And that's our season! If the audio's too rough on this one, full subtitles are, as ever, available! Thanks for watching, everyone.
Caption error at 4:43 !
No wonder y'all don't have a Lamborghini ; )
It's a little echoey, but still plenty listenable. A few minutes in and you don't notice anymore
As always, you're an absolute legend for putting full, good subtitles on all your videos!
Well, it wouldn't be the "Technical Difficulties" without some of them sometimes.
"people will notice bad audio before they notice bad video" - Matt grey
especially if they're blind and reading it in a book.
True, true
@@RAFMnBgaming he wouldn't call us readers otherwise
@@travdump209 But that's Garys thing
Poop joke to Shakespeare reference is exactly what he would have wanted!
That's what I thought!
Glad I'm not alone in having that very same thought!
If it's not occasionally crude then it's not Shakespeare
To be honest, this is exactly what real culture is!
But that is what Shakespeare did.
Maths-adjacent leisure, isn't that what Matt Parker does
Only when his sitting down. When he's standing up it's professional!
Given the Parker Square and the Parker Santa Protocol, it's definitely adjacent 😂
His is surely leisure that's firmly embedded in math and you can't get it out.
The guy in charge of Kitten Space Agency (KSP killer) is the spitting image of Parker.
Nah It's not Maths ajacent. It's fully within the subject of maths.
Matt's hereby awarded honorary Mystery Biscuits for his guess on mmm-hops
When the joke attempt was the answer it is always so satisfying.
Here here
That cheer for margaret thatcher would be a good out of context clip.
Ahahahha, you want to get them killed?
12:21 for anyone looking for the clip
@@wierdalien1As Matt said, "Don't worry, she's still dead."
Eh, respect where it's due, she's spotted Vladimir Putin back in 2000.
@@elkudos1 Broken clock can be right twice a day.
15:35 Matt says “gymnastics?” in the exact same tone of voice as Will Seaward saying “panthers?”
the only explanation is that the intonation is tied to the seat rather than the person. or that Matt and Will secretly are the same person
@@mnieh9869 Will did say that he had eaten Matt and stolen his powers, so presumably that is the cause behind this phenomenon.
@@rafaelmarkos4489 but we are looking at Matt. does that mean Will is a shapeshifter?
@@rafaelmarkos4489Will is a kirby, noted.
Matt has indeed eaten Will
Fun fact: the word that got adopted into french and became the basis for buccaneer was a Taino word and was later adopted into Spanish as Barbacoa and would eventually enter into English as Barbecue
wow i wonder if someone would make a video on that
Genuinely shocked we didn't get some sort of "what's another name for a fancy photographer? A bokehneer" in this episode
"What do you call someone that steals out of focus apertures at sea?"
Sightings of Thatcher dropped drastically since everyone started carrying around smartphone cameras.
Conclusion: Thatcher is Bigfoot.
It wouldn't be a Tech Dif series without a bad audio recording! But usually it happens the other way around. Things happen, we still love you guys!
THE WHEEL SPINS AND LANDS ON FRANCE!!!!!
IT'S NOT A WHEEL!! IT'S JUST A CARDBOARD WITH THE WORD "FRANCE" ON IT!!!
Again. The wheel is 50% France.
@@evilectric5109
Half of the Camembert is just France.
The Technical Difficulties experiences technical difficulties! It's come full circle.
Eyyyyyyy 😂😂😂
Honestly about time😂
Took em long enough!
That's how the name started!
They literally opened last season saying they'd bring back the Thatcher jokes if they ran out of material, so I dunno why that bit made me so happy, but it did
"Is Margeret Thatcher Banksy?" - Gary Brannan 2024
"What we learned here, folks, is that Princess Anne is indeed the Pope" - Tom Scott 2012
These people were clearly slightly too old to be raised on Pokémon. These are _Types._
Some guy named Tom Scott did a video on the etymology of buccaneer.
was just about to comment this! read the card and thought "oh, barbecue, like language files. but no way theyd cover that again" lo and behold
Oh, that guy. Probably totally wrong, then.
Yup story checks out indeed, it is that guy
the race from One Piece Manga?
Ooooh, that explains how they were so knowledgeable!
7:22 Tom Scott swearing on camera, that's rare
Nah, if you listen back to the early episodes it's really not that surprising
For whoever is doing subs : thank you so much for all the work you do, I've noticed a small mistake, at 4:42, the sub forgot the card's answer.
Tom is actually paying a professional service to do them (you see their "credit" at 17:22). I don't expect them to read the comments, their contract is probably completed when Tom accepts the subtitles. But maybe Tom himself can modify them now.
thanks, that's fixed --Matt
@@techdif I thought it was intentional
I'm glad the Audience won an episode. They've really been putting in the work so I'm glad to hear it paid off
Never would have expected a "Keeping Up Appearances" reference & jokes in this day and age.
And yet, it was very funny
I cheered at this. I was just thinking about this show the other day and how it's been ages since I've heard anyone mention it. Glad it's not forgotten
Neither did I, but I'm very happy about it!
I just love the shot at 11:00 where the card just flies skyward as though summoned by God like Prince's guitar at the end of While My Guitar Gently Weeps.
As a fluent English speaker born in Brazil, I understood about 10% of the references and questions in this video when I understood all of what this channel had before. Superb, sublime even.
With Matt saying he thinks the recording stopped working half way, and based on that bright line of sunlight moving, it must have been noticed right after the comma card but before bokeh.
Rats, the beer gag would’ve been a perfect Mystery Biscuits moment
Yes. The Mystery Biscuits should make a comeback!
Oh, yeah!
14:50 with that pause after “enjoy…” I imagined for a moment that what was going to follow would be “…getting shafted”, surprising that none of them pounced on the opportunity…
... On camera and made the cut
Hehe, pounced
14:34 correction: there’s a warhammer 40k ork warboss loosely named after her- Ghazghkull *Mag Uruk Thraka*
Oh my god how has that one slipped by me all these years
This is incorrect, and largely fanfiction
I mean. Weirder fan works have been enshrined in official Canons, @@antjesus5427. I think.
@@antjesus5427You say that, but Games Workshop does have individual people doing their thing.
Also Ghazkull's backstory is also ambiguously 'Ork version of Hitler's early career.'
Sails are just really big flags... Thank you Matt, that just made my day!
And since sails are white, that means that ships are always signaling their surrender.
He does tend to give comically loose descriptions 😂
Once he defined Suriname's location as "top right of bottom america" 😅
I love how Tom was the only one who caught Chris's joke, And they just shared an inside laugh on this side of the table.
France and Thatcher. Etymology, ornithology and archivist story, and recording technical difficulty. We are in for a treat for the last episode!
The butterfly is entomology, not ornithology, no? Unless I’m forgetting a bird-related aside in this episode.
@@dysr injured by a flock of magpies flying into you
I always thought magpies were a california exclusive bird but no apparently there's other species of magpies that are like cosmopolitan
16:54 the best part about that card throw is knowing Tom had no idea how wonderfully smooth it was until he was watching the footage back
8:16 "Got injured because of a flock of Magpies flew into their face, which I thought was a particularly creative injury." It's not that creative, it's just swooping season in Australia.
getting injured in Australia is cheating though
There is a Margaret Thatcher related fun fact. When vigorously debating with French president Jacques Chirac, at some point, during a break, Chirac was so pissed that he went something like "What does this shrew want more from me? My ballsacks on a plate?" while forgetting to turn his microphone off.
Whether it was translated to Margaret on the spot or not is debated.
7:14 to be fair, Shakespeare would probably have appreciated the poo jokes lol
2:10-20: I am disappointed that no one said it came from France.
12:20: Historic moments in English history: Finally, someone is happy to see Margaret Thatcher
As a Lancastrian, I refused to laugh after the first question! I'll show you! Oh... after the Thatcher gags you're all forgiven.
Also, please hurry back (even if it's with a different game.)
I absolutely love Chris Joel.
"Bouquet"
"Lady of the house speaking!"
Btw, their name was always actually Bucket, Hyacinth just pronounced it a bit fancy.
Hyacinth Bokeh would've been born later so she could get into anime and admire japanese culture. It would still be Bucket, but pronounced Bokeh, of course!
3:31 Made me think about BOOOXES OF KNIIIIIIIVES
Pre-nuclear knives!
That’s exactly what I thought too 😂😂
“You raise me up so I can make accurate meters!!!” 😂😂😂
12:49 Gary's joke about Margaret Thatcher escaping by submarine to South America made me cackle alone in my kitchen. Excellent work lads
Not 100% sure I got that one. I made the connection to some historic South American leaders (e.g., I believe, the Perons) having associations with the Axis Powers, and how I doubt anyone would be surprised if that applied to Thatcher, but I'm not sure if that's the intended reading of the joke.
6:45 ∴ is one of my favourite symbols and I wish I had an excuse to use it more often
it is indeed a nice symbol ∴ it deserves more widespread use
Agreed more people should use it - that's what it's there for
it never occured to me how echoy that room could've been. It's like we're experiencing the struggle right alongside you lot.
Can't wait for whatever's next!
16:54 how Tom so gracefully flings the card onto the set be hind him, top work sir
the IPA in the subtitles was unexpected but very welcome
Was it made by Hanson?

