
    Everything I did was “sexual”
Couldn’t wear skirts or dresses (not that I wanted to anyways)
Worst thing was that I’m Pansexual
And I once kissed a girl
    And well-
My home was mostly Catholic so-
    I had no friends
    Nobody to hug
    Nobody to cry with
I could only talk to my mom once a week and only for 10 minutes WITH SUPERVISION
She couldn’t even know the suffering I endured and even now, two years after all of this I still have troubles telling her without breaking down.
I now have severe anxiety and depression
    All because of DCS
If you get anything out of this entire video or comment it’s this:
    CPS, or DCS
    They ruin children’s lives
    By interfering when they shouldn’t
Or not getting involved at all
    Don’t trust them
    They won’t help you
They’re in it for the PROFIT.
Thank you for listening to my TEDTalk.

Sounds kind of like what I went through. My mom got with an abusive guy and they decided being alcoholics and beating my brother and I were fun. Brother had been taken away by CPS (DCF in my area but was called SRS back when I was in care) as a young child from a baby sitter who my parents hadnt fully vetted. They got him back but not before he, at 2 yrs old, was molested by a 4 yr old girl who the foster home KNEW had been molested! So he got home and would molest ME (I lived with my maternal great grandparents from 4 months to 2 yrs. Brother is ~15 months older) I guess I told my grandma who told grandpa but also told him not to say anything about it (he told mom this when I was /7/ after grandma passed.) So for nearly 7 years or so I was being molested when he could have had HELP (Thanks a lot for failing me gram.) That was when the physical abuse got worse. Any show of affection/niceness to me from my brother or to my brother from me was seen as "sexual" and we got beat for it. I remember our ex step loser actually kicking us because we hollared "good night" to each other from our beds in our own bedrooms! Anyway DCF (SRS at that point) stepped in the morning mom and ex step loser had a huge blow out fight. We went to school after having obviously cried and we never went back home. Then the state decide bro would go to my dad (the GOOD parent) and I'd go back to mom after they both did a series of classes. Dad did his. Bro only spent 6 months in care. Mom didnt do SHIT and I was forced to spend 8 years bouncing through 27 different placements. That racked me up to 10 different schools (not counting the ones from moving with my mom before going into care.) This includes 4 highschools in my first 2 years of highschool before going to my dad. (Bro turned 18 and moved out.) I had a couple of "good" foster parents in the beginning but after that they were just all using me for the paycheck they got and the free maid service I could provide. As of now I'm 31, have severe social anxiety and one of the worst cases of ptsd you can have outside a warzone and living off under $900 a month of Scocial security (about half is Disability with the other half being supplementary security income because even the feds know that disability payout is shit.) CPS really fucked me over.

it makes me happy to see how many of these stories had a happy ending involving cps but man cps does not give 2 shits about foster families and their foster child. my parents were foster parent for a handful of years and there were so many situations where we wanted to intervene but couldn't because we weren't legally allowed to. My parents would often end up spending about 10 fold of what CPS actually gave them to take care of the foster. I remember once a foster child's dad spent the night at my house because of bonding or something (i honestly do think it helped in the end), but jesus christ i was so scared because the father was known to be abusive and a drug addict. Another kid had mental illnesses but we couldn't take them to a councilor because of legal reasons with the parents. The kid had around 5 siblings and they were all separated eventually. I really hope there's better CPS in other states because i feel like there is very little funding given to the one in mine

Here in Canada (or at least Ontario) it is slightly better but not entirely. My cousin, also a mother who works for CPS helps take care of kids with mental disabilities (ADD, Autism, PTSD etc.) and she tries to help them lead a happy life. Although sadly sometimes the kids go back to their abusive parents or end up moving to a different area where the workers are not as loving or nice as she is. Sometimes CPS doesn’t help but makes it worse.

When I was a little child and went to school with bruises all over me, the teachers just were told to look the other way, one teacher felt I needed to be punished because I wasn't smart enough, so he sent a letter home, my dad beat me until he was exhausted. At the time I didn't know but my dad had damaged a nerve in my hip, I still to this day limp, The reason I wasn't doing well in school was I was being abused at home and I was having a had time concentrating. The sad thing is when a child is a punching bag for their parents it seems to encourage every bully to hit and harm them also. I am so glad that they have CDS and I hope the children are in a much safer place once taken from their hateful parents.

