  • Hi and welcome back to the next video on the restoration of my Escort RS Turbo.
    In this video I will finishing off the rear wheel arch and getting it fully welding in using a technique that Dave over at Dave’s Garage demonstrated on his channel. Let’s hope I have as much success with this welding method as he had.
    Thanks to all my subscribers as we have managed to reach over 500 of you so thank you very much for becoming a subscriber to the channel and I hope you continue to enjoy the progress on the RS Turbo.

    Ah, thanks for the shout out 😊😊. You've done a cracking job of that, it's a scary thing to do, and the potential for messing things up is huge. But that looks as good as it gets, you'll always get distortion with welding, just a case of finding ways to minimise it.

      Thanks Dave, yes I was putting off welding the arch in as I was so worried about the distortion in the panel but after watching you do your bubble arches and the new technique my arch went on a dream. Keep up the good work Dave with the videos and projects.👍

    you could in theory just remove the btm of the front wing to give better access to the sill end then weld it back on after, if you're careful with the cut/weld position then the btm of the bodykit arch should cover it, great job 👍

      Hi thank you for the comment, I hadn’t of thought about just cutting the bottom of the wing off to gain access but I think that is the best way round repairing the front of the sill now as a few people have commented the same thing so I’m looking forward to getting stuck into the repair now.👍

    I cut the bottom of the wing off and welded the entire sill on, the sill forms the bottom of the A pillar, then replace the cut wing back in place.

      Great thanks for the info, I think that is the route I will take with repairing the front of the sill. 👍

      Thanks Sid, yes the new welder has made a massive difference. I didn’t think to just cut the bottom of the wing off but thanks, that’s a great idea and I will do the over sill repair that way. Thanks again Sid👍

    If you have a compressor blowing air on the weld wil reduce panel warp.

    Panel bond would have been the thing to use around the arch we use it for roof skins and other panels it's very very strong once bonded

    I noticed the RS still had rear hubs originally, have you got plans for those?

    • @ModernClassics81
      @ModernClassics81  11 місяців тому

      I’m planning on keeping the car as original as I can, but what are you thinking? Rear disc conversion?

      @@ModernClassics81 yes every time if you don’t mind a little restomod, (but to be honest it’s only because I like the look of them and not because I think it will improve braking). Are you keep fairly stock engine power?

    weld sum fat arches on it then fit it with sum 18"azev a`s..

    @finleyk Рік тому +1

    when stripping the edges of panels for welding, just buy a stripper disc for a drill, that arch would take you a minute to do instead of all by hand