Merry (if all belated) Christmas gentlemen and gentlethem (from one enby to another Matt :D) , Thank you for this round. It's been a pleasure, once again.
Matt's enby? I didn't know that. Do you know when/where they said that?
@@axolirvin971 matt has social media pages listed in the description which say non-binary. I checked because of this comment
@@axolirvin971 I think it was the "Matt learns to skateboard" video where I learned it, I think Matt said it in the comments.
Love that Tom (rightfully) understands the importance of Stone Cold Steve Austin as one of the greatest pro writers ever. Man holds a spot on nearly every wrestling fan's Mt. Rushmore of pro wresters
0:54 how much do pirates pay for piercings
A buck an ear
I'd love to see "Two of these people are lying" return, was a great laugh to watch
To be fair, Shakespeare would _also_ be making poo jokes.
The wheel has spun! I repeat, the it's-all-France wheel has spun!
I became a fan of the Technical Difficulties various ideas a couple of years ago, I think around the time "two of these people are lying" wrapped up... So it's been lovely not only to catch "we all been on adventures", but yet another game show with all of you!
Thank you for the entertainment you put out for all of us, Matt, Tom, Gary and Chris! Hope to see more of y'all together in the future!
6:36 the Bristol stool chart as punctuation.
there was no particular reason to doubt it but it is great to have confirmation that the TechDiff have all seen House MD, hell yeah!
Great to see the wheel still spinning and still landing on France
Hyacinth Bokeh was a very funny joke
I cackled aloud at the maths-adjacent leisure bit I won't lie