My mother's told me this story a few times:
She's the youngest of four sisters. The oldest, we'll call her Hannah, is ~20 years older than my mom. The second oldest, we'll call her Rachel, is ~12 years older than my mom. When my mom was a child, she'd spend her summers at Hannah's house.
Their dad wasn't around and Grandma was rather ...negligent as a parent. Rachel took after grandma in the area of alcohol consumption, smoking, and sleeping around. She had a different guy over every week, which wouldn't exactly be a huge problem, except she'd choose to spend her money on "date nights," alcohol, and cigarettes instead of taking care of her infant son.
She'd leave her son with Hannah quite frequently, usually with filthy diapers, terrible diaper rash, and moldy sippy cups of spoiled milk. Hannah had called CPS before, but they never did anything. So finally, one day when my mom's about 10 years old, Hannah tells her to get in the car and buckles up Rachel's son to take him to CPS offices to show them what kind of state he's been left in.
Rachel shows up to Hannah's house to pick up her son, only to find everyone gone. (Hannah had told Rachel multiple times that she was going to get CPS involved.) So what does Rachel do? She calls the police and tells them Hannah _ripped_ her son from her arms and kidnapped him, _and_ that Hannah was armed (which she wasn't. I mean, she owned a gun, but it was still in her house).
So of course, the police are looking for Hannah's car. My mom - again, she's like 10 at the time - was in tears and nearly soiled herself when they were pulled over and surrounded by police with guns drawn screaming at Hannah to get on the ground.
They never charged Hannah with anything. They never charged Rachel with anything, either. And CPS was involved, and actually had custody of Rachel's son for a few days and ultimately decided that _apparently_ she was a decent mother and gave him back to her.
Rachel's son is in his 30's now, and he has no contact with her, as that neglect continued through the rest of his childhood and CPS failed to do _anything_ about it.

I legit only just realised what happened when I was a child.
When I was in year 5 ( 9 years old ) I started acting differently, I was starting to refuse to speak to people I stopped talking to my friends and I just cut myself off of all forms of closeness to anyone, I remember I did this because every time I spoke at home I would either get ignored or yelled at and my friends started bullying me so one day I just stopped talking to make sure I would never get yelled at or bullied ever again, my teacher noticed my change in behaviour and she tried to talk to me but I refused but she noticed I read a lot of books and decided this is how she was going to gain my trust, first she just started small conversations about the books and then I started talking to her more and then one day she asked me why I stopped talking and when I told her what happened she had a meeting with my mum and referred me to a child psychologist, I remember after that meeting my mum was super angry and she was swearing about how the teacher was rude and I was terrified that I did something wrong and she grounded me for telling the teacher that she was a bad parent, and when my mum grounded me she stopped talking to me and pretended I didn’t exist and because I had no friends she decided that instead of not letting me see my friends I would be locked in my room for hours with no books. After that happened I stopped speaking to my teacher again and then refused to talk to the psychologist. At the time I had such hatred for this teacher because she made my mum mad but I just realised that she was trying to help , I really want to find this teacher and just thank her, she is the only one that has ever tried to help and my mum still refuses to let me see a psychologist because in her mind it will be proof that she is a bad parent. I suspect I have ptsd but I can’t get it diagnosed and in Australia I can’t see a psychologist without a parent knowing about it until I’m 18. I suspect she didn’t call CPS because I ate well, I was always wearing the best shoes and new uniforms and I was never physically hurt but she saw straight through my mum and tried to help. I am so grateful for her.

One day I called the cops myself and told the cops, all the reports I'd given were documented at the school and both my dad and stepmother were arrested (( both on heavy drugs and fighting at the time of arrest ))and their children (my step siblings) were put into foster care but thankfully it ended up being with a church couple who treated them very well! I wish I'd had an adult at that time who cared like these people do ! (: it warms my heart to see that people do look for the signs of abuse and report them. Please never stop !!!!!

My parents aren’t abusive but yeah as soon I don’t need them, I will require scissors. I remember some terrible shit they’ve done. My dad hanging my favorite stuffed animal over the guardrail of stairs when I was ten because k kept throwing stuffed animals at him. The time I tried playing Defender PS2 with my dad and had the worst time ever, only to forced to finish because I “had to learn how to lose.” What the fuck does that mean!? One time I thought I had broken my Xbox (this was only a couple weeks ago) and my mom scolding saying that if I didn’t control my anger I would one day end up killing someone because in her mind, that’s how murderers work. Now now, say what you will, say what you will, but I SHOULD’VE at least beat her to the ground right there and then. That Xbox is my life and my nearly sole source of joy right now (thank god it’s not broken). Then there’s the time me and my mom and dad were all having an argument that I forgot the purpose of, because I sorely remember him walking up quickly to me like he was gonna punch me. Hid from him for a whole week after. Then he got really toxic after I forgot his birthday. How fucking childish do you have to be to have beef with your 13 yea told son over that!? He got mad at me, and later said HE’D forgive ME if I apologized for forgetting his birthday. Slowly closed the door while giving him the evil eye. My mom yelled at me when I was ten, because I’ve been home schooled for nearly my entire life, and at around 9 or ten I decided tests were a waste of my time and energy and just speedrun them any percent. For high school I didn’t want to take an elective (they all were disinteresting) but my mom insisted I had to, so I took psychology. My grades tanked for multiple reasons, and I once complained I couldn’t get enough work done because of psychology. She said something along the lines of “but didn’t you want to take psychology?” My literal only thought was “are you fackin stchewpid!?” Later the same year I hadn’t even completed half of my high school work by summer, so instead of addressing the issue my mom made me work 4 times as hard over the course of this summer. This has achieved nothing for me or what I now suspect to be a case of undiagnosed ADHD or something.

Okay maybe my parents are abusive. I literally unironically googled “reasons to live” once