…if ever we needed Mystery Biscuits back…
Something about the way Chris says "Is it bingo" scratches my brain just right, unsure why 😂 nice sound...
16:55 it landed right on the speaker!!
I thought that was a Pelican or suit case (for bringing all the kit, lights, microphones, etc).
@@AnthonyFuller It is
But still well spotted from OP
Actually the Japanese word "Bokeh" means "someone who is not paying attention", which got adapted to the lens "not paying attention to the surroundings"!
What do you call it when cherry pie is $1 in Nassau, peach pie is $1.50 in Jamaica, and apple pie is $2 in Tortuga?
The pie rates of the Caribbean!
Now what are the *corn* rates of the Caribbean?
A buccaneer.
Somehow for every catchy pun and joke, i want to press phantom Mystery Biscuit button on my desk.
*oh yeah*
I knew Matt was gonna accidentally get "mmmhops" right.
An excellent run. You're absolutely right - the audience were certainly the winners here!
this is deffo one of my comfort programmes
Barbecue is cooking with sticks over flames and originated in similar places to buccaneer so 2 are likely related, good for a pirate themed barbecue.
Decades ago I read in a children's book that barbeque comes from cooking wild goats whole on these bucans, just gutted and cooked beard-and-tail or berbe-et-queue. I don't know how valid that is, but it sounds likely.
The authors, Sam and Beryl Epstein were into writing small educational books for primary school children and might've parrotted some common misconceptions so I'm not married to that factoid.
Is someone who takes photographs on a boat in the Caribbean with interestingly shaped lens flares in the far field a bokehneer?
Tom loves throwing those cards, doesn't he :)
Thank you :) Happy New Year to you, and may the inspiration hit for the new season anytime you see fit to meet and film :)
Incredible that this episode releases the day I finish watching House
Tom looked so disturbed and ashamed when reading out the Thatcher card and that's so hilarious
Built for maths-adjacent leisure, not for maths-adjacent speed
This is my favorite signoff since Jean Claude Van Damm's Damned Clone-Jawed Van.
When is the next season!? I could listen to these all day.
That Scott Pilgrim anecdote redoubled my love for that film. I had no idea and that is one of the most amazing film facts I've heard.
The whole 6:14 - 7:26 part about punctuation and poo sent me into hysterics, I laughed like a damn hyena and was gasping for air for like five minutes 🤣🤣🤣 I'm going to have a six pack tomorrow from laughing so hard 😆
"Gymnastics?"

Fun fact about the department store thing.
In Australia, the section with bedding is called "Manchester".
As it is here in NZ as well. Seems to be a peculiarity of our region.

"Buccaneer" is used to refer to both privateers and pirates in the Caribbean.

I'm gonna watch this tonight because I'm still in the middle of christmas celebrations but I just wanted to thank you all: I just got ornitologist right in a trivia game!
